One more person held for abducting Kerala youth
Saurav, a native of Meppayur in Kozhikode, was abducted from an apartment in Kalamassery on April 30. He was held at multiple locations for two days, during which the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh and issued repeated death threats.
Last week, a team from Kalamassery police rescued Saurav and arrested Hashir, 21, of Perambra, who was part of the gang. Following Hashir's interrogation, the police received leads on other members of the gang. With assistance from the Kozhikode Rural police, Harris was nabbed from Kozhikode.

The legislation is part of a wider legislative push by the state govt, which introduced eight bills Tuesday alone. Over the past two days, 28 bills have been tabled in the Karnataka legislature. The govt also introduced two separate bills — Karnataka Municipalities and Certain Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2025 — enabling local bodies to employ empanelled professionals for construction-related approvals and inspections. Under the proposed amendments, architects, engineers, structural engineers, MEP consultants, environment consultants, and town planners empanelled by local authorities will be authorised to inspect building sites before, during, and after construction to certify compliance with approved plans and report to authorities. The professionals will also be empowered to sanction building plans for certain categories of buildings as notified by the govt. The govt also tabled the Karnataka Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025, paving the way for the administration to nominate its own representatives to all cooperative societies in the state. Under the amendment, the strength of cooperative society boards across sectors will increase from 13 to 15 members, with three nominated directly by the govt. Mysuru City police intensify anti-drug operations
Mysuru: Mysuru City police have intensified their anti-drug operations and identified 341 individuals who consumed ganja and were possessing ganja and MDMA. Interestingly, the majority of them are labourers, daily-wage earners, and some of them are students and dropouts. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) KS Sundar Raj said under the leadership of commissioner of police Seema Latkar, city police have been conducting drives every day since July 27 and raiding lodges, paying guesthouses, shops, and suspected places, including parks, to verify if anyone is involved in the illegal business of peddling narcotic substances, including ganja and ecstasy drugs. About 2,300 youths were picked up for tests to examine whether they were under the influence of drugs. Of them, 332 tested positive for the consumption of drugs. Cases were filed against them under the NDPS Act, as the consumption of banned substances is an offence. The majority of those who tested positive were labourers. A few were students, and many were dropouts and unemployed, the DCP stated. A few were booked for possessing ganja and MDMA, banned narcotics. Koppal man's murder: BJP demands NIA probe, Rs 50 lakh ex gratia
Bengaluru: BJP raised the murder of a Hindu man in Koppal in the legislative assembly Wednesday and demanded the investigation be handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) and that Rs 50 lakh compensation be given to the victim's family. A BJP delegation also met governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot and urged him to intervene and direct the state govt to transfer the case, alleging a deep-rooted conspiracy by "extremist" groups.
