Jannik Sinner Wins First Wimbledon Title by Beating Carlos Alcaraz
Credit: AELTC. Full restrictions below. Jannik Sinner patted himself on the back after digging deep into his well of mental resolve to take revenge on Carlos Alcaraz and win his first Wimbledon title. Only five weeks have passed since Alcaraz stunningly saved three match points in a French Open final fightback for the ages but his hopes of a third straight victory in SW19 were dashed by his great rival. This time it was world number one Sinner, the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles title, that came from behind, claiming a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory in three hours and four minutes – nearly two-and-a-half hours quicker than their Roland Garros epic. -- RESTRICTIONS No broadcast use. 'It's different to a Test match at Twickenham'
The British and Irish Lions have not played a Test series in front of fans since 2017 [Getty Images] The first Test against Australia on Saturday will have a different feel to it than a normal international game, says British and Irish Lions captain Maro Itoje. The 30-year-old will likely lead Andy Farrell's side out in Brisbane for his seventh Lions cap. Advertisement Itoje was announced as England captain at the start of this year but says leading out the Lions will be different than at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham. "It's the grandness of it. It's the occasion. It's different to a Test match at Twickenham or in any other part of the world," Itoje said. "The fans go crazy, the streets will be lined with people in Lions shirts, we won't be able to go anywhere so it is just a little bit different in that respect. "It's an opportunity that one should relish. It's one of the great opportunities and events for us."

Tennis star takes swipe at Jannik Sinner after Wimbledon victory
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios took a swipe at world No. 1 Jannik Sinner after he won Wimbledon for the first time in his career over Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. Sinner won the Grand Slam title in four sets. Kyrgios wasn't one to immediately celebrate the Italian star's triumph. He posted an asterisk on social media. The reaction came as Sinner's positive tests for the anabolic steroid clostebol came to light last year. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) suspended Sinner for three months. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said Sinner hadn't intentionally used a banned substance. Sinner tested positive for low levels of a metabolite of clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid that can be used for ophthalmological and dermatological use, in March 2024. Eight days after the Indian Wells tournament, Sinner tested positive again in an out-of-competition sample. According to the ITIA's initial findings, Sinner explained that he had tested positive after receiving a massage from a trainer who had used an over-the-counter spray that contained clostebol to treat a small wound after cutting his own finger. Even with the Wimbledon win and a French Open final appearance against Alcaraz, the steroid cloud has yet to disappear over Sinner. Kyrgios has been one of the biggest critics. "So wada come out and say it would be a 1-2 year ban," Kyrgios said in a post on X earlier this year. "Obviously sinners (sic) team have done everything in their power to just go ahead and take a 3 month ban, no titles lost, no prize money lost. Guilty or not? Sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist." Sinner now has four major titles – two at the Australian Open, one at the U.S. Open and the other at Wimbledon. The French Open is the only one that has eluded him. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
