Hollywood star Adria Arjona: Acting school save me
Adria Arjona feels she's been "saved" by acting school.
The 33-year-old actress studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City during her teenage years, and Adria relished the experience, as she learned to "express" herself through acting.
The film star told Collider: "Acting school kind of saved me.
"I had a pretty rough upbringing. There were parts there that were not the happiest, and acting really came in and saved me and taught me how to express myself through what I do."
Adria was initially unsure what she wanted to do in her career. However, her dad thought she was perfectly suited to acting.
The Hollywood star shared: "Every movie made me want to be something else or learn a new task. One day, my dad was like, 'I don't know exactly what you think you're going to be, but I think you might be an actor.'"
Adria has starred in a host of high-profile projects in recent years, including 'Hit Man', 'Blink Twice' and 'Pacific Rim Uprising'.
And the actress has always embraced the opportunity to "play different characters" on screen.
She explained: "Every job you take, you're telling a story to the world of the kind of artist that you are, so you have to stick to your guns and be really truthful to what you believe in.
"It's mostly, also, for me, to not be bored, right? To play different characters and to show the world that I'm more than just one thing."
Despite this, Adria previously admitted that she'd like to be more "strategic" in her career decisions.
She told Empire: "I wish I was more of a strategic actor when it comes to making choices. But I'm just more excited by the women that I get to embody."
Adria starred alongside Glen Powell in the 2023 rom-com 'Hit Man', and the actress recalled quickly developing a strong "chemistry" with her co-star.
Speaking about her initial meeting with Glen, Adria told Empire: "It was supposed to be a one-hour meeting. We ended up talking for five hours.
"Chemistry comes from trust, and I think from our first meeting I just knew I could trust [Glen]. We created a space for us to play and be weird and sexy and funny."
'Hit Man' was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Richard Linklater, whose previous directing credits include 'Boyhood', 'School of Rock', and 'Everybody Wants Some!!'.
And Adria still remembers feeling anxious about meeting the filmmaker for the first time.
Recalling details of their first-ever Zoom call, the movie star shared: "My hands were sweaty. I was really trying to play it cool and that lasted for about ten minutes."

'Black Phone 2' is "more violent, scarier" and "more graphic" than the original film, according to director Scott Derrickson. The first movie - starring Mason Thames and Ethan Hawke - was based on a short story by Stephen King's son Joe Hill and was released in 2021 with the second instalment now due for release in October - and Derrickson has now told fans they can expect more gore in the follow-up. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "It is certainly more violent, scarier, more graphic. And part of that is because of the age of the kids." The first film followed the story of a teenage boy Finney Shaw (Thames) who is abducted by a serial killer called The Grabber (Hawke) and thrown into a soundproof basement. The youngster then finds out he can hear the voices of the villain's previous victims through a disconnected phone and they try to help him escape. Thames is back for the second film, and Derrickson revealed he wanted to make a follow-up quickly before the young castmembers aged too much. He added: "I thought if I go make another movie first and don't make a sequel now like you're supposed to, then by the time I finish, these kids are all going to be in high school." The second film was helped along by Hill, who sent the director some ideas, and Derrickson is convinced having a slightly older cast gives the film a different feel. He said: "A middle school coming-of-age horror movie is a different animal than a high school coming-of-age horror film ... There's a ratcheting up of intensity because of that." Derrickson previously admitted making a sequel 'wasn't a foregone conclusion". When Screen Rant asked the director what fans could expect from 'Black Phone 2', Derrickson said: 'A lot of surprises, for sure. I just finished shooting 'Black Phone 2', and what I can tell you is that I didn't feel obliged to make a sequel. It wasn't a foregone conclusion that I would make a sequel." On a production budget of roughly $18 million, 'Black Phone' grossed $161.4 million at the box office. Before his return for 'Black Phone 2' was confirmed, Hawke - who had previously worked with Derrickson on the 2012 horror flick 'Sinister' - said he would happily reprise his role as The Grabber in the sequel. The 'Before Sunrise' actor told Collider: 'I had a really wonderful experience making my first scary movie with him. We did a movie called 'Sinister', and he's just a real filmmaker. "I love the way he thinks about film and storytelling. And as I get older, I really enjoy working in different genres as an actor. It's a way to shape [and] change yourself as a performer. 'By trying to learn the math of what makes a great romantic comedy, what makes a great art film, what makes a great horror film, what makes a great Western, you know, there's a certain geometry to all that and Scott is brilliant at that. 'And so, basically, if he wants me to be in 'Black Phone 2', I'm gonna do it.' 'Black Phone 2' is due for release on 17 October 2025.

Eiza Gonzalez loved working with Guy Richie on Fountain of Youth
Eiza Gonzalez was "like a sponge" on the set of 'Fountain of Youth'. The 35-year-old actress stars alongside the likes of John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and Domhnall Gleeson in the Guy Ritchie-directed adventure film, and Eiza has revealed that she relished working with the acclaimed filmmaker. Eiza told "I was so excited when I was like, camera tested for 'The Batman'. And that whole process was shocking and I couldn't believe it because I was especially such a huge fan of Catwoman. And in that moment, I was like, you know, distraught that I didn't get it. "But then I watched it and I was like, wow, I just like, loved it. I loved her. I loved the role. I loved Zoe in it. "I just was so obsessed with what Matt had created and now I'm just like, it's just nice to see people for the right role getting cast in the right role and I just like to watch it as an audience member." Directing is really rewarding, says Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson found directing to be a "really rewarding" experience. The 40-year-old star made her directorial debut with 'Eleanor the Great', the new drama movie starring June Squibb in the title role, and Scarlett has revealed that she loved the challenge of working behind the camera. The Hollywood star told 'Extra': "I have a different perspective on just the process of, you know, pre-production and then what goes on after we all leave. I think, as an actor, you're hoping that the director sees kind of what you were doing and follows, you know, pulls the right thread and all of that stuff, but you don't know. "You have no, kind of, control over it and now, you know, having experienced the other side of it, it just gives you, I think, an interesting insight into how people, other directors make their choices and the process that they go through to, you know, make it all happen. "It's a lot of work, but it can be really rewarding." Scarlett recently premiered the movie at the Cannes Film Festival, and she relished walking the red carpet with Erin Kellyman and June Squibb. The actress said: "Just being able to stand alongside Erin Kellyman and June Squibb after the film premiered and feel the warmth of the audience and the love from the audience for the film and for the incredible performances in it, it was such a moving moment. "And just to see June also so celebrated everywhere we went in Cannes, people were so excited to see her. It was just, it was amazing. "I'll never forget that moment of just being with those women after the screening and celebrating, you know, with the audience. It was really touching.' Despite this, Scarlett recently revealed that she's "not sure" whether to focus her attention on directing or acting. The film star doesn't yet know whether her long-term future is in front, or behind, the camera. Asked if the film marks a new beginning for her, Scarlett told Collider: "I don't know. I'm not sure. I guess we'll see. "My intention is to work on projects I would go and see, whether they're like 'Jurassic World' or this film. The commerciality of things is also important to me, too. Would audiences want to see this, too? Is this generally interesting? Those are things I look for and focus on and care about. So, we'll see, I guess." Scarlett - who is one of the best-paid actresses in Hollywood - insisted that she has no intention of retiring from acting. She clarified: "I'm certainly still an actor for hire — I want that to be widely printed."
