Nebraska guard Brice Williams signs undrafted rookie free agent deal with Detroit Pistons
After not hearing his name called in the 2025 NBA Draft, Nebraska record-setter Brice Williams received a shot at the professional level, signing an undrafted rookie free agent deal with the Detroit Pistons. The 6-foot-7 guard is now the fourth former Husker in the NBA. He joins Bryce McGowens (Portland Trailblazers), Dalano Banton (Portland Trail Blazers), and Jack McVeigh (Houston Rockets). Williams concluded his Nebraska career with a record-shattering season. He averaged 20.4 points per game and set a new school record for points scored in a season. Williams totaled 713 points on the year, surpassing James Palmer Jr.'s previous mark of 708 in 2018-19. He scored at least 20 points in 20 games during the 2024-25 season and reached 30 points in four games. Williams is also just the fourth player in school history to score 1,000 points at Nebraska in just two seasons after joining the team in 2023. He finished his career with 1,168 points, putting him in 22nd all-time in school history. He also passed Eric Piatkowski's 31-year-old single-game scoring record in the team's loss to Ohio State. Williams racked up 43 points in the loss, breaking Piatkowski's old record of 42. Williams also helped Nebraska to two straight postseason tournaments and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. Though the Huskers fell in the Round of 64 in 2024, the team won its first postseason title since the 1996 NIT at the College Basketball Crown. In that tournament run, Williams averaged over 23 points to lead Nebraska to the Crown title. He then became the first Husker since Bryce McGowens in 2022 to be invited to the NBA Draft combine last month. Williams now joins a Pistons team that finished 44-38 on the season and lost 4-2 to the New York Knicks in the NBA Eastern Conference first round.
