Javier Reyes hopes redemption garners call-up: 'I will make my door to the f*cking UFC'
If the door is closed and locked, Javier Reyes will bust down the wall to get into the room.
Currently the No. 1 pound-for-pound prospect according to Tapology's North American rankings, Reyes (20-4) has had over 50 fights total between amateur and professional. However, the letters U, F, and C have not appeared on his resume in sequential order.
"I'm out here for redemption after the last fight in LFA," Reyes recently told MMA Junkie through a Spanish-language interpreter. "It didn't go my way. I made a mistake. I feel good and efficient after my last fight, five or six weeks ago. The fight was real short, like a minute. I feel like I didn't even take a punch or nothing. I'm in the best shape of my life, and I'm out for redemption and to show the world why I'm Tapology's No. 1."
Reyes, 31, returns to LFA seeking redemption. The lone loss in his currently 10-1 stretch came under the LFA banner in an interim title fight vs. Lerryon Douglas in August. Reyes has picked up two consecutive wins in other promotions since then, fixated on not letting one loss define him.
"I never care," Reyes said. "You see my career. Unlike a lot of fighters and manager, who protect the kids, and don't want to take fights, I fight the toughest guys who are there. I don't care who it is. I'm coming for everybody. If UFC doesn't open up the door, I'm going to make my own door. That's a way to make doors. I take all the tough people. I'll fight anybody. I'm one of the toughest guys out there. I'm going to prove that to everybody again on Friday night. I'm the toughest guy."
There are a number of motivators for Reyes, but perhaps none more so than wanting Colombia-born representation in the UFC. While he finished his camp in Arizona with Javier Torres, Reyes mostly self-trains with a small team in Colombia – further proving his love for his country.
"I spent most of the time with Colombia," Reyes said. "I put a lot of time in here as well. But I have my own little team over there and I want to tell everybody, anything is possible. A lot of these guys leave. But sometimes, I train in the park. We train here and there and can prove to the world that even in Colombia you can do everything from your own home as well."
On Friday at LFA 208, Reyes headlines vs. Chris Mecate (10-2), a fighter who trains under Cub Swanson. Given the marquee placement and difficulty of opponent, Reyes sees this as an unofficial Dana White's Contender Series fight. The event takes place at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, Calif. and streams on UFC Fight Pass.
"I'll say one thing. I'm not just a fighter," Reyes said. "I like finishing fights. Even if in my last fight in LFA I got finished, I came to finish. I don't come to fight for a decision. I come out to finish the person, to finish the toughest guy in front of me – anybody. That's how I'm going to make my door to the f*cking UFC. I come to finish. I come to fight. I don't want a decision. I come to prove I'm the best."

Kris Moutinho returns at UFC on ESPN 69, gets undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker on short notice

Kris Moutinho returns at UFC on ESPN 69, gets undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker on short notice A fan-favorite scrapper is back in the UFC and gets a tough matchup on short notice. At UFC on ESPN 69, Kris Moutinho gets another shot in the promotion on very short notice, as he will face undefeated Malcolm Wellmaker next weekend. The event takes place on June 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. MMA Junkie confirmed the news with two sources familiar with the matchup. MMA Mania was first to report the news. Moutinho (14-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC) didn't get his hand raised during his first UFC run, but his fighting style made an impression on fans. In his debut at UFC 264, he faced former champion Sean O'Malley in an incredible Fight of the Night. Moutinho was finished in the third round, but made the most of his debut by leaving it all in the octagon. After his exit from the promotion in 2022, he took one boxing fight, and then got back on track with MMA, winning five fights in a row, all by stoppage. Wellmaker (9-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been quick to make an impression with the UFC fanbase for his finishing ability. In his appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, he finished Adam Bramhald by knockout in the first round to earn a UFC contract. In his debut in April, he knocked out Cameron Saaiman in the opening round, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. Wellmaker's sophomore appearance takes place in his home state of Georgia, where he will aim to keep his unblemished record intact. Current UFC on ESPN 69 lineup

He has got the vision to create a few meaningful openings for others around him in the final third. Alvarez is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a winger on either flank if needed. Therefore, he would be a dream option for the Reds to consider in this summer transfer window. We can expect Alvarez to add more firepower to Liverpool boss Arne Slot's attack. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club next season. At 25, Alvarez has his peak years ahead of him and could help the Reds compete for a lot of major trophies in the future. Thus, Slot would be wise to focus on getting a deal done to bring the Argentine forward to Anfield ahead of the new campaign.

Merab Dvalishvili 'focused on damage,' not antics at UFC 316 in Sean O'Malley rematch No more games for UFC champion Merab Dvalishvili. Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Merab Dvalishvili media day interview UFC 316 headliner Merab Dvalishvili spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters at media day for his bantamweight title rematch vs. Sean O'Malley on Saturday. MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Merab Dvalishvili is done playing games and being a showman. The UFC bantamweight champion assured that he'll be doing fewer antics and more damage in his title rematch with Sean O'Malley this Saturday in the main event of UFC 316 (ESPN pay-per-view), which takes place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) made plenty of headlines the first time he fought O'Malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) back in September, as he not only claimed the 135-pound UFC title, but he also did it while kissing O'Malley's back and arguing with O'Malley's corner mid-fight, among other bizarre stunts. This time around, things will be different, says Dvalishvili. "I this time I'll be more focused on the finish and more focused on damage," Dvalishvili said at Wednesday's UFC 316 media day. "The first fight it was too easy, and I was too relaxed. I saw everything and controlled everything. I did kiss him and I did make fun of him, but this time I'm going to focus more on finishing, which is what I worked on. So yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to." In his seven-year career with the UFC, Dvalishvili has picked up 12 victories, but only one of those was by finish – which was against Marlon Moraes in 2021. Dvalishvili hopes to break his decision run, but if he doesn't, he at least promises to hand out a beating. "I'm ready for a hard fight. I'm expecting the best Sean O'Malley in the best shape ever," Dvalishvili said. "Like I said before, I'm looking for a finish, but if I have to beat the sh*t out of him for five rounds, I'm ready to do that, too."
