Gogglebox's Daniel Lustig-Webb reveals life changing health diagnosis for the first time

The Sun2 days ago

GOGGLEBOX'S Daniel Lustig-Webb has revealed a life changing health diagnosis for the first time.
Daniel, 50, known for his five-year run on the Channel 4 show, has told fans that he's been completely deaf in one ear since childhood.
5
The TV personality said his hearing loss is a result of mumps he contracted in his youth, which caused an infection that left him with permanent hearing loss in one ear.
He explained that for years he kept it a secret due to insecurity and fear of being seen as 'different' or less capable.
Daniel said: 'I've been half deaf since I was a child. I got mumps when I was younger, which caused an infection in my ear, and that left me with complete and permanent hearing loss in one ear.
"For years, I hid it. I didn't want people to see me as 'different' or less capable.
"At school, it was tough, I was often picked on and teachers told me I was 'thick' because I struggled to concentrate, not realising it was because I couldn't hear properly.
"It made me really insecure. I thought I was just failing.'
Daniel described the social challenges caused by his deafness, explaining: 'Going out with friends, trying to join in conversations at parties, it's exhausting.
"You end up guessing what people say or pretending you hear it all. I'd mimic the conversation, hoping no one noticed. But it takes a toll. I've had to learn to listen differently, and sometimes I just switch off.'
Following his 50th birthday, Daniel decided to embrace his diagnosis as part of a new chapter in his life.
After leaving Gogglebox in 2023 and going through a divorce with OG star Stephen, he has focused on fitness, wellbeing, and self-acceptance.
Gogglebox fans go wild as Stephen Lustig-Webb and his ex Daniel reunite just weeks after their shock split
Daniel said: 'I feel ready to be open about it. At 50, I feel like it's finally time to stop hiding and to be proud of who I am.
"I'm planning to begin learning sign language because I want to connect with the deaf community and support others who might be struggling like I did. Deafness isn't a weakness, it's part of me.'
Hearing loss affects nearly 11 million people in the UK, approximately one in six adults.
Daniel hopes his openness will help break down the stigma surrounding deafness.
He said: 'I want to help break down the myths around deafness. It's not just about the sounds you can't hear, it's about the isolation, the frustration, the way it shapes your world.

"I've seen how people dismiss deafness because it's 'invisible'. But it's real. It's part of millions of lives. And it should be talked about openly, without shame.'
Back in October, Daniel revealed he was back dating again since his marriage split – but admitted there's one thing a new partner will have to 'tolerate.'
Daniel told The Sun: 'I was dating someone - if you can even call it that – we went on four dates in London, and it was really fun.
'But that was literally the first guy I dated since the split, so it was a bit of a learning curve.
'We were very similar in age though, we had a lot in common, it was very nice and we had a lot of fun.'
But Daniel confessed things between the two of them 'dried up' romantically.
The TV star, who said he'd be more than keen to give Celebs Go Dating a go, said people haven't really clocked on to his Gogglebox fame.
Asked if he was worried people would swipe right because they'd seen him on the show, Daniel shared: 'The people I have chatted to or met haven't mentioned it on the first or second date, and if they sort of slip it in, I think 'Oh, that's quite cool.' You know what I mean. I don't want dating to be like an interview.'
And the single star said he was trying his hardest not to be picky on his dating quest, sometimes unsuccessfully.
Daniel added: 'I've been quite open, actually, because in the past I'd be like 'they must be this age, 'they must look like this. But now my age bracket is more open than it used to be. So that's interesting.
'To be honest, I'm not too picky but then when I meet them I can really be picky.
Deafness
What is deafness?
Deafness is a partial or complete loss of the ability to hear. It can affect one or both ears.
Causes:
Common causes include aging, exposure to loud noise, infections, genetics, or injury.
Types:
Conductive: Problem with outer or middle ear.
Sensorineural: Damage to inner ear or nerve pathways.
Mixed: Combination of both.
Signs to watch for:
Difficulty following conversations, asking others to repeat, turning up volume loud.
Treatment options:
Hearing aids, cochlear implants, surgery, or therapy — depending on the cause and severity.
Did you know?
Over 11 million people in the UK suffer some form of hearing loss.
Quick tip:
Protect your ears from loud noise — use earplugs at concerts and keep volume low on headphones.
'I also don't like all the texting on the apps, I don't want a pen friend!'
And the show favourite shared that anyone he dates will also have to accept that he and ex Stephen are still good friends.
Daniel playfully added: 'It's something people will just have to put up with. We're business partners and also dog daddy's as we share a dog together.
'When I met Stephen I was still pals with my ex, and he took that on the chin.
'You don't have to be really good friends with these people but you have to respect it. It's some Louis Vuitton baggage!'
Daniel doesn't want to 'live on the apps' when it comes to meeting someone knew, instead saying he prefers a more traditional way of going about things.
'I'd like to meet someone out, strolling along the beach with my dog or in a bar, like how it used to be.
'If a friend set me up on a date I'd have to put the parameters out there, and if they got it wrong I'd probably never speak to my friend again!'
Despite Daniel's hunt for romance, the star has been busy juggling owning two hair salon businesses, alongside a life in the spotlight as a TV personality.
He's recently appeared on The Weakest Link, and shares his desire to one day take to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor, but 'doesn't feel famous at all.'
Daniel added: 'If we're not filming anything or doing anything like life is just the same as everyone elses.
'I'm going out on the beach picking up the dog poo in the rain. I've got to run to get in my car quickly to get to work so I'm not late, you know, living the same life as everyone else.'
And on a Gogglebox return? Well, Daniel said 'never say never.'

