9-year-old boy electrocuted while playing in MCD Park in south Delhi

A nine-year-old boy was electrocuted to death in a park in Kalkaji, south-east Delhi on Saturday night when he tried to retrieve a ball that had fallen into an open BSES electricity switchboard attached to an electric pole. The victim was identified as Aryaman Chaudhary, a Kalkaji resident. His father Randeep is a yoga teacher. Police have registered a case on charges of causing death by negligence under Section 106 and negligent conduct with respect to machinery under Section 289 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kalkaji police station. The park is run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). MCD and BSES blamed each other for the victim's death. 'The boy was playing in the park when his ball accidentally fell into the open electric switchboard. While attempting to retrieve it he received an electric shock and was electrocuted. He was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The electric shock originated in a BSES electricity point housed in an iron cabin. The team is questioning every person involved including the park caretakers,' said an investigator. Police said that the boy was playing with three friends. When he collapsed, one of his friends went to check on him and he got a shock as well but wasn't injured. Seeing the child unconscious, a woman sitting nearby went to help him and got a shock as well but she managed to pick him up and take him to a hospital with the help of a few bystanders. In a statement, MCD said that the civic body's pole located in the park is completely covered and the open feeder pillar belongs to the BSES. 'It seems that while the child was playing in the park, ball travelled to the space near the open feeder pillar of BSES which proved fatal. The MCD pole in this case is completely covered,' it said. An MCD official said that the site was inspected by civic officials. 'We confirmed that the electrical panel belongs to BSES and appear to be used to supply electricity to adjacent residential buildings. This panel is not under the jurisdiction or maintenance of MCD, and is not connected to any park facility. Local residents also told us that they saw BSES personnel carrying out digging or repair work near the panel earlier in the day. It is suspected that this activity may have caused electric current leakage, leading to the tragic incident,' the official said, requesting anonymity. A BSES official said: 'Our condolences are with the family of the victim. On-ground inspection clearly established that there was no leakage from the BSES feeder pillar or any part of the discom's infrastructure. The current leakage originated from a metallic streetlight pole installed and maintained by civic agency, with power supplied through a controller managed by EESL on behalf of civic agency. The complaint was immediately acted upon by the BSES team, which dispatched the on-duty team to the site. The team's inspection confirmed no fault in BSES equipment. We are fully co-operating with the authorities in the investigations.' In a similar case in August 2024, a 13-year-old boy in Ranhola accidentally came in contact with an iron pole carrying electricity to a cow shelter while playing cricket and was electrocuted. In April 2024, a 12-year-old boy was electrocuted in Chhawla after touching an electric pole during a thunderstorm . According to the Delhi Fire Service, the Capital witnessed at least 50 cases of electrocution since 2024 which resulted in more than 20 deaths, including minors.

Lin Laishram calls herself ‘not the ideal Manipuri bride' on wedding day with Randeep Hooda: ‘I couldn't do it'; expert on embracing imperfection

