Oilers' Connor McDavid predicted to follow Wayne Gretzky's footsteps in shocking trade idea
Everyone wants to know what Connor McDavid is going to do.
The Edmonton Oilers superstar is entering the final season of his contract. Whether with Edmonton or elsewhere, he's expected to set a new NHL record with the annual value of his impending new deal.
But there are a lot of questions. Will McDavid stick with the Oilers? Will he go for an eight-year deal or shorter? Just how much will it cost?
One NHL analyst, Dan Powers of the Empty Netters podcast, suggested that the Oilers could actually trade McDavid before he gets to free agency.
That'd be valuable for the acquiring team to get McDavid ahead of time and have exclusive negotiating rights with him (along with having him down the stretch of the 2025-26 season.
Powers' suggested destination will make Oilers fans cringe: the Los Angeles Kings.

Yes, the same team that took Wayne Gretzky away from Edmonton.
'I have said so many times — and this is not because we live in LA. — if we saw the King's Ransom Part 2 and he got traded to LA, it would be the greatest thing to happen to the NHL in 50 years. It would be the greatest story of all time,' Powers said.
Gretzky spent nine years with the Oilers before moving on to Hollywood. McDavid has already been in Edmonton for 10 seasons.
The Great One, of course, had already won four Stanley Cups with the Oilers by the time he left. McDavid is still seeking his first.
The Kings haven't been one of the popularly rumored destinations for McDavid (Toronto leads that list).
But it'd certainly be quite the historical hockey serendipity if McDavid ended up in Los Angeles, too.

Comcast debuts soccer-focused video package ahead of World Cup
(Reuters) -Internet and media giant Comcast launched a soccer-focused video package exclusively for its Xfinity customers on Wednesday, as it looks to attract sports fans ahead of major events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Comcast has priced the offering, called "World Soccer Ticket", at $85 a month. The bundle includes nearly 60 broadcast, cable news, and sports channels, along with a premium subscription of NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service.