Love Island star sparks concern with his appearance after shock betrayal – did you spot it?

A LOVE Islander sparked concern among fans with his appearance after his shock villa betrayal. Harry rattled fans of the ITV2 dating series after his controversial antics in the Love Island villa less than three days into the series. 3 But it seemed that he could have rattled himself after fans were left convinced he'd been crying after his bed-swapping antics were exposed. In the episode, Harry could be seen cuddled up with Shakira in bed but soon attempted to sneak away as he headed to the Hideaway with Helena. They then got very cosy as they kissed and cuddled the night away - with some fans even convinced they had sex. But when Harry was forced to speak to Sharkia about his antics, many fans thought he appeared as though he had been left in tears. Whilst he kept his eyed hidden by sunglasses during the chat whilst in the garden, when he was in the beach hut, he appeared to be sporting very red eyes. It was a stark resemblance to someone who could have just been crying. Writing online, one fan said: "Harry looks like he's been crying lol. I'd be crying if I lost Shakira too." A third added: "Why's Harry crying?" As a fourth wrote: "Harry looks like he's been crying lol. I'd be crying if I lost Shakira too." Watch the moment Love Island stars strip off and jump into bed after ditching their partners for the Hideaway In shock scenes tonight blonde air hostess Helena Ford, 29, and semi-pro footballer Harry Cooksley, 30, snuck off for some alone time - leaving their partners reeling. The duo were seen planning their rendezvous earlier in the evening and Harry is seen telling Helena to tap his foot on the way out of the bedroom. A source previously told The Sun: 'This is the fastest sleepover in the Hideaway in Love Island's twelve series history - and what a gorgeous pair to do so. 'In the past, producers had to invite Islanders to use the breakout bedroom which meant the love nest was generally not used until couples became more established. 'But producers have changed the rules of the breakout bedroom so it can be used at any time, without an invite. 'It means Helena and Harry could take advantage of the 'no invite needed' and explore their connection. 'The scenes will play out later this week, but bosses are unlikely to show anything too naughty, as is the show's usual approach.' 3

