Dubai on track to adopt digital currencies
Dubai is on the right track by adopting the digital currencies as the increasing number of firms taking benefits of simplifies global trade through digital coins. The recent approval of Circle Internet Group's USD Coin (USDC) and Euro Coin (EURC) as recognized crypto tokens in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is a step ahead.
This was stated by Lluis Mas, Chairman of Belobaba while talking to media in Dubai and added that 'Dubai's reputation as a global leader in blockchain and fintech adoption is strengthen as over 6,000 firms in the DIFC can now incorporate USDC and EURC into their operations which can boost confidence in digital finance by ensuring regulatory oversight.'
He further mentioned that 'many digital currencies come with a bit of instability because they are volatile and unpredictable. That's not the case with Stablecoins like USDC and EURC. These currencies have ties to stable assets, like the US dollar or the euro. This makes them more reliable than other cryptocurrencies,' he added.
He mentioned that through these tokens, one can make global payments with ease, low charges and the best part is that people can use Stablecoins for daily transactions as well.
Luis Mas mentioned that many countries now using Stablecoins, and the results are promising. 'Stablecoins provide a secure store of value for regions experiencing high inflation. In the meantime, governments are modifying their policies to take advantage of the benefits and ensure adherence.'
'As Stablecoins become more mainstream in the UAE's financial ecosystem, they can unlock new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike. By simplifying payments and encouraging innovation, Stablecoins could be the key to making Dubai a leader in global digital finance,' he said.
In case of UAE, businesses and individuals can now enjoy quicker, more secure digital transactions while it encourages foreign investments and attracts global fintech companies to set up their businesses in Dubai. This step brings the UAE closer to becoming a digital finance powerhouse, setting an example for other nations to follow.

Is it really too morbid to talk about a Will?
I often get asked by family members and friends about my role at the DIFC Courts, and when I tell them about our Wills Service, they usually ask me the same question: 'Isn't it a bit morbid to talk about a Will?' I can certainly acknowledge that in most cultures the idea of preparing for life after we're gone is a sensitive subject. Whether due to discomfort, cultural hesitation, or the simple belief that it can always wait, many people avoid the conversation altogether, and it too often becomes a conversation we never have. But when that conversation is delayed too long, it is families and loved ones who are left to deal with the consequences. Legal delays, frozen assets, and unresolved guardianship decisions are just a few of the challenges that can come up when there is no Will in place. This issue is especially relevant today as people tend to live more internationally than ever before. Many individuals and families have assets spread across borders, own businesses or properties in different jurisdictions, and are raising children in countries they did not originally call home. With this global lifestyle comes a growing need for clarity and protection. The DIFC Courts Wills Service was created to respond to exactly those needs. It provides a secure, accessible, and legally recognised solution for non-Muslims with assets in the UAE. Established as a joint initiative between the Government of Dubai and the DIFC Courts, the service gives individuals the ability to register a Will that reflects not only their personal wishes, but also their family and their legacy. Authorised under Dubai Law No. 15 of 2017, the service assures that Wills are both enforceable and aligned with the UAE's public policy considerations. This is not just about wealth, it's about responsibility. It's about putting in place clear plans that can protect the people and assets that matter most. Today, the DIFC Courts Wills Service offers six types of Wills. Individuals can register a full Will that covers all categories including, real estate, business shares, financial accounts, and digital assets. Alternatively, they may choose a more focused Will covering only one category. For example, a Digital Assets Will allows individuals to assign cryptocurrencies and other supported digital assets to beneficiaries using the DIFC Courts' non-custodial wallet. Each option is designed to be practical and secure, with the entire process available online. Registration appointments are conducted by video conference and customers can use self-generating Will templates on our website or use a lawyer to assist with drafting. Once completed, Wills can be signed electronically, making the service fully accessible for people who travel frequently or live abroad. Once registered, the Will is securely encrypted and stored in the DIFC Courts' system, with a copy provided to the individual. What makes the service even more effective is that it goes beyond registration. In the event of death, DIFC Courts have full legal power to enforce Wills and issue the required probate orders to ensure the instructions in the Will are followed. In a region where family, stability, and legacy are deeply rooted, preparing a Will is one of the most important acts of care a person can take in these times. Yet it is often seen as something only for the wealthy or elderly. That perception is changing. Across boardrooms, living rooms, and legal offices, the message is becoming clearer, preparing for the future is no longer a luxury. What was once considered a personal choice is now understood as a practical responsibility. Dubai has long positioned itself as a global hub for business, law, and innovation. The legal infrastructure here reflects that role. It supports those who are building lives and investing in the region, regardless of where they are from. The DIFC Courts' Wills Service is a key part of that infrastructure. It allows individuals to plan for the future with confidence, supported by a system that understands the realities of modern life. So, is it really too morbid to talk about a will? Whether you consider it morbid or not, preparing a Will is not simply a legal formality. It is a thoughtful step towards taking responsibility for what we leave behind. It means protecting the people we care about, honouring the life we have built, and making sure our intentions, and therefore our legacy, are clearly understood and respected.

