CAIRO — Deputy Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed Al-Khereiji emphasized that peace remains the strategic choice for the Middle East. 'Ensuring regional security requires an urgent, just, and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,' he said. Al-Khereiji made the remarks in his speech, delivered on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan, at the 163rd ministerial level session of the Arab League Council in Cairo on Wednesday.
The deputy minister reaffirmed the Kingdom's unwavering support for the Palestinian people, highlighting the importance of maintaining and implementing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He called for Israel to be held accountable to international law and to cease its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people. Al-Khereiji also reiterated the Kingdom's categorical rejection of any calls for the forced displacement of Palestinians or any attempts to impose solutions that fail to fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to determine their own future.
The deputy minister noted the Kingdom's continued engagement with partners and countries through the International Coalition to Implement the Two-State Solution, aiming to advance the peace process. He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to Arab unity, emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination among Arab states at all levels to confront common challenges, unify positions, and achieve regional security, stability, and prosperity.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Abdulaziz Al-Matar.

In a cable sent to the Crown Prince, Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated on the successful Hajj season of 2025. The Emir praised the ongoing expansion works at the Grand Mosque and the development of modern smart services across the holy sites, which meet pilgrims' needs and facilitate the performance of rituals.

Israel's defense minister vows to prevent aid boat carrying Greta Thunberg reaching Gaza
JERUSALEM — Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Sunday that Israel wouldn't allow anyone to break its naval blockade of the Palestinian territory, which he said was aimed at preventing Hamas from importing arms. In a post on X Katz announced that he has instructed the Israeli Defense Force "to act to prevent the Madleen hate flotilla" from reaching the strip's coast: "You should turn back -- because you will not reach Gaza." Thunberg is among 12 activists aboard the Madleen, which is operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The vessel departed Sicily last Sunday on a mission that aims to break the sea blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, while raising awareness over the growing humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave. The activists had said they planned to reach Gaza's territorial waters as early as Sunday. Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament who is of Palestinian descent, is among the others onboard. She has been barred from entering Israel because of her opposition to Israeli policies toward the Palestinians. Also on board is "Game of Thrones" star Liam Cunningham. After a three-month total blockade aimed at pressuring Hamas, Israel started allowing some basic aid into Gaza last month, but humanitarian workers have warned of famine unless the blockade and the war end. An attempt last month by Freedom Flotilla to reach Gaza by sea failed after another of the group's vessels was attacked by two drones while sailing in international waters off Malta.
