Aerodrome set for Queensland Winter Carnival campaign after Hawkesbury win
Trainer Michael Freedman has every reason to aim promising two-year-old Aerodrome at the Brisbane carnival after he maintained his perfect race record at Hawkesbury on Saturday.
Aerodrome was burdened with 58.5kg topweight on the heavy track but showed his class taking out the $160,000 Clarendon Stakes (1400m).
Freedman, a master trainer of two-year-olds, said Aerodrome will be aimed at Eagle Farm's two feature juvenile races, the Group 2 $1m BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) on May 31 and the Group 1 $1m JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14.

'I will see how he pulls up but all going well we will look at Brisbane now for Aerodrome,'' Freedman said.
'There's a month to the Sires' but he won't need to race again although if he needs it I might give him a barrier trial.
'Then we can look at the JJ Atkins as well because I don't think 1600m will be any issue.
'The best part about both of Aerodrome's wins have been his last 200m – he has been very strong through the line.''
Aerodrome ($2.10) favourite, the topical tip at the Hawkesbury stand-alone given the close proximity of the Royal Australian Air Force base at Richmond, was the immediate chaser of leader Hereward ($41) through the race wearing his brave rival down to win by three-quarters of a length with a similar margin to Zebra Finch ($12).
Jockey Regan Bayliss described Aerodrome as a 'beautiful horse who just keeps getting better and better'.
'He certainly knows where the winning post is,'' Bayliss said.
'I'm not sure the Heavy 8 was to his complete liking as he has such a nice action but, as he does, he found a way to win.
'I have no problem with him running a strong mile (1600m). I could hardly pull him up after the post. He has a bright future.''

Aerodrome continues Freedman's successful season with his two-year-old team highlighted by Marhoona's Golden Slipper triumph, giving the trainer his second win in the world's richest two-year-old race after Stay Inside won in 2021.
A $190,000 Inglis Easter Sale graduate, Aerodrome is a son of first-season sire sensation, Ole Kirk, himself the winner of the 2020 Golden Rose-Caulfield Guineas Group 1 double.
Ole Kirk, who stands at Vinery Stud, is represented by his first crop to race this season and already has 10 individual winners including four stakes winners of five stakes races for earnings of nearly $3 million to be leading first-season sire in all four categories.
His fee for the upcoming breeding season has increased from $55,000 to $99,000 (inc. GST).
Freedman took particular satisfaction winning for Aerodrome's ownership groups that includes Sean Dyson, who works in the mining industry, and is becoming a significant investor in the sport.

2025 Queensland Oaks: Kerrin McEvoy aiming to become second jockey to win race four times
Champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy is riding for a record-equalling fourth win in the Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on favourite Philia at Eagle Farm on Saturday. McEvoy has won the fillies classic previously on Youngstar (2018), Egg Tart (2017) and Purple (2009) and – if he is successful on Philia – will join Chris Munce as the only jockeys to ride four Queensland Oaks winners. Trained by David Vandyke, Philia has won four races in succession and is attempting to complete The Roses -Oaks double last achieved by Youngstar seven years ago. McEvoy ridden Philia in her last two wins and is convinced the filly will stay a strong 2200m in the Oaks. 'I don't think 2200m will be a problem for her,'' McEvoy said. 'She feels like a stayer so the extra furlong (a200m) should be fine. 'We have drawn out a little bit but she has tactical speed to settle somewhere in the front half and off-set that barrier. REGAL PROBLEM (6) ran third to Hidden Motive on debut. LORD VETTORI (4) could be saved for another venue on another day given the draw. In his absence, all roads lead to CURRUMBIN ALLEY (1) who is bred to be a miler, maybe even more, so all credit to the son of Vancouver (out of a Savabeel mare) for his half-length second at Gunnedah over 1250m. Drawn 1, 1300m and every extra metre assists. GRANDINI (10) was passed late first-up by Zelestial who might be above average. SPEEDY HENRY (2) has two wins and a third from four starts. He was $3 in a TAB Highway on April 26 at Randwick and had excuses for what was still a pretty creditable run. He's not an outright 'good thing' here but it would be hard to make a case for something to beat him. The one most likely, if at all, is the Brett Robb-trained WASTED DAYS (5) who might well go around later in the day as an emergency (Race 6). INVASIVE (1) has come back really well. ZELESTIAL (10) came to Australia with two runs in Ireland on her C.V, the first was a fifth to subsequent Group 3 winner Givemethebeatboys. The Lyle Chandler-trained daughter of Zoustar trialled like a bomb before her winning debut at Tamworth where she got a great ride. Scratched from Taree on Thursday to run here. WILLINGA KARISMA (1) has the home ground advantage. She's never been closer to a win. MISSY MOSS (9) has a bad draw but Bullock will help with that. PRESSNELL (2) is a genuinely talented son of Press Statement, hence the name, think Max. This big, bold gelding has a win, a second and two fifths from his four starts. This was already a very winnable race for the Mack Griffith-trained galloper but his chances went up when he drew 2 and Bullock booked. SORRENTO PALACE (6) aims to, and can, snap a sequence of three consecutive seconds, keeping in mind that the last two were by very narrow margins indeed. Bet: Pressnell to win, quinella 2, 6, box trifecta 2, 6, 11, 7 CUMNOCK (11) has the lowest Benchmark rating in this race; he's on 60, the ones at the top are both on 77. That said, he is a last start winner on the move. Was to run in the Highway on Saturday but is way down the list so run here instead where he is two from two at the track and trip. IRON HAT (1) has won six races with 12 placings. Famously unlucky at times, the Jan Bowen-trained chestnut has mixed and matched it in better races than this. ZAKOR (4) is good enough to win most country sprints; this one included. RHYTHM IS A DANCER (2) has won seven races in 27 starts with eight placings which is a fine achievement on his, and trainer Brett Cavanough's, behalf. Among those wins are a Country Cup at Scone and a Spring Cup at Tamworth where he beat Russley Crown each time as it happens. Walked in at Inverell last start. This is harder if only for the presence of another good, old trusty Scone resident namely THE DRAMATIST (1). That said, he needs things to pan out for him but when they do, he's city class.

Kimochi heads into unknown for Queensland Group 1 double shot

Best laid plans have been tweaked with the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup rescheduled to Saturday after being one of the races washed out last Saturday when jockeys complained of poor visibility. But Warwick Farm trainer Portelli said Kimochi will still race in the Kingsford Smith on Saturday as a pipe-opener to the Stradbroke seven days later. He admits the seven-day back-up is a step into the unknown for Kimochi, but feels it could even suit her. • $8000 filly who 'walks like a duck' spices up Stradbroke field 'She will run on Saturday, it's a Group 1 race, and I couldn't go to the 1400(m) of the Stradbroke with her straight away given she has had a big gap between runs,' Portelli said. 'A high pressure handicap like the Stradbroke, they have got to be fit. 'We have never had to back-up before, the program has never had us having to back-up. 'She does cope with pressure, she's a big strong mare and she has been in work for ages. 'It's not like she's coming out of a spell and she's going to be too fresh or underdone. Kimochi is rated an $11 chance in the Kingsford Smith and is the same price for her main mission of the Stradbroke seven days later. Nine-time Group 1 winner Portelli has had some terrific horses campaign in Queensland, including Rebel Dane who finished seventh in the 2014 Stradbroke which was won by Queensland bolter River Lad. But he hopes Kimochi can give him his first Sunshine State Group 1. 'The plan is she will take her place in the Stradbroke, unless we race below expectations this Saturday,' Portelli said.
