Robert Fripp recently suffered a heart attack and underwent two emergency surgeries in Italy.
The legendary King Crimson guitarist detailed the experience alongside his wife, Toyah Willcox, in an installment of the couple's 'Upbeat Moments' YouTube series. The heart attack occurred as he was embarking on a flight to Italy last month to perform at an Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists event at Castione della Presolana in Bergamo. He was suffering from chest pains that he assumed to be acid reflux, but still decided to fly, arranging for an appointment with a doctor once he reached Italy.
However, once he arrived in Bergamo, he was taken to a hospital to be tested before being admitted to intensive care, where he underwent two emergency surgeries. He was diagnosed as suffering from a trifurcated artery, and he had a pair of stents inserted during the two surgeries.
Given the typically joyful nature Robert and Toyah's videos, the King Crimson founder managed to make light of the scary situation with some comic relief.
'Well here's the interesting bit,' said Fripp. 'I was in A&E [Accident and Emergency] not quite knowing what was going on other than I knew they were going to do something, and an orderly came along and shaved my balls!'
Fripp, who turns 79 years old this Friday (May 16th), continued, 'Now the dear man, I really didn't wish his job on him at that point. Now this is the thing. So you're concerned with my heart, fine. What are you doing shaving my balls?'
Editor's PickToyah said that the language barrier in Italy made it difficult to communicate with the medical staff, and at one point, Fripp mistakenly removed his clothing when he was asked what he wanted to eat.
'They were complex moments,' Fripp laughed.
Thankfully everything else seems to have went well.
Editor's PickWhile Toyah quipped that the couple are 'not allowed any nookie for a month,' as Fripp recovers over the next six to eight weeks, they will continue their famous 'Sunday Lunch' performance videos in the meantime. Fripp was also able to still direct the guitar show at Castione della Presolana a week after his surgeries.

Lionsgate brought some intense energy to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with a brand-new trailer for The Long Walk , giving fans their first look at the highly anticipated Stephen King adaptation and you can watch tyhat trailer for yourself below! We also got an exclusive screening of the first 20 minutes, and it's as brutal and gripping as you'd expect. I've been incredibly excited for this movie, and it looks like it's going to deliver a very intense and emotional experience. The legendary Stephen King introduced the clip via video message, reminding fans of the story's dark roots while making a point to note how far ahead of its time this concept really was: 'It's got some hard bark on it.' Based on King's 1979 dystopian novel, The Long Walk takes place in a fractured America where entertainment is a deadly sport. The event is simple but chilling: 50 teenage boys walk nonstop. Drop below three miles per hour, and you're dead. There's no resting, no stopping, only walking. The last survivor wins a prize of their choice. The film stars Cooper Hoffman ( Licorice Pizza ) and David Jonsson ( Alien: Romulus ), with Mark Hamill ( Star Wars ) stepping into the role of a relentless military figure. The cast also includes Tut Nyuot, Garrett Wareing ( Ransom Canyon ), Charlie Plummer ( Looking for Alaska ), Ben Wang ( Karate Kid: Legends ), Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, Josh Hamilton, and Judy Greer. In the trailer, Charlie Plummer's character delivers a haunting line: 'The only guarantee you have as a human is that you're going to die. And if you're lucky, you get to choose how you'll spend those last moments.' What follows is an unflinching look at the competition's brutality. Dead animals line the roadside. One boy collapses as he gets a cramp and can't keep walking, falling to the ground, soldiers closing in with rifles drawn before a gunshot echoes. Jonsson's Pete admits, 'I keep hoping that part will get easier,' to which Hoffman's Raymond replies, 'That's what I'm afraid of.' Then comes Hamill's Major, staring down the young competitors: 'I look at each and every one of you, and I see hope.' During the panel, Hamill opened up about channeling the film's imposing antagonist, pulling inspiration from his childhood on a naval base in Japan. 'I knew exactly who [my character] is because I saw him firsthand,' Hamill said, recalling officers forcing soldiers to push through exhaustion until they vomited, and then made them eat it. 'The premise of the film itself is so off-putting. I don't know if I could see this movie. Much less be in it, but what happened was I read JT's script and the novel and saw the real heart and soul of the movie — which is the experience of the Walkers in these extraordinary circumstances. And I was blown away.' The footage teases a growing bond, and rivalry, between Raymond and Pete as they are sharing this intense experience. 'This is my chance to change things,' Raymond says at one point, before Hoffman delivers the line: 'Every moment matters. Especially at the end.' Francis Lawrence ( The Hunger Games films) directed the adaptation from a script by JT Mollner, who promised to keep King's raw and terrifying tone intact. Lawrence also popped in via video message with Ben Wang, currently shooting Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The Long Walk hits theaters on September 12, 2025, making it the second Stephen King adaptation of the year following The Life of Chuck , which also features Hamill alongside Tom Hiddleston.

