Mr. Aoun: Time is of the Essence
By : Ya Libnan Editoria Board Instead of disarming and handing over its weapons to the Lebanese army, Hezbollah is busy rearming itself after its humiliating defeat by Israel. Just yesterday, Syrian security forces in the border city of Qusayr foiled an attempt to smuggle an arms shipment into Lebanon, according to the Syrian interior ministry. Qusayr was the base from which Hezbollah launched attacks against the Syrian opposition, fighting to support the now-deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who was overthrown last December by the HTS rebels. It appears Hezbollah still maintains underground warehouses filled with heavy weapons. On the eve of Eid al-Adha, Israel bombed Hezbollah's underground drone factories . These developments underscore the disturbing reality that neither Israel nor Hezbollah truly cares about Lebanon's wellbeing. This is a recipe for disaster as Lebanon enters its crucial summer tourism season. Who in their right mind would visit Lebanon if Hezbollah is building drones practically next to Beirut airport? President Aoun has been dealing with Hezbollah diplomatically, using kid gloves to handle the organization. But it's obvious that Hezbollah is taking advantage of President Aoun's good character, rearming behind his back. Even more troubling is the fact that Hezbollah is not acting independently but is, in fact, a proxy of Iran. Its primary loyalty lies with Tehran's agenda, not with the Lebanese people. Hezbollah's actions are dictated by Iran's strategic calculations—using Lebanon as a bargaining chip in its negotiations with the United States. Hezbollah's only goal is to strengthen Iran's position at the negotiating table, even if that means dragging Lebanon into conflict and chaos. Hezbollah doesn't give a damn about Lebanon. Its weapons are not for the defense of Lebanese citizens but for the advancement of Iran's regional ambitions. Lebanon has become a hostage to Hezbollah's regional games, and the Lebanese people are paying the price. Mr. President, it's time to be bold. Disarm Hezbollah now, before it's too late. The fate of Lebanon—and the lives and livelihoods of its people—depend on it.

Lebanon Under Israeli Fire Anew: Most Violent Strikes on Dahiyeh Since 2024 Ceasefire
The Israeli enemy launched on Thursday a wave of strikes targeting residential buildings in Beirut's southern suburb, Dahiyeh, on the eve of Eid Al-Adha. More than 20 strikes, including preliminary raids, targeted at least four locations across the Dahiyeh, in the most violent strikes since the ceasefire between Lebanon and the Zionist entity took effect on November 27, 2024 following a 66-day brutal Israeli war. The strikes were preceded by four evacuation orders issues by the Israeli occupation army. ⚡️⭕️ The number of airstrikes on the Beirut southern suburb has risen to 7 — Middle East Observer (@ME_Observer_) June 5, 2025 Trough out three hours, residential buildings in Al-Qaem area, American Neighborhood, Rweis and Kafaat across the Dahiyeh, our correspondent said. The strikes on Thursday are the fourth aggression on Dahiyeh since the 2024 ceasefire. The first aggression took place in late March, targeting the area of Jamous, while the other attacks were carried out by the Israeli occupation in April, targeting Hay Madi and Jamous areas. Lebanese Officials Denounce Flagrant Attack Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, PM Nawaf Salam and Speaker Nabih Berri strongly condemned as flagrant the Israeli aggression, urging the international community to act to stop the attacks. In a statement, the Lebanese Presidency voiced 'firm condemnation of the Israeli aggression' and called the strikes a 'blatant violation of an international agreement, as well as the basic principles of international and humanitarian laws and resolutions, on the eve of a sacred religious occasion,' referring to Eid Al-Adha. — Lebanese Presidency (@LBpresidency) June 5, 2025 President Aoun said the attacks prove the Israeli 'rejection of the requirements of stability, settlement and just peace in our region.' The Lebanese president accused the Israeli occupation of using Lebanon as a 'mailbox' to send a message to the United States. For his part, PM Salam also issued a statement condemning the strikes calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities to deter 'Israel' from continuing its attacks and oblige it to fully withdraw from the points it still occupies in south Lebanon. Commenting on the Israeli aggression, Speaker Nabih Berri said that his stance matches with that of President Aoun 'in all its national aspects.' 'Israeli hostility does not target a sect or a region, but rather all of Lebanon, the Lebanese, and the Arabs,' Speaker Berri stated, in remarks carried by Al-Manar.

Recognizing Palestinian state now would send 'wrong signal', Germany says
by Naharnet Newsdesk 05 June 2025, 16:21 Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Thursday that recognizing a Palestinian state at the moment would send "the wrong signal". Speaking at a Berlin press conference with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar, he said that "negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians must be concluded" first, before the recognition of a Palestinian state. Spain, Ireland and Norway last year recognized a Palestinian state, and French President Emmanuel Macron has recently stepped up his support for the idea, leading Israel to accuse him of a "crusade against the Jewish state". Last week Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed to build a "Jewish Israeli state" in the occupied West Bank, a day after the government announced the creation of 22 new settlements in the Palestinian territory. Wadephul said Thursday that he was "concerned about the extremely tense situation in the West Bank" and that the German government "rejects" the creation of new Israel settlements there as illegal under international law. He also said, on the Gaza war, that "too little" aid was reaching civilians in the war-torn territory, where the United Nations warned last month that the entire population was at risk of famine. Wadephul said he had renewed his "urgent request to allow humanitarian aid to Gaza" without restrictions as required by international law. He also stressed that Israel has a right to defend itself against Hamas and other enemies, and that "therefore Germany will of course continue to support Israel with arms deliveries, that was never in doubt".
