Dravidian model govt Version 2.0 in 2026, says MK Stalin in pitch for state polls

Hindustan Times29-04-2025

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Tuesday said that he is confident of his Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government to retain power in next year's assembly elections in the state adding that the 2026 polls will see part two of the DMK's Dravidian model.
'Version 2.0 is loading in 2026,' Stalin said after presenting the demand for grants of his home department portfolio.
Stalin also listed achievements of the 4-year-old DMK government including no dropouts in the middle schools, a growth rate of 9.69% in 2024-25.
'So far, what has been witnessed is Dravidian model government part 1. Version 2.0 loading in 2026. We will create more records after that,' Stalin said adding that it would be the seventh time the DMK is forming the government.

While making announcements regarding the home department, Stalin announced that September 6 will be celebrated as 'Police Day'.
'If criminal activities occur here, immediate action is taken and the accused are arrested,' Stalin said.
'We are even ready to rectify our mistakes if there are any. I am replying to those who say law and order is not good with malicious intentions for political gains, this is not Manipur, this is not Kashmir. Here, there are no deaths like the UP Kumbh Mela. This is Tamil Nadu, don't forget that,' he said.
In response to Stalin, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary and leader of opposition (LoP) Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) said that his party led NDA coalition will form the government in 2026.
'Only DMK's failure 2.0 will load in 2026,' EPS said.

AIADMK a weed, should be eradicated: CM Stalin at agri expo

ERODE/TIRUPPUR: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday came down heavily on the AIADMK accusing it of betraying the farmers in all ways and alleging that farmers had to fight for everything under its rule. 'However, that situation has now changed under the DMK regime,' the CM said. He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day agricultural exhibition and conference organised by the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department at Vijayamangalam in Erode district. 'Farmer suicides increased during the last AIADMK regime. When farmers protested in Delhi against the now-repealed three contentious central farm laws (2020-21), the AIADMK supported those laws without any shame. That's why farmers defeated that party. Weeds like AIADMK should be completely eradicated from the country,' Stalin said. 'Many more schemes for farmers are going to come under the Dravidian model government, which will come to power again in Tamil Nadu. And for that, all the farmers should support this government. We are not fake farmers who deceive people. We are the first to support farmers in times of trouble,' the CM added. Stalin said he was delighted to meet the farmers of the western region through this event before the release of water from Mettur Dam on Thursday for Cauvery Delta irrigation.

Securing more seats is as important as defeating AIADMK-BJP combine: CPM

CHENNAI: Hinting at the party's resolve to seek more seats in the DMK alliance in the 2026 Assembly election, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam on Wednesday said securing more seats for the party is as important as fighting the communal AIADMK-BJP alliance in the Assembly election. Launching the CPM's state-wide 'People's Meeting Campaign' on Wednesday, Shanmugam said, 'Under the current political circumstances, the DMK-led alliance remains the most viable platform to counter this communal threat.' Reiterating the need to electorally defeat the AIAMDK-BJP combine, the CPM leader, however, said the party's foremost political objective in Tamil Nadu will be to defeat the BJP alliance. 'But we also aim to contest and win more seats in the upcoming elections to strengthen the party's presence in the state Assembly,' Shanmugam said. He acknowledged that all alliance partners naturally seek more seats and expressed confidence that the DMK leadership would make reasonable decisions during negotiations.

‘EPS betrayed farmers; AIADMK a weed that needs to be removed'

1 2 3 Erode: Chief minister M K Stalin charged that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has betrayed the farming community. Addressing the farmers after inaugurating the three day agriculture expo at Vijayamangalam in Erode district on Wednesday, Stalin said AIADMK was like a weed that needs to be removed. "As farmers, you must be aware that weeds that grow among crops should be removed,'' Stalin said. "Recall the days when you were forced to hold protests to get your demands fulfilled when the AIADMK was in power,'' he said, adding that life was a struggle for farmers during the AIADMK period and there were farmer suicides. "The circumstances have changed now,'' Stalin said. Continuing his criticism of the AIADMK, Stalin said when farmers in New Delhi protested the three agricultural bills that the BJP brought, EPS had supported those laws, which was a betrayal of TN farmers. Calling upon farmers to back DMK in 2026 assembly election, Stalin said the Dravidian model govt's version 2.0 will win again for sure in the poll and would continue to safeguard the interests of farmers. Stalin said his administration renamed the department as Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department and also presented an exclusive budget for agriculture sector. As a result of the emphasis on agriculture, TN has achieved a food grain production of 458 lakh metric tonnes. 'The yield of food grains has risen from 2,235 kg per hectare in 2020-21 to 2,871 kg per hectare in 2024-25," he said. Sharing statistics, Stalin said the cooperative sector has disbursed 62,352 in crop and livestock maintenance loans to 8.1 million farmers, special health camps for livestock have been organized, benefiting 2.6 million farmers and two lakh free agricultural electricity connections have been given across state. Stalin later proceeded to Salem where he received petitions and greeted people. He was felicitated by the public and party workers. He also honoured requests from students for selfies. At Mettur, he presided over a meeting with party functionaries.
