Time of India20-05-2025

Bollywood star
Randeep Hooda
, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release "Jaat", has bagged the film rights to the military bestseller "
Operation Khukri
" and will be seen starring in the epic war drama.
"'Operation Khukri' is a story that moved me deeply. It's not just a tale of guns and glory, but of sacrifice, brotherhood, and unyielding courage in the face of insurmountable odds," Randeep said about the upcoming project.
Randeep has secured the official movie rights to "Operation Khukri: The Untold Story of the
Indian Army
's Bravest
Peacekeeping Mission
Abroad" by
Major General Rajpal Punia
, and Damini Punia, setting the stage for his next major project, a military drama chronicling one of the Indian Army's most audacious operations on foreign soil, reports variety.com.
He added: "To step into the shoes of Major General Punia, a man who led his men out of a 75-day siege in an unknown land, is an honour and a responsibility. Our aim is to bring to life a chapter of Indian military history that deserves far more recognition - not just for the spectacle, but for the spirit of our soldiers who would rather die than surrender. I believe this story has the power to inspire every Indian."
The film "Operation Khukri" will bring to screen the harrowing real-life events from 2000, when 233 Indian soldiers were held hostage by rebel forces in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and the subsequent high-risk rescue mission that followed.
The actor will portray Major General Raj Pal Punia (then a young Company Commander of the 14th Mechanised Infantry), who navigated both the tense standoff and the extraordinary rescue operation amid challenging jungle warfare conditions, according to variety.com.
The mission began as a peacekeeping effort but escalated into a tense 75-day standoff that tested the resolve of the Indian contingent, who found themselves surrounded without supplies in the hostile terrains of Kailahun.

7 Million Views, But Not Real: IFS Exposes Viral Lion Video, Claims It Is AI-Generated

Last Updated: In the comment section, some people were amazed by the video, while others asked IFS how to differentiate between AI-generated and real videos. In today's time, AI-generated videos are taking over social media, with some being so lifelike that it's hard to distinguish reality from fiction. A recent viral clip has sparked debate, showing a lion approaching a sleeping man in an Indian street, sniffing him, and then walking away unscathed. The internet is buzzing with questions: 'Is this real or AI-generated? The video garnered 7 million views on social media, and now it's been claimed as AI-generated by IFS Parween Kaswan. This raises important questions about the potential for AI to be used to mislead or confuse people. Given that AI is still in its early stages, it's concerning to think about the possibilities as the technology continues to evolve. This video showing a lion sniffing human has around 7 millions views. This is AI generated video. Imagine how AI can be used to confuse people. And now imagine AI is still at nascent stage !! — Parveen Kaswan, IFS (@ParveenKaswan) June 8, 2025 In the comment section, some people were amazed by the video, while others asked IFS how to differentiate between AI-generated and real videos. 'Sir, can you please elaborate on how you identify this video generated by AI?" one user asked. 'Imagine how deepfake and AI can make far up tensions in some parts, which are sensitive," the other commented. First Published: June 08, 2025, 13:49 IST

Housefull 5 Worldwide Opening Weekend Box Office: Collects Rs 132 crore globally, biggest for Akshay Kumar

The Akshay Kumar-led Housefull 5 has scored big results at the global box office as estimates indicate collections in the range of Rs 131.00 crore to Rs 133.00 crore, depending on actuals for Sunday in India and International markets. Housefull 5 opened at Rs 37.25 crore on Friday, followed by a jump to Rs 47.75 crore on Saturday, and a rather steady Sunday of Rs 47.25 crore. The film has done good business in India, whereas the international biz can be termed very good. The first weekend collections of Housefull 5 are the biggest till date for Akshay Kumar, surpassing his previous best, Sooryavanshi (Rs 117 crore). It is also the second biggest opening weekend of the year at the worldwide box office for a Hindi film after Chhaava (Rs 157 crore), bettering Sikandar (Rs 124 crore). Housefull 5 has grossed Rs 95.25 crore in India, and another Rs 37 crore (Estimates) in the international markets, taking worldwide weekend total to Rs 132.25 crore. The film has scored well in markets like New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Canada, Germany, and USA, whereas UAE was just about decent. The film will be looking to enter the Rs 200 crore club at the worldwide box office in 8 to 10 days flat, and the aim will be to close around the Rs 300 crore mark, though the hold on Monday will play a big role in deciding the fate of the film going forward. Talking of Akshay Kumar films, Housefull 5 holds the top spot as far as global opening is concerned, followed by Soorayavanshi, Mission Mangal, Good Newwz, and Housefull 3. The first weekend results are very good, and has laid the platform for the film to emerge a success story, though the film needs to record a trend on the weekdays to seal the tag of a winner. Here's a look at the day-wise box office collections of Housefull 5 Friday: Rs 37.25 crore Saturday: Rs 47.75 crore Sunday: Rs 47.25 crore (Estimates) Total: Rs 132.25 crore (Estimates)

India's highest paid director, charging ₹200 crore for a film, not Karan Johar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga or Rohit Shetty

Several factors determine whether a film becomes a box office success-- be it star power, chart-topping music, or a stellar screenplay. But at the heart of it all is the director, the true captain of the ship, who brings the entire vision to life. While it is the star actors who are paid hefty to bring the audience, it is India's highest-paid director who charges even more than actors like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It is SS Rajamouli who holds the title of India's highest-paid film director. The Telugu filmmaker charges around ₹ 200 crore for each film he directs as per IMDd. It is said to include his upfront fees, profit share, and bonus for the sale of rights. His share can even climb higher depending on the success of the film. For instance, RRR was a global success, fetching even Academy Awards. Rajamouli was reportedly paid ₹ 200 crore after the success of his Baahubali franchise. A ₹ 200 crore paycheck for a single film places the director among the highest-paid film personalities in the country. In fact, some of India's richest superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are said to earn around ₹ 150-180 crore per film. Rajamouli's remuneration remains higher than theirs. SS Rajamouli's massive paycheck highlights his superstar status among directors. When RRR was promoted in North India, it was marketed as Rajamouli's film, despite having two major actors, Ram Charan and Jr NTR from the South industry. It happened so because of the Baahubali films which made him a household name across India. Baahubali 2 alone earned ₹ 510 crore in Hindi, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film for six years until Pathaan's release in 2023. Similarly, RRR also did impressive business at the ticket window, collecting over ₹ 270 crore in its Hindi version. If we believe the industry insiders, no other director comes close to Rajamouli's earnings. He charges more than double what others are getting in India. Big names like Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Prasanth Neel are said to earn around ₹ 90 crore per film. Celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani takes home ₹ 80 crore, as per reports. Directors like Sukumar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Siddharth Anand also charge a big amount, with each earning over ₹ 40 crore for a single film, yet nowhere close to the RRR director. Meanwhile, Hindi filmmakers like Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty who usually produce their own movies, make money through profit-sharing. They are said to not charge money as their fees. SS Rajamouli's upcoming film, tentatively titled SSMB29, is said to be Telugu action-adventure. It will reportedly star Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The much-anticipated pan-India film is expected to hit theatres in 2027.
