ESPN snubs Deion Sanders in latest coach rankings
Deion Sanders didn't just bring flash to Boulder—he brought wins, relevance, and a belief that Colorado football could matter again. But apparently, that still isn't enough to earn him national respect.
In ESPN's recently released 2025 college football head coach rankings, Sanders was left on the outside looking in. Voted on by a panel of 12 analysts, the list featured the usual powerhouse names—Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, and Dabo Swinney—but barely acknowledged the man who's flipped Colorado's narrative on its head. Coach Prime received only three total votes, tying him for 18th overall, well outside the top 10.

It's a puzzling omission considering what Sanders has accomplished in just two seasons. Before his arrival, the Buffaloes were mired in a decade-long funk—posting a 41-81 record from 2012 to 2022 and failing to win a single bowl game. Enter Sanders, and the energy shifted overnight. After a 4-8 debut in 2023, he followed up with a 9-4 season in 2024, giving Buffs fans a reason to believe for the first time in years.
More than just wins, Sanders has turned Colorado into a recruiting powerhouse. The 2025 class ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 35 nationally, with major names like four-star quarterback Julian Lewis, , and elite EDGE rusher London Merritt already on campus. He's not just recruiting talent—he's developing it, too. The 2025 NFL Draft featured four Buffaloes, including Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, who went No. 2 overall, tying the program's highest draft selection.
So why the low ranking?
Some critics argue Sanders hasn't coached long enough to be considered elite. Others question the sustainability of his model. But with momentum building and more talent on the way, it's clear that if Sanders keeps winning, ESPN's voters won't be able to ignore him for much longer.

Buff Nation isn't asking for charity. Just recognition. And with another big year in 2025, Coach Prime might just force the conversation.

Travis Hunter's Madden Rating Raises Rare Questions
Travis Hunter's Madden Rating Raises Rare Questions originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Two years ago, a Reddit poster on r/Madden asked, 'Why do people care about Madden ratings?' Another replied: 'Some people like seeing what EA thinks of their favorite player.' Advertisement Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter will debut in Madden 26 with an overall rating of 76 — out of a possible 99. Considering that Hunter won the 2024 NCAA Heisman Trophy and was selected second overall in the 2025 NFL draft, is 76 too low? Too high? Or just right? Travis Hunter at Jaguars practice.© Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Hunter himself didn't react much to it when asked about his 76 after the second day of Jaguars' minicamp on Wednesday. The highest possible overall rating in the iconic video game is 99. In Madden 25, players like Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Justin Jefferson, Travis Kelce, and Trent Williams all earned that score. Advertisement On one hand, Hunter's a rookie. On the other hand, he's featured in Madden 26 marketing videos, used to generate excitement for fans to play him in the game. He was ultimately rated a 99 in EA Sports' College Football 25. Of course, the NCAA is not the NFL. So … 76. Are we good? Not many fans have weighed in yet, as Madden 26 doesn't launch until August 14. In a June 5 article, Hunter rated himself at least an 85. Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson, a former NFL receiver and one of EA Sports' live ratings adjusters, was more like nah. 'The best I could do for you as a rookie coming into the league … I give you a 76,' Johnson told the Jaguars' top draft pick. Advertisement Hunter enters his first NFL season with the Jaguars as the league's first legitimate two-way star since Deion Sanders in the early-to-mid 1990s. Sanders happened to be Hunter's head coach and mentor in college, at Jackson State and then at Colorado. The Jacksonville coaching staff is more concerned with how the flesh-and-blood Travis Hunter plays, and so far, are giving him high ratings for his play on both sides of the ball. 'It takes a really sharp person to be able to do that,' Jags defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said. 'He's blessed with a lot of intelligence and maturity. It's impressive to watch.' 'I've been doing it my whole life,' Hunter said after Wednesday's minicamp, in which he only played offense. In 11-on-11 drills, Hunter caught a touchdown pass against cornerback Tyson Campbell. Advertisement In his senior year at Colorado, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1258 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown. On defense, he intercepted four passes, broke up 11 more, and made 26 tackles, 25 of them solo. '(Hunter) is a fun guy to coach, to be around,' Campanile added. 'His position coaches love coaching him.' Fans Worried for Travis Hunter After New Video Surfaces
Travis Hunter has already hit the practice field for the Jacksonville Jaguars after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. He participated in rookie minicamp from May 9–11 and began OTA offseason workouts with the team on Monday. Hunter, a two-way player, entered the draft nearly at the top of draft boards because of his ability to play both sides of the ball at the highest level. The former Colorado Buffaloes standout was selected seven picks ahead of the first true wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, who went to the Carolina Panthers. Advertisement On Monday, footage of both Hunter and McMillan was posted side by side, showing their experiences with their new teams so far. Despite not running the same route, McMillan's route looked crisper, and Hunter struggled to come out of his break. Fans who saw the post headed to the replies and shared their worries for Hunter. "Worried about Travis," one wrote. "That was horrible by Travis," a fan said. "Quickly Realizing that The NFL isn't like college. It's good he realizes this now." "One guy is a WR that's played WR his whole career, one guy is an athlete trying to play WR," another wrote. "It's pretty obvious and I swear it's not a knock on Travis. Travis was able to get away with a lot of (expletive) in college bc it's college, that (expletive) won't fly in the league I promise you that." Advertisement "lol but remember they said tmac is not WR1…," added another. "Gotta learn them routes bro bro," said a fan. "It's the jaguars organizations fault. They just turn good players into bad one once drafted," a fan added.
