EGYPTAIR Expands Fleet with Order for Six Additional Airbus A350-900 Aircraft
EGYPTAIR has announced a firm order for six more Airbus A350-900 aircraft during the Paris Air Show 2025, reinforcing its strategy to modernize its long-haul fleet and meet rising global travel demand. This new order brings the airline's total A350-900 commitment to 16 aircraft.
Captain Ahmed Adel, Chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR, said the move aligns with the carrier's growth plans and sustainability objectives:
'We are continuously working to modernise our fleet and deliver a more comfortable and optimised travel experience. This collaboration with Airbus builds on a long-standing relationship that spans decades. The A350 will support our network expansion over the next five years and contribute to Egypt's broader efforts to promote more sustainable air transport.'
The A350-900, part of Airbus' newest widebody family, is renowned for its fuel efficiency and range. It can fly up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 km) non-stop while consuming 25% less fuel compared to previous-generation aircraft, translating to significantly lower CO₂ emissions. Each aircraft will feature Airbus' next-generation Airspace cabin with wide seats, high ceilings, and soothing ambient lighting designed for passenger comfort on long-haul journeys.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales at Airbus, welcomed the deepening relationship:
'This is the second time EGYPTAIR has placed an order for the A350, and it reflects the value and confidence the airline places in the aircraft. We look forward to supporting EGYPTAIR's success, growth, and decarbonisation ambitions.'
The A350 is currently the most advanced widebody aircraft in production. It is certified to fly with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, and Airbus aims to make its entire fleet 100% SAF-compatible by 2030. As of May 2025, Airbus has received over 1,390 orders for the A350 family from 60 customers worldwide.
This strategic move places EGYPTAIR among leading global carriers investing in next-generation aircraft to offer passengers a superior travel experience while advancing environmental sustainability.

Kuwait Airways Faces Challenges Waits for Airbus Delivery
Kuwait Airways' plans of growing passenger numbers to 5.5 million in 2025 from more than 4 million last year faces difficulties due to delayed aircraft deliveries and geopolitical pressure in the region. Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) Chairperson Abdulmohsen Al-Fagaan said on Monday that the airline is scheduled to receive a new plane, an Airbus-321, at the end of August and AN A-330-900 aircraft by the end of the year, but that is far short of the nine aircraft it has been waiting to receive from Airbus. Reuters reported that Kuwait Airways has 27 jets now, and expects to reach 30 by the end of 2025, with the rest due in 2027. Al-Fagaan said the airlines' plans had been based on having 33 aircraft in 2024, whereas at one point it had just 23, having also had to return leased planes. That, Al-Fagaan said, would affect the company's plan to grow. The airline did not disclose 2024's profit during a press conference following the airline's annual general meeting. Al-Fagaan said political challenges disrupting the region's aviation industry and other issues related to some countries it serves, would also delay the carrier's 2025 break-even target. Al-Fagaan added that the board is seeking to develop KAC's operations further and said it would offer top services and present innovative solutions to meet the clients' demands. Lufthansa to Relaunch Riyadh–Munich Route
Lufthansa is set to expand its presence in Saudi Arabia by around 50 per cent with the relaunch of its non-stop Riyadh–Munich service from October 27, 2025. The route, last operated in 2017, will connect the Saudi capital directly to the airline's five-star Skytrax-rated Munich hub, enhancing links to Lufthansa's global network. Operating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Flight LH641 will depart Riyadh at 6.25 am, arriving in Munich at 10.25 am — offering ideal onward connections to more than 130 destinations across Europe, America, and Asia. The return service will operate on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, departing Munich at 9.45 pm and arriving in Riyadh at 4.50am the following morning. The service will be operated by the Airbus A350-900, seating 293 passengers across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. Economy return fares will start at SR1,495 ($399). This new connection complements Lufthansa's daily Riyadh–Frankfurt service and boosts total Lufthansa Group flights to Saudi Arabia to 25 per week, including operations by ITA Airways and Eurowings. Across the Middle East, the Lufthansa Group now serves the region more than 120 times weekly. Sadiq Mohamed, General Manager Sales Saudi Arabia at Lufthansa Group Airlines, said: 'Munich is one of the most popular destinations in Western Europe for many of our customers. The airport itself is a relaxing, convenient, and beautiful gateway, whether travellers are connecting onward or visiting the city and its stunning surrounding region, known for its castles and picturesque lakes near the Alps.' The renewed route comes as demand for Riyadh flights grows, supported by Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda, major global events such as Expo 2030 and the FIFA Men's World Cup 2034, and the city's ongoing economic transformation.
