Chandrashekhar Bawankule welcomes NCP's Chhagan Bhujbal in Maharashtra cabinet, calls it a boost for govt
Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], May 20 (ANI): Maharashtra Minister and State BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday welcomed the inclusion of NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal in the state cabinet.
Speaking to reporters, Bawankule said, 'Chhagan Bhujbal is known as an OBC leader and the inclusion of NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal in the cabinet will strengthen the Maharashtra government.'
He further expressed gratitude to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar for including Bhujbal in the cabinet.
Bawankule added, 'Chhagan Bhujbal will play a major role in fulfilling the resolve of 'Viksit Maharashtra'.'
In the past, Bhujbal, the MLA from Yeola in Nashik district, has held key positions as a cabinet minister and also served as the Deputy Chief Minister in different Maharashtra governments.
While speaking to reporters and being asked about Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan's remarks on the all-party delegation visiting key partner countries to showcase India's continued fight against terrorism, Bawankule responded, 'Prithviraj Chouhan should refrain from commenting on this. Prime Minister Modi and our government have taken a strong stand against terrorism, and we want to show the world how we initiated this fight. That is why Modi ji has decided to form an all-party delegation- to unite all parties against terrorism. Our goal is to encourage the entire world to join us in standing against terrorism, and that is what Modi ji envisions.'
Earlier, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan had said, 'This is not a parliamentary delegation, it is a government delegation because non-MPs are also members. It is the government's right to decide what kind of delegation should be sent. It would have been right if the names had been decided, and those people could then ask their respective parties whether they should go. As per convention, the party should be written to and asked for names. This is an insult to parliamentary tradition and the Congress party. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister should have handled this delicately. They (Central govt) have made a mistake.'
The all-party delegations will project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They will convey to the world the country's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism.
The list includes MPs from multiple parties, divided into seven groups of 8 to 9 members. A leader has been assigned for each group, who will lead the delegation at a global level.
The Members of Parliament include Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, BJP leader Baijayant Panda, DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Eknath Shinde.
Seven all-party delegations, each led by a prominent leader from various political parties, will visit different countries to highlight India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Delegation 1, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, will visit Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria.
Delegation 2, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, will visit the UK, France, Germany, EU, Italy, and Denmark.
Delegation 3, led by JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, will visit Indonesia, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
Delegation 4, led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde, will visit the UAE, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone.
Delegation 5, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will visit the USA, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia.
Delegation 6, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, will visit Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, and Russia.
Delegation 7, led by NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule, will visit Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa. (ANI)

Bengaluru stampede: Panel gets one month to probe stampede
Bengaluru: Karnataka govt Saturday gave retired high court judge Justice John Michael D'Cunha, who heads a one-member judicial commission, one month to investigate the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 people dead and 75 injured. The govt issued a fresh notification on June 5, assigning priority to the probe into the tragedy that occurred during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. Justice D'Cunha was already heading a commission investigating two sensitive cases — the alleged Covid-era medical procurement scam and deaths of patients due to suspected oxygen shortage at Chamarajanagar district hospital. Initially appointed on Aug 25, 2023, the commission's term was extended in Oct 2024 till July 31, 2025. To accommodate the stampede inquiry, the govt has now extended the panel's term by another month. "Since the commission needs to prioritise the stampede incident and submit its report in a month after completing probe, the term has been extended from Aug 1 to Aug 31, 2025, as it may need extra time to look into the case," the government order stated. The Congress govt has launched a three-tier investigation into the incident — judicial, magisterial and by Criminal Investigation Department (CID). While Justice D'Cunha leads the judicial inquiry, a magisterial probe is being conducted by deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban, and CID is holding a parallel investigation. Multiple probes confusing: HD Kumaraswamy Union minister HD Kumaraswamy of JD(S) slammed the govt's approach, calling out the multiple probes as overlapping and confusing. "The govt wants to show that it has taken measures before the high court takes up the suo-motu PIL into the issue. The govt first ordered a magisterial probe, then appointed a commission headed by a retired HC judge, and the case was also handed over to CID. Which report are you going to accept?" he asked.

Facebook friend kills Cong worker, murder unzipped
Rohtak: Police have filed a detailed charge sheet in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, alleging that a man she met on Facebook strangled her after a dispute over Rs 30,000, then dumped her body in a suitcase near a bus stand. The accused, 30-year-old mobile repair technician Sachin from Kherpur village, allegedly killed Himani on Feb 28 at her Rohtak home, pawned her jewellery for Rs 1.87 lakh, and attempted to cover his tracks by impersonating her online, police have claimed. Himani, a prominent face in the Congress party's youth campaigns and a participant in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, reportedly met Sachin nearly a year ago through social media. Their friendship soured when she allegedly asked him for Rs 30,000, a demand he refused. It's written in the charge sheet that Sachin visited Himani's home in Vijay Nagar on the night of Feb 27 and stayed overnight. A heated argument the next evening escalated into violence, with Sachin allegedly strangling her in a fit of rage. CCTV footage captured him dragging the suitcase through the area. The next day, Sachin allegedly used Himani's mobile phone to send text messages to her mother and updated her WhatsApp status in an attempt to delay suspicion. When arrested, he was in possession of her two Apple mobile phones, both of which had been wiped. Those have since been sent to the forensic science laboratory for data recovery. Call detail records show Himani's phone location was aligned consistently with Sachin's before and after her death, further cementing the timeline.