In a recent interview, actor Lin Laishram recalled grinning ear to ear on her Meitei wedding day with actor Randeep Hooda in November 2023. While the Manipuri wedding, which drew significant attention for their traditional attire and rituals, saw Lin and Randeep looking their absolute best, Lin called herself 'not the ideal Manipuri bride' in the way she conducted herself. 'Manipuri brides are supposed to be not smiling at all. They are not supposed to look here and there and move a lot. But I couldn't do it. Usually, I am a still, very calm person. But that day, I don't know what happened. I was moving so much, looking here and there, and I was looking at Randeep. And I was laughing. Randeep was sitting straight, and I was laughing, looking at him,' Lin told Hauterrfly. Her father even sent a person who asked her to stop smiling. 'So, my father sent a person in the mandap to tell me not to laugh. 'You look so excited to get married. ' I was not smiling because I was happy or excited, but I was smiling at Randeep because he was looking so proper. He was not looking at me at all because he thought that if he looked at me, he would laugh. So, I was not the ideal Manipuri bride,' added Lin, 39. She also expressed that while walking towards the mandap, she 'felt very nervous'. 'There were 10,000 million butterflies in my stomach. I didn't know how I was looking because I wasn't shown the mirror. He (Randeep) said, I was looking like a goddess or something. When I reached the mandap, when I saw Randeep, very nicely sitting and following all the rituals, I felt very calm. I felt good looking at him.' This sentiment reflects a deeper emotional space where personal expectations and cultural traditions intersect. According to Dr Chandni Tugnait, psychotherapist, director, Gateway of Healing, most brides (and even grooms) can resonate with such sentiments because weddings tend to be such a mammoth and once-in-a-lifetime experience. Deconstruct the cultural script: Instead of adhering to an idealised version of what your marriage day should look like, challenge and deconstruct the cultural expectations. 'Recognise that your personal experience is just as valid, even if it doesn't fit traditional molds,' said Dr Tugnait. Create space for imperfection: Rather than striving for perfection, acknowledge the beauty in imperfection. Understand that feelings that you didn't 'do justice' to your marriage day are temporary. Each and every moment is etched in life and in the memories of people who have joined in your celebrations. 'So, no matter how imperfect you perceive them to be, it's a beautiful memory that you have lived,' said Dr Tugnait. Reframe vulnerability as strength: When you feel inadequate or disconnected from the 'ideal,' it's easy to view vulnerability as a weakness. However, embracing vulnerability, especially when shared with a supportive partner, builds a more resilient and authentic connection, said Dr Tugnait.

EXCLUSIVE: Did working in Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 hamper Amit Sial's friendship with Randeep Hooda?

Randeep Hooda was set to star in Battle of Saragarhi but the film was shelved after the success of Akshay Kumar's Kesari, which was based on the same subject. Amit Sial, who was a part of Kesari Chapter 2, recently revealed whether working in the spiritual sequel hampered his friendship with Randeep. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla's Hindi Rush, Amit Sial was asked if he was unsure about working in Kesari Chapter 2 since his friend Randeep Hooda's film was shelved due to the first part. In response, the actor shared an interesting trivia about how the movie initially wasn't titled Kesari 2. He said, 'Working title uska tha Sankaran Nair vs the Crown. Jab mai shoot kar raha tha toh baki logon ne bhi obviously point out kiya hoga, maine bhi apne director Karan se ekdum aise hi normally baat kari thi ki, 'Bhai kaise samjhega koi yeh title? Yeh toh matlab bahut hard core angrezi type title hai.' (Its working title was Sankaran Nair vs the Crown. When I was shooting, other people must have obviously pointed it out too, I normally said to my director Karan, 'How will anyone understand this title? This is a very hard core English type title.'' He continued, 'I think phir inn logon ne kuch apas me apna vichar vinash karke Kesari 2 iska naam rakha because Kesari 1 was a successful film (They discussed among themselves and named it Kesari 2 because Kesari 1 was a successful film).' Amit added, 'So why not take advantage of the fact that it was a successful film and this is also an ode to the nation and what happened in Jallianwala Bagh. It's an emotional movie like the first one. So they changed the name.' Watch the full interview here! Talking about his bond with Randeep Hooda, Amit Sial shared, 'Itni kacchi bhi nahi hai dosti humari ki matlab 30 saal ki dosti jo hai mujhe usme sochna pade ki main Kesari 2 mein kaam karunga ki nahi karunga because Kesari 1 mein Akshay Kumar ji ne kaam kar liya Battle of Saragarhi mein jiske liye Randeep prepare kar raha tha. Nahi yaar, yeh sab bahut choti baatein hain (Our friendship is not that weak that I had to think whether I would work in Kesari 2 or not because in Kesari 1, Akshay Kumar ji had worked in Battle of Saragarhi for which Randeep was preparing. No, all these are very small things).' When asked if he felt that injustice was done with Randeep, the actor stated, 'Mera bhai hai woh aur maine uski preparation dekhi thi. Injustice tak toh baat nahi pahunchi dimaag mein but kyunki main uss aadmi se itna attached hun toh maine jo uski preparation dekhi thi toh jitna disappointed woh tha utna hi disappointment mujhe bhi feel hua. Kyunki meri family hai woh. (He is my brother and I saw his preparations. Injustice never crossed my mind but because I am so attached to that person, I saw his preparations and I felt as disappointed as he was. Because he is my family).' He concluded by saying that Randeep got out of it so he did as well.
