Shoaib Akhtar faces legal action from Dr Nauman Niaz over televised remarks

Television host and former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official Dr Nauman Niaz has served a defamation notice of Rs1 billion to former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar.
The notice follows a televised statement made by the former Pakistani pacer during an appearance on a TV programme on May 25.
During the broadcast segment titled The Dug Out, Shoaib stated that Dr Nauman 'used to carry our bags' and that 'he was kept for that purpose.' The remark was circulated on social media and received widespread attention.
A legal notice, dated May 29, was issued by Dr Nauman's legal counsel. The document states that the comment was factually incorrect, and that it was intended to harm Dr Nauman's professional standing.
The notice demands a public apology and formal retraction within 14 days, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated under the Defamation Ordinance 2002.
Dr Nauman has previously held positions within the Pakistan Cricket Board, and has written articles for various national and international publications.
The notice states that the comment by Shoaib reduced his professional history to a claim unsupported by evidence.
The statement is described in the legal document as part of a broader pattern of conduct that Dr Nauman alleges has continued for the past three years.
Shoaib has not issued a response to the notice as of the date of reporting.
A previous incident involving Shoaib and Dr Nauman occurred in October 2021, during a live broadcast of PTV (Pakistan Television Corporation) Sports' programme.
The panel also featured international cricket personalities including Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Sana Mir, and Umar Gul, and was focused on Pakistan's five-wicket win against New Zealand in a T20 World Cup match.

During the discussion, Shoaib credited the Pakistan Super League's Lahore Qalandars franchise for discovering fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.
Dr Nauman interrupted the exchange, stating on air that Shoaib was 'being a little rude' and added, 'If you're being over-smart then you can go. I am saying this on air.'
Following a commercial break, Shoaib apologised to the other panel members and announced his resignation from PTV Sports, stating that he could not continue due to the manner in which he had been treated on national television.
Subsequently, the PTV issued a Rs100 million recovery notice to Shoaib in relation to the incident and his resignation. Shoaib described the move as disappointing and said he would contest the matter legally.
Shoaib Akhtar clocked the fastest delivery in cricketing history at 161.3 km/h (100.23 mph) during a 2003 World Cup match versus England - a speed record that stands unbeaten.

Pakistan seeks stronger ties with Bangladesh
President Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday that Pakistan intended to forge strong bilateral relations with Bangladesh in all areas, including commerce, trade, sports, culture and people-to-people ties. Speaking at a reception hosted to Bangladesh and Pakistan Men's cricket teams at the Governor's House here on Sunday, he said the Pakistan government was trying to work together to build a stronger relationship, adding that it could not happen overnight but "we need to keep investing in people and come up with solutions to take our relations" to new heights. The Bangladesh cricket team is in Pakistan to play a three-match T20I series. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Muhammad Iqbal Hussain, BCB Operations Head Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, team officials, and members of Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket teams were present. Zardari said that Pakistan businessmen wished to collaborate with Bangladeshi businesses, adding that the Pakistani government was also interested in working with the Bangladeshi government in the long run. "We have a bright future as two nations", the president remarked. Zardari eulogised the rich history of Bangladesh and its people, adding that the Bengali nation was one of the oldest and richest nations in the region and had a proud history. He also recognised the progress made by Bangladesh over the past 50 years. "Bangladesh is a success story in the world both financially as well as in human resource capital and everybody knows. Allah has given you strength financially and in the form of manpower. "Bangladesh is destined to progress and prosper and Pakistan will contribute as much as it can," he said. Reminiscing on the shared history and pangs of separation as brothers, when the two brothers parted ways in 1971, Zardari said that the younger generation was not aware of the pain "we had gone through as the older generation", adding that we had broken each other's hearts in the past and there was a need to mend the hearts today". He stressed the need for reconciliation and mutual understanding. Recognising transformative power of cricket as a sport, which helps in uniting people throughout the world, he said: "I am happy to host you all in Pakistan, in Lahore. And I hope that there will be many such trips". Zardari also expressed the desire to visit Bangladesh, adding that he had not been to Dhaka for a long time. He fondly recalled his student days at the Cadet College Petaro and the lasting friendships he made during those days, adding that he was in contact with Bangladeshi college friends even today. President Zardari reassured the Bangladesh envoy to Pakistan of his full support in furthering the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. He hailed the Bangladesh tigers for their immense talent and wished them a great future. He also lavished praise on the young Pakistan team and expressed the hope they will do well on the international front. "The world is young, you are young and it's your time. We've seen our time, this is your time. All of you are going to see the future and I bless you and I hope that you'll have an eventful good future," President Zardari maintained.

Lionel Messi double as Miami hit five past Columbus
FORT LAUDERDALE: Lionel Messi scored twice and created two more as Inter Miami warmed up for the Club World Cup in style with a 5-1 win over the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer on Saturday. Miami will open the new FIFA tournament on June 14 against Egyptian and African champions Al Ahly and after a major dip in form they have found their touch again in their last two MLS games. A 4-2 win over Montreal in midweek, with Messi and Luis Suarez scoring two goals each, eased the tensions around Javier Mascherano's team and their renewed confidence was evident from the outset. Miami were helped by some uncharacteristically loose defending from Columbus, who have been one of the most consistent performers in MLS over the past three seasons but were easily opened up by Messi and Company. Argentine Tadeo Allende opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Messi, who had dropped deep into midfield, sent him goalwards with a long ball over the top and the forward confidently slotted home. Two minutes later, Columbus's Guatemalan goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen, standing in for the injured Patrick Schulte, then gifted Miami's second when he hesitated with the ball at his feet and passed straight to Messi, of all people, with the World Cup winner then attempting to chip him. Messi now heads off for international duty with Argentina, who have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup and are away to Chile on Thursday and host Colombia on June 10.
