‘They died in the line of duty': EFF on 12 members killed in KZN bus crash

EFF said the deceased lost their lives following a show of support for the revolution they belonged to.
The EFF has confirmed that the bus that killed 12 people in a tragic accident in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday morning was carrying its members.
The deadly accident which according to the KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements left ten other passengers seriously injured and 22 slightly injured - happened just after midnight, when the bus collided head-on with a truck on the R34 near Vryheid.
The party said it was saddened by the tragic passing of those who lost their lives in the devastating accident.
EFF said in a statement:
The EFF has confirmed that the transportation was taking members home from our June 16 Rally in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal. The EFF sends it deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who have lost their lives.

These fighters, the party said, lost their lives following a show of support for the revolution they belonged to, and they must be remembered as heroes to whom we owe a great debt.
The party said:
These were committed Fighters, who had attended the rally to honour the courage of the youth of 1976 and to continue the struggle for economic freedom. They died in the line of duty, and their lives will never be forgotten… We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and pray for healing to those injured. We will continue to honour the memory of the fallen with action and commitment to the struggle they believed in.
Many more have been injured and are receiving medical attention, the party said, and that the process of identifying the deceased was ongoing.
The party said it was working with relevant authorities to ensure families are informed and supported.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, said he would get an updated report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate as well as the SA Police Service.
He said his department had been informed that dismembered body parts of some victims were still missing and that the number of fatalities would either decrease or increase
Duma added that some victims were taken to local hospitals and that they were making all efforts to reach out to family members.
The truck and bus drivers survived and were also taken to hospitals.
