People in a frenzy over car crash - look closer and you'll see why they say it's the 'wurst' accident ever
The crash, which occurred around 9:13 a.m. on Friday just south of Exit 8 in Shrewsbury Township, involved at least one tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, according to the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company.
Four people were injured and transported to York Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known, however their injuries are non-life threatening, according to state police.
The truck, reportedly hauling more than 1,000 pounds of frozen hot dogs, split open when it scraped along a concrete barrier, spilling its meaty contents across both directions of the highway.
'We heard a loud bang, and then we heard about three more loud bangs,' a nearby business owner told WGAL.
'We knew it was a tire first, blowout here on 83. But then after that, we knew there was some other type of accident because it went on for a minute or two.'
The crash scene quickly became a traffic nightmare - and a spectacle.

A viewer video shared with WGAL showed vehicles carefully navigating around and over smashed hot dogs as cleanup crews tried to clear the mess.
'We just got a whole truckload of hot dogs,' one person can be heard saying in the clip.
State police said the tractor-trailer suffered a mechanical failure before slamming into a passenger car and the concrete median. The impact tore open the trailer, unleashing its porky payload.
'Once those leave the truck and hit the road, that's all garbage, and it's still pretty warm,' Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman told NBC News.
'I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery - I did not know that.'
Cleanup crews, armed with front-end loaders and dump trucks, worked for hours to clear the road.
Twelve barriers were also damaged in the crash and are being assessed by PennDOT, WGAL reported.
Photos shared by the fire company showed responders in high-visibility gear walking past scattered hot dogs, broken boxes, and a mangled trailer.
As one witness put it: 'This wasn't just a traffic jam — it was a meat meltdown.'
Social media users have since chimed in on the meat-ridden crash, cracking jokes and shedding humor on the otherwise grim afternoon.
'And the driver asked the trooper whose fault it was. The Trooper said: 'I'm going to be frank with you,' one user wrote on Facebook.
'Driver was just trying to ketchup,' another quipped.
'Looks like I-83 got a good weinering….' another joked.
Another wrote, 'Dog on it, there goes my cookout!'
While another chimed in: 'Authorities say dozens of wieners went rogue, and the buns couldn't ketch-up. It was the wurst.'
Another suggested a clever way to straighten out the mess. 'Bring in the dogs from the local shelter, cleanup complete in 30 minutes. You're welcome.'
Following the collision, a section of I-83 was shut down in both directions in the areas surrounding the accident. One northbound and one southbound lane later reopened, but traffic remained severely backed up into the afternoon.
'This was definitely one of the more unique scenes we've responded to,' Dauberman said. He added that his daughter texted him a photo of a hot dog-themed T-shirt as the incident unfolded.

F1 team forced to release statement after star rushed to medical centre after suffering horror crash in modified car
ALPINE have issued a statement after driver Franco Colapinto was involved in a crash during testing. Images appeared to show that Colapinto had collided with barriers at Hungaroring during Pirelli tyre testing. 3 3 Alpine is one of a number of Formula One teams that are currently testing for the 2026 campaign during the F1 summer break. Teams have reportedly used modified cars to help Pirelli simulate the loads that the 2026 regulations are due to generate in the short summer break before the 2025 schedule continues in the Netherlands at the end of the month. 2026 tyres are set to be 25mm narrower at the front and 30mm narrower at the rear. Colapinto, Lando Norris, Liam Lawson and Paul Aron are some of the names that have been testing this week. But things went awry for Colapinto when he crashed on turn 11 during a lap around Hungaroring. A team statement from Alpine said: "Team Update. During Day 2 of Pirelli Tyre Testing at the Hungaroring this morning, Franco Colapinto had an incident at Turn 11. "Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK." It comes after a frustrating outing for Colapinto at last week's Hungary Grand Prix. The 22-year-old Argentine finished in 18th place, one place in front of teammate Pierre Gasly. Colapinto is in his first year with Alpine after replacing Jack Doohan behind the wheel. Toto Wolff defends F1 driver Lewis Hamilton after 'useless' comments The former Williams driver is yet to score a point since replacing Doohan. Colapinto reported OK after crashing in F1 tyre test
Aug 6 (Reuters) - Argentine racer Franco Colapinto crashed in Formula One tyre testing at the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday and was reported unhurt after being taken to the medical centre, his Alpine team said. Renault-owned Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren and Racing Bulls are taking part in the two-day Pirelli test at the Hungaroring that followed on from last weekend's grand prix, the last before the sport's August break. Alpine said in a statement that Colapinto, who took over from reserve driver Paul Aron for the final day, had "an incident" at turn 11, a right-handed curve that can be taken at 220kph. "Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK," they added. The team gave no details about how the crash happened or damage to the car. Colapinto, 22, replaced Australian Jack Doohan at Alpine after the first six races but has yet to finish higher than 13th for the team in seven starts. He did not start in Britain, after crashing in qualifying and then suffering a gearbox issue, and there has been speculation he could also be replaced before the end of the season. Teammate Pierre Gasly has scored all of last-placed Alpine's 20 points, with three scoring finishes in his last six races. Colapinto told reporters last week that he was lacking confidence in the car and struggling to turn into the corners in the way he would like. "I didn't have this issue last year (in nine races for Williams), I could go straight in and be quick straight away. Now I'm struggling a bit more with that," he said. "Generally the car is a bit tricky on entries and that's what we are working on, on my side."