USDC stablecoin launches on XRP Ledger
Circle's USDC stablecoin launched on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) on Thursday, bringing the overcollateralized dollar-pegged token to users of the layer-1 blockchain network. According to an announcement from Ripple, the launch of USDC on the platform will enable investors to use XRP as a bridge currency to transfer their stablecoins between decentralized exchanges (DEXs) through an auto-bridging feature. Markus Infanger, the senior vice president of RippleX added: 'Stablecoins are key entry points connecting traditional financial markets with the crypto space — essential for use cases focused on utility rather than speculation.' Support for USDC on the XRPL comes amid a concerted push to establish comprehensive stablecoin regulations in the United States, as the sector swells to over $237 billion in market capitalization with geo-strategic and macroeconomic implications. Stablecoins become the focal point of protecting US dollar salability Overcollateralized stablecoin issuers purchase short-term US Treasury bills to back their digital fiat tokens, collecting the yield from these government securities as profit. A growing number of US lawmakers and officials view stablecoins as a way to mitigate de-dollarization by foreign countries offloading US government debt due to concerns over the creditworthiness of the US government and the declining value of the US dollar. As sovereign powers dump US debt instruments, bond yields spike as investors demand higher interest payments to lend to the government. This, in turn, leads to higher debt service costs for the government, causing the $36 trillion national debt to become even more costly to maintain and further inflating the principal amount owed, creating a vicious cycle of debt monetization to pay back creditors and fund the budget. During the White House Crypto Summit on March 7, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised to prioritize stablecoin development to protect US dollar hegemony by leveraging the demand for stablecoins to increase the salability of the US dollar globally. However, critics of the fiat system like Bitcoin advocate Max Keiser say the plan to shore up declining demand for the US dollar with stablecoins will only delay the inevitable collapse of the dollar but will not save it. Stable tokens backed by gold will outcompete dollar-pegged stablecoins for several reasons, including gold's high stock-to-flow ratio, which protects its value from rapid inflation and price depreciation, according to Keiser. Shopify Launches USDC Payment Pilot via Coinbase‑Stripe Base
E‑commerce platform Shopify will launch a pilot in late June allowing select U.S. and European merchants to accept USDC stablecoin payments, marking its first native integration of crypto payments into the platform-wide setup. Developed in partnership with Coinbase and integrated through Stripe, the initiative leverages Coinbase's Base blockchain and supports essential e‑commerce features, including refunds, chargebacks and delayed payment capture. The opt‑out model means USDC acceptance will be enabled by default for participating merchants, who can also access up to 0.5 per cent cashback on USDC transactions. Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke, also a Coinbase board member, highlighted that the platform aspires to expand the pilot to all merchants across the U.S. and Europe by end‑2025. Coinbase head of blockchain Jesse Pollak described the level of integration as 'holy crap' compared to existing solutions, noting that the custom protocol built on Base addresses operational challenges previously unmet by third‑party crypto plug‑ins. Stripe's role is central in embedding stablecoin functionality into Shopify Payments, enabling merchants to receive USDC or convert funds into local currency seamlessly. ADVERTISEMENT Stablecoins such as USDC offer the stability of a dollar‑pegged asset while enabling near‑instant, low‑cost transactions via Layer‑2 networks like Base. Stripe cites a surge in monthly stablecoin payment volume from $2 billion to $6.3 billion over the past two years. Shopify's integration now brings that rail within reach of over a million merchants based in 34 countries. The e‑commerce industry's attention to stablecoins has intensified, with major financial institutions and tech companies—including Visa, PayPal, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, Apple, Meta, Airbnb and Google—either building or experimenting with stablecoin infrastructure. Shopify's entry at this scale signals a significant shift in digital commerce towards crypto‑native settlement methods. Operationally, the rollout addresses common e‑commerce pain points. The bespoke smart contract protocol supports standard payment flows—authorisation, capture, refund, tax processing and inventory reservation—aligning cryptocurrency transactions with merchant back‑end operations. Merchants can choose to receive USDC directly into their crypto wallets or automatically convert to local currency with zero foreign‑exchange fees. Additionally, U.S. customers will start receiving a 1 per cent cashback incentive on USDC payments later this year. Industry analysts suggest that embedding stablecoin capability into mainstream platforms like Shopify could accelerate global digital currency adoption. It lowers technical barriers for merchants and broadens spending options for customers holding crypto assets. While credit cards and traditional rails remain dominant, the integration demonstrates that stablecoin payments are maturing into a reliable option for commercial transactions. The pilot will effectively test merchant and consumer appetite for crypto payments on a large scale. Pending successful outcomes, Shopify plans to roll out access to all merchants using Shopify Payments across the U.S. and Europe by the end of 2025, with potential further extension globally.
