US, India Launch Advanced Satellite to Track Earth's Surface Changes
The United States and India have successfully
launched
the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite, an advanced Earth observation mission designed to monitor even the most subtle changes on the planet's surface.
Lifted off at 12:10 GMT from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on India's southeastern coast, the $1.3 billion mission aims to revolutionize our understanding of natural and human-induced disasters.
This sophisticated satellite, now orbiting Earth's poles at an altitude of 747 kilometers (464 miles), will gather critical data on events such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, glacial melting, and volcanic activity.
Developed jointly by NASA and the
India
n Space Research Organization (ISRO), NISAR is the world's first radar imaging satellite to operate using dual-frequency radar. NASA provided the L-band radar system, while ISRO contributed the S-band radar and the satellite's structural components. Together, these instruments enable continuous, all-weather monitoring of Earth's surface, capturing shifts as minor as one centimeter every 12 days.
Though not designed to forecast seismic events, NISAR will significantly enhance the scientific community's ability to identify regions vulnerable to major earthquakes. According to NASA geoscience lead Mark Simons, the satellite will help pinpoint areas with high tectonic stress by observing subtle ground deformations over time.
NASA Earth Science Director Karen St. Germain hailed NISAR as the most sophisticated radar instrument ever constructed. She noted its ability to detect land subsidence, glacial melt in Greenland and Antarctica, deformation from volcanic activity, and even the spread of wildfires, regardless of weather or light conditions.
The satellite beams radar signals to Earth and captures their reflections using a large antenna reflector. These measurements, when compared across multiple satellite passes, enable precise tracking of environmental changes on a global scale.

SpaceX Delivers New Crew to ISS
Israa Farhan SpaceX has successfully transported a new four-member crew to the International Space Station (ISS) after a 15-hour journey from Florida. The Crew-11 mission, part of NASA's routine rotation program, includes two American astronauts, one Russian, and one Japanese. Their arrival raises the number of astronauts aboard the station to eleven. Launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the team will remain on the ISS for at least six months, replacing the current crew scheduled to return to Earth next week. During their mission, the astronauts will simulate lunar landing scenarios for NASA's Artemis program and study how microgravity affects spacecraft control and crop growth. The scientific cargo includes Armenian pomegranates for agricultural experiments. The ISS, operational since 2000, continues to serve as a key hub for international space research. Despite global tensions, the US and Russia maintain cooperation on the station. Roscosmos and NASA recently held their first high-level meeting since 2018 to discuss extending ISS operations through 2030. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, remains a vital player in American space exploration, regularly launching missions to support NASA's goals and international space collaboration. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Everything you need to know about Saturday's total solar eclipse in Egypt
NASA's astronomical records show that a total solar eclipse is scheduled to occur on Saturday. The moon's shadow will pass over parts of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East tomorrow, creating a rare celestial phenomenon not seen in decades, according to the Times of India. This total solar eclipse is called the 'eclipse of the century' because it will witness the longest period of darkness on Earth in the 21st century. The eclipse will last for six minutes and 22 seconds, the longest since 1991. Will the solar eclipse be visible in Egypt? The solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path about 258 kilometers (160 miles) wide, covering an area of 15,227 kilometers (9,462 miles) of Earth's surface. The eclipse will pass over parts of 11 countries, including Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia. Despite its significance, this event will only affect a small portion of the planet. Those within this path will experience the darkening of the sky during daylight, although experts indicate that it will appear more like a 360-degree twilight. A partial solar eclipse will also be visible across most of Africa, Europe, and South Asia. North America and other parts of the world will not experience any eclipse activity. What is a total solar eclipse? A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves directly between the sun and Earth, completely covering it. This blocks sunlight from reaching Earth for a short period, turning day into total darkness during the eclipse. How does a total solar eclipse occur? The Moon casts its shadow on Earth. People standing in the path of the Moon's shadow will see the Sun completely obscured. During this time, you may be able to see the Sun's outer atmosphere, called the corona, which is normally hidden by the Sun's bright light. A total solar eclipse usually lasts only few minutes and can only be seen from a narrow strip of Earth. When is the next solar eclipse of 2025? The next solar eclipse in 2025 is scheduled to occur on September 21. It will be a partial eclipse, where the moon will partially cover the sun's disk. As a result, the sun will appear as if part of it has been removed, forming a crescent. Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm
