Robin Uthappa shares simple yet complex way Kuldeep Yadav 'can certainly play more Tests' for India
Though Team India managed to finish the England series at a 2-2 draw, in hindsight, one could reflect on certain strategic choices and player selections, which might have yielded different results and shifted the balance in India's favour. One such aspect is the snub of Kuldeep Yadav.
Despite being regularly backed by experts, Kuldeep Yadav did not get a single chance in the series. Hence, what he could have offered with his deceiving variations in the series will forever remain a big what-if.

Gambhir-Gill picked Sundar over Kuldeep
Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill entrusted faith in Washington Sundar over Kuldeep, as the former gives batting depth besides chipping in with tight overs of spin. Sundar's selection eventually reaped ideal dividends in the 5th Test, as he played a blinder of a knock (53 runs) in the second innings and powered India to set a target of 374 in front of the hosts.
A spinning all-rounder or a bona fide spinner is a debate that may never cease, but former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has accepted the fact that a player like Sundar will always be favoured over Kuldeep as far as Test cricket is concerned. However, Uthappa did not conclude without providing a way out to Kuldeep- work on batting.
'Put Kuldeep in the 11 and make sure you're batting is still in a state where none of the fans will go after the team management or the captain. With all due respect to Kuldeep's prowess with the ball, he's got limitations to his batting. That's going to take a lot of effort from his side,' said Uthappa via his YouTube channel.
Needs to follow Ashwin's way
Uthappa advised Kuldeep to follow the path that Ravichandran Ashwin pioneered while playing for Team India.
'Ashwin has got 5-6 Test hundreds. If he can do that at the lower middle batting order, say at number eight or nine, then he will certainly play more Tests,' he added.

No Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem showdown in Poland as both skip Silesia Diamond League
Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra will skip the Silesia Diamond League 2025 in Poland. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is also missing from the entry list as the much-anticipated India-Pakistan athletics clash is now pushed further. read more Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra will not be taking part in the Silesia Diamond League 2025, which is set to take place on August 16 in Poland. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is also missing from the official entry list. Fans were excited because this was supposed to be the first time Neeraj and Nadeem faced each other after their showdown at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Nadeem had snatched the gold there from defending champion Neeraj, who had to settle for silver. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The organisers of the Silesia Diamond League 2025 had hinted last month that both Neeraj and Nadeem would be there in Poland to face off each other. However, doubts emerged after on his right calf in London last month. His coach had already said he would not be able to compete. Now, the official entry list also confirmed Nadeem's absence. Neeraj, however, was not injured but has still decided to skip the event. The reason behind Neeraj's decision is not known yet. Both Neeraj and Nadeem will now look to prepare for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next month. Meanwhile, Neeraj's close rivals, Julian Weber of Germany and Anderson Peters of Grenada, are competing in the event. Silesia Diamond League 2025: Men's javelin start list Roderick Genki Dean (Japan) Andrian Mardare (Moldova) Cyprian Mrzyglod (Poland) Anderson Peters (Grenada) Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad & Tobago) Julian Weber (Germany) Julius Yego (Kenya) Neeraj is currently tied with Weber at the top of the 2025 Diamond League men's javelin standings with 15 points each. However, with Neeraj skipping the upcoming Silesia leg, Weber has a clear chance to move into sole lead. However, the points table doesn't carry much weight as it is only used to determine the players for the Diamond League Final. In this case, even if Neeraj fails to take the top spot, he will still qualify, assuming he finishes in the top 6. Neeraj's 2025 season has been impressive. He started with a win at the Potch Invitational in South Africa, then came second in the Doha Diamond League where he threw 90.23m, a new Indian record. He also came second in the Kusocinski Memorial in Poland, but then bounced back to win at the Paris Diamond League. After that, Neeraj grabbed wins at the Ostrova Golden Spike in Czechia and the inaugural NC Classic in India.

Ex-Bowling Coach Explains Why Bumrah Played Only 3 Tests: 'This Is Far More Serious...'
Last Updated: Former India head coach Bharat Arun responded to the accusations of 'picking and choosing games' on Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah's workload management was the biggest talking point during India's tour of England. The ace Indian pacer has a long history of injuries, yet has managed to produce the best whenever on the field. Keeping that in mind, he was supposed to play just three out of five matches, which he had done by the 4 th Test. India were still trailing 2-1 in the series then, while the experts kept on debating over Bumrah's availability for the decider. While some favoured his absence, many questioned his intent to give the fifth Test a miss. But the truth was that the coach, Bumrah himself and the BCCI medical team were on the same page when his participation in the Test series was decided. Former India head coach Bharat Arun responded to the accusations of 'picking and choosing games' on Bumrah. Speaking with The Indian Express, Arun said it's unfortunate that India's premium pacer has to deal with such scrutiny despite putting his body on the line. 'It's so sad to hear about this stuff against Bumrah. He has had a serious surgery, and people should understand it is not as if the surgery is done and he is all good forever. No, this is far more serious stuff on his back now," Arun was quoted as saying. 'It's not picking and choosing. Just a few months back, he was hailed as the world's greatest fast bowler in Australia, and now, he is being criticised unfairly. Did he underperform in the three Tests? Two fifers he took. Why do you think it was announced way before the series itself that he would play 3 Tests, precisely to stop this kind of nonsense? Not for the world to fall to temptation and say play him as this Test is crucial … His body is like that now. We have to be careful and understand how hard this entire effort is and such a great feat for him to do what he is doing – playing for India through all this," he added. Bumrah came to England after dealing with stress fractures, abdominal strain, back surgery, and spasms in the recent past. Yet gave his best whenever he was on the field. He played only three Tests and picked up 14 wickets, India's second-highest wicket-taker after Siraj, at an average of 32. He bagged two fifers and a four-wicket haul as well. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. After IPL 2025 Disaster, CSK To Release Senior Stars And Invest In Young Talent: Report
IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are preparing for a major squad rebuild following their worst-ever IPL season, finishing at the bottom of the 2025 table. Reports suggest a strategy shift toward younger match-winners, with several senior players set to be released. Dhoni, Gaikwad and Owners Discuss Future Plans A meeting in Chennai between MS Dhoni, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and team owners reportedly focused on plugging loopholes from the mega auction squad. Despite the addition of young players like Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis mid-season, CSK couldn't salvage their campaign. Senior Stars on the Chopping Block Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin, bought for ₹9.75 crore, is likely to be released. Other players with uncertain futures include Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, Gurjapneet Singh, Nathan Ellis, Deepak Hooda, Jamie Overton, and Vijay Shankar. Offloading them could free up ₹34.45 crore, and with an additional purse, CSK might enter the mini-auction with ₹40 crore. Big Targets: Cameron Green and Ben Duckett CSK are reportedly eyeing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and attacking English opener Ben Duckett to add much-needed firepower. The franchise's primary focus will be on strengthening the top order, securing a reliable middle-order Indian batter, and adding a quality pacer. Sanju Samson in CSK's Radar The franchise has shown interest in Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who might exit RR following a fallout with the owners. However, acquiring him before the auction appears challenging, as CSK are unwilling to trade core players like Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube. A cash-only deal seems the only route, but it would require significant negotiation. Dhoni's Future Still Unclear MS Dhoni, 45, who captained the side after Gaikwad's injury last season, has not confirmed retirement plans. The management believes he could play one more season, but Dhoni has said he will decide after assessing his fitness in the coming months.