Warhammer maker Games Workshop to reward staff with £20MILLION payout

Games Workshop is handing its employees £20million following another bumper year for the beloved tabletop games maker. The Warhammer creator, which has struck a deal to have its creations star in potential TV and film blockbusters for Amazon, said the cash payments would be given on 'an equal basis' to every staff member. Games Workshop's shares have soared in recent years and it joined the UK's leading FTSE 100 stock market index for the first time last December. The £20million payout represents an increase on the £18million awarded last year and £11million the year before that. It comes as Games Workshop forecast sales to soar to at least £560million for the year ending 1 June, up from £494.7million in the previous 12 months. British actor and Superman star Henry Cavill, a self-declared lifelong fan of the figures, will star in and produce a Warhammer 40,000 series with Amazon Prime and Games Workshop. Last December, Cavill posted on Instagram: 'To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey! 'My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. 'Together, we've been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. 'Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret.' Games Workshop said today that it expects to achieve record licensing sales of about £50million, although the company does not envision repeating that figure in the next financial year. Alongside this, the business believes its core operating profits and pre-tax profits will total no less than £210million and £255million, respectively. Two months ago, Games Workshop upgraded its earnings forecast thanks to strong trading across licensing and its core operations. This followed the firm's best-ever first-half result, with sales buoyed by record retail sales in the UK, North America and Continental Europe. Revenues were further boosted by the release of video game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which sold two million copies on the opening day of its launch and five million by the end of November. During the half-year period, Games Workshop agreed 'creative guidelines' with Amazon to adapt Warhammer 40,000 into films and television shows. In addition, the company entered the blue-chip FTSE 100 after enjoying nearly a decade of consistent growth under its chief executive, Kevin Rountree. During his tenure, Games Workshop has improved its relationship with fans and introduced games with more simplified rules, including Blood Bowl, a parody of American football. Its revenues benefited considerably from the Covid-19 pandemic, when consumers sought new indoor hobbies to occupy their time. Although lockdown curbs eventually ended, the firm's trade has continued expanding, and its market value now stands at almost £5billion. Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, said: 'Games Workshop has a rock-solid core business, underpinned by an army of fans emerged in its fantasy worlds who collect miniature figures and play its board games. 'This success has enabled the company to build a rich library of intellectual property that is now the platform for additional revenue generation. 'Licencing the rights to certain brands and characters is easy money, but Games Workshop is fiercely protective of its assets and won't let anyone come along and milk them.' Despite the optimistic forecasts, Games Workshop shares were 4.5 per cent lower at 15,150p on Friday morning, making them the Footsie's biggest faller.

Love Island fans convinced pair had SEX just three days into show as they sneak to hideaway

LOVE Island fans are convinced Harry and Helena had sex just three days into the show. The Sun revealed this week that air hostess Helena, 29, and semi-pro footballer Harry, 30, spent the night together in the hidden suite on Monday. 4 4 And on tonight's show, the pair sneaked away to the Hideaway for some alone time and enjoyed multiple kisses. They struggled to keep their hands off each other and Harry then pulled the covers over their heads. The following morning, Harry and Helena told the rest of the Islanders that they just had a kiss and a cuddle. But viewers watching at home think the pair got up to a lot more than that. One wrote: "Having sex on international tv on day three???" The Sun have reached out to ITV for comment. On last night's show, Shakira, who is coupled up with Harry, visited the Hideaway with Blu, who is with Alima. Watch the awkward moment Love Island stars sneak out of the bedroom for steamy night in the Hideaway - leaving partners fuming The pair shocked fans as they shared a kiss just minutes into entering the cosy private area. Tonight Harry found out about their snog from fellow Islander Dejon, leaving him gobsmacked. Harry then suggested to Helena that they sneak off to the Hideaway in the middle of the night. But they were rumbled after their fellow Islanders spotted them running out of the bedroom together. A source said: 'This is the fastest sleepover in the Hideaway in Love Island's twelve series history - and what a gorgeous pair to do so. 'In the past, producers had to invite Islanders to use the breakout bedroom which meant the love nest was generally not used until couples became more established. 'It means Helena and Harry could take advantage of the 'no invite needed' and explore their connection. 'The scenes will play out later this week, but bosses are unlikely to show anything too naughty, as is the show's usual approach.' Helena, who is pals with Piers Morgan's son Spencer and Gary Lineker's son George on the outside, had fans in stitches on Monday night's launch when she described her type as a 'four out of ten that is funny.' Harry, who is a commodities trader, has been described as The Surrey Zidane by fans of his team, Farnham Town. He's scored with Helena after his original coupling, Sophie Lee left the villa as part of a show twist. 4
