2025 College Football Odds: Back Longhorns To Eclipse Win Total
After back-to-back playoff appearances, including two wins and a semifinal berth last season, the Texas Longhorns look to finally win the championship in 2025.
Texas, just like its friends in the upper tier of the sport, does not lose games that it should win. The Horns were 11-1 with a loss to Georgia in the 2024 regular season. Then they went 11-1 in 2023 with a loss to 6-0 Oklahoma on the final play of the game.
That's it — two regular-season losses in the last two seasons.
Now, after two years of hype and 90 passing attempts last season, Texas turns to Arch Manning as the starter. He's shown elite physical abilities, so the hype is warranted — but being a first-time starter does come with some bumps and bruises.
The Texas offensive line was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award last year, but that unit still had moments where it wasn't as clean as expected. It now has to replace four starters, but waiting are all the top-tier recruits and portal players.
Texas continues to lose receivers to the draft and Steve Sarkisian has replacements waiting on the roster there, too. The Longhorns run game has been something they can lean on. The offense is loaded with unproven talent, but Sark's track record, plus the talent of Manning, should get them humming quickly.
On the defensive side, Texas sent five guys to the NFL, but just like the offense, that side of the ball is retooling with the highest level of talent.
Linebacker Anthony Hill will be the anchor of the defense, with freshman All-American Colin Simmons as the lead pass rusher.
Texas went to the portal for defensive linemen and the secondary. The Longhorns have a track record of being able to develop on that side of the ball and I trust Pete Kwiatkowski and staff to have this defense playing at an elite level again this season.
If we look at the Texas schedule with the assumption that upsets are rare, the squad has two games right now that are toss-ups.
Texas opens the season at Ohio State and then plays Georgia in the middle of November on the road. Ohio State must replace so much production on both lines and at quarterback, so catching them to start the season could favor Texas here.
I do worry about the Longhorns' ability to win at Georgia after going 0-2 against the Bulldogs last season. So if they split these games, Texas is closer to winning 11 games than nine. A split would allow for an upset and the Longhorns still going Over 9.5 wins.
Games against Florida and Texas A&M will be difficult, but Florida has questions at quarterback at the moment and I don't think A&M is good enough to win at Texas right now.
If given a choice between the Over or Under on the Texas season, I lean toward the Over.

Notre Dame had its second fall practice and here are some clips shared on social media
There wasn't much shared early on Friday of Notre Dame football's second practice of the fall, but we did get to see an impressive clip of running back Jeremiyah Love looking very shifty going through a speed drill. Luckily, as the day went by, more short videos were shared on social media, some of them featuring your favorite Irish players. While the media members who shared them didn't get to see all of the action, they got enough to wet our whistle for Notre Dame football. Below you'll see a focus on the quarterbacks, more drill work, and a multiple true freshman that could turn some heads. The competition we are all paying attention to, the quarterbacks There isn't another more important fall competition than at quarterback, and it very much seems like Notre Dame's social media team knows that as well. Kenny Minchey got the rep from the full team scrimmage in the clip, and threw a very pretty ball to KK Smith, albeit with the second-team. The No. 10 that you see in the bottom right corner of the first set, yeah, that Tyler Buchner. He's shown he's the epitome of a team player for Notre Dame, as his experience will help the younger players get acclimated to this level. Buchner isn't in consideration for the starting job, but you'll see him on special teams and maybe a trick play or two. The freshman corners If you are good enough to see the field as a true freshman, head coach Marcus Freeman won't be afraid to put you on the field. We have seen many young Irish players getting plenty of early run in their careers, and both Dallas Golden and Mark Zackery could join that group. Last year, we saw Leonard Moore shine as a first-year player, and there are plenty of opportunities to make a mark in Notre Dame's secondary. Jaden Greathouse has another level Greathouse used the College Football Playoff to showcase that he could be an elite talent, but he may just be scratching his surface of what he can be. So far, it's been consistency holding him back, and after getting a taste of top-end success, it may have motivated Greathouse to take it to the next level. If he has added some speed to his already impressive skill set, he could end up being the No. 1 wide receiver the Irish have been looking for. The running back room is even deeper James was one of the last 2025 signees to make his commitment to Notre Dame, but he was worth the effort to flip him from Boston College. Although not highly ranked, he sure looks the part of a future difference maker at running back. It might be a little while before we see him on the field though, as Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price and Aneyas Willams most likely won't be jumped on the depth chart. James is the future at the position, and still could get some carries later in blowouts, without burning a redshirt year. Trade talks between Astros and Marlins for Sandy Alcantara heat up
The Houston Astros are believed to be pursuing multiple positions this MLB trade deadline to help bolster their lineup. They look like a strong World Series candidate as they lead the AL West with a 62-47 record. Reports have said that Houston is looking to add a left-handed bat for their right-handed-heavy lineup, as well as a starting pitcher, before Thursday's deadline. Teams are running out of time to make moves, and it's been reported that the Astros have reached out to the Miami Marlins for their former Cy Young Award-winning pitcher. Astros writer Michael Schwab took to X on Wednesday night, saying, "The Astros are in talks with Miami about trading for starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara, per people familiar with the matter. Nothing is imminent, but both sides are serious and interested." Alcantara, 29, has been seeing his name floated around in trade rumors for multiple months leading up to the trade deadline. The Marlins starter was the unanimous NL Cy Young Award winner in 2022 after finishing the season with a 14-9 record, 2.28 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP in 32 starts. The following year, Alcantara came down with a torn UCL and underwent Tommy John surgery. He missed the entire 2024 season and has struggled to find the same success. In 2025, Alcantara started 21 games for the Marlins, totaling a 6-9 record, 6.36 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 109 innings. If Houston can put together a deal to land Alcantara, they would also bring in his expensive contract, which has him getting paid $34.6 million through the 2026 season. His contract has a club option linked to it for the 2027 season.