The New ‘Long Walk' Trailer Promises a Grim, Nightmarish Stephen King Survival Tale
Author Stephen King and director Francis Lawrence are both known for deftly handling tales involving kids put through hell with no guarantee they'll survive. Think the Losers' Club in It for King and every young person to appear in a Hunger Games movie for Lawrence. So to combine their talents on The Long Walk, based on King's 1979 dystopian novel, feels rather ideal—not to mention nightmarish, as the film's brutal first trailer suggested. At San Diego Comic-Con, fans got a deeper look into the movie with stars David Jonsson, Tut Nyuot, Garrett Wareing, and Mark Hamill, as well as producer Roy Lee and screenwriter JT Mollner. That started off with a brand new trailer, which amps up the dread of the first, and gives us a bit more of Mark Hamill's chilling performance as the Major, the military leader who watches over the young men participating in the Long Walk… and acts as their angel of death as they're brutally picked off, one by one. The rest of the cast includes Cooper Hoffman, Judy Greer, Ben Wang, and Charlie Plummer. Here's the plot description, as chillingly simple as it gets: 'Set in a dystopian alternative version of the United States ruled by a totalitarian regime, the story follows 50 young men who sign up for the Long Walk, where they walk at a pace of three miles per hour until contestants are eliminated one by one and only one winner is left.' King Crimson's Manager Warns of ‘Premature' Excitement Following New Album Rumors
As rumors swirl regarding a new album from prog-rock icons King Crimson, the band's manager has urged fans not to get too excited about the prospect. News of a fresh record from the English outfit first came to light last week when guitarist Jakko Jakszyk spoke to Goldmine Magazine about his recent solo album, and his joining King Crimson back in 2013. As we speak, we're doing a King Crimson studio album,' Jakszyk admitted. 'When that will come out and what format or how—that's beyond my brief. But yeah, we've been doing it piecemeal, and then a couple of months ago, the management said, 'Can we?' So, yeah. I've been recording that with a view to it coming out in some format at some point. But who knows when?' Word of a potential new album from the veteran group undoubtedly came as a surprise to many, especially given that King Crimson was viewed as having effectively come to an end following the completion of their 2021 tour dates. In the wake of mounting speculation, manager David Singleton took to social media to respond to the claims that King Crimson have been in the studio. 'Addressing this very question before he died, Bill Rieflin posed the excellent question 'why make a studio album? There are excellent live recordings of all the songs out there already,'' Singleton wrote. 'One possible answer would be an album the very sound of which no-one has ever heard before. A sound driven by the three drummers. And it is true that those drummers have now recorded studio versions of their parts – separately, so that there is perfect separation. 'So there is indeed the seed of a new recording,' he continued. 'Whether it is an album, whether it sees the light of day, whether it is something else is unknown. As is the outcome of any creative process. 'So yes, recordings have taken place. We are building a new studio, and when it is complete I am looking forward to seeing what may, or may not, exist. Getting excited about the possibility of a new album, as has been happening in some quarters, is however somewhat premature. Carts before horses.' King Crimson was initially formed in 1968 by Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles, and Peter Sinfiel, with the band releasing their debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King the following year. Initially disbanding in 1974 after seven albums, further reunions would take place throughout the '80s and '90s, with the group's most recent record, The Power to Believe, arriving in 2003. At the time of their last dissolution, in December 2021, Fripp remained the only continuous member from the original lineup, telling Rolling Stone the following year that future tours from the band would only take place 'If I knew for certainty that King Crimson touring was the only way to prevent World War III.'
