Saudi Travellers Embrace Regional and Domestic Getaways During Eid Al-Adha, Skyscanner Data Shows
Latest search data from January to April have shown that Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and Abha were ranked among the most searched-for destinations for travel between 5–9 June, with Doha emerging as the top international choice outside of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The week commencing 21 April marked a peak search period to these destinations from [ES1] Jeddah and Riyadh, reflecting the growing interest in regional travel during the holiday season.
The growing interest to travel during Eid is reflected by a steady rise in demand compared to previous years. Data shows searches for travel during Eid rose by over 14% year-on-year in February and by 20% in March, highlighting the increasing enthusiasm amongst Saudi residents to travel during the festive break.
Short trips continue to be preferred, driven by the convenience and ease of exploring neighbouring cities. With families and individuals looking to maximise their time over the long weekend, quick and accessible destinations within Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region are proving to be the most popular.
The timing of Eid Al-Adha – also coincides just before the start of the busy summer travel period – appears to be shaping travel choices this year, especially with school terms still ongoing and holidays yet to begin.
Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner, said: 'With the Eid holidays offering a long weekend before the full summer break begins, Saudi travellers are taking advantage of the opportunity to explore destinations closer to home. Whether it's a cultural city escape within the Kingdom or a short trip to neighbouring GCC countries, travellers are prioritising ease, accessibility and memorable experiences this Eid Al-Adha.'

Lufthansa to Relaunch Riyadh–Munich Route
Lufthansa is set to expand its presence in Saudi Arabia by around 50 per cent with the relaunch of its non-stop Riyadh–Munich service from October 27, 2025. The route, last operated in 2017, will connect the Saudi capital directly to the airline's five-star Skytrax-rated Munich hub, enhancing links to Lufthansa's global network. Operating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Flight LH641 will depart Riyadh at 6.25 am, arriving in Munich at 10.25 am — offering ideal onward connections to more than 130 destinations across Europe, America, and Asia. The return service will operate on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, departing Munich at 9.45 pm and arriving in Riyadh at 4.50am the following morning. The service will be operated by the Airbus A350-900, seating 293 passengers across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. Economy return fares will start at SR1,495 ($399). This new connection complements Lufthansa's daily Riyadh–Frankfurt service and boosts total Lufthansa Group flights to Saudi Arabia to 25 per week, including operations by ITA Airways and Eurowings. Across the Middle East, the Lufthansa Group now serves the region more than 120 times weekly. Sadiq Mohamed, General Manager Sales Saudi Arabia at Lufthansa Group Airlines, said: 'Munich is one of the most popular destinations in Western Europe for many of our customers. The airport itself is a relaxing, convenient, and beautiful gateway, whether travellers are connecting onward or visiting the city and its stunning surrounding region, known for its castles and picturesque lakes near the Alps.' The renewed route comes as demand for Riyadh flights grows, supported by Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda, major global events such as Expo 2030 and the FIFA Men's World Cup 2034, and the city's ongoing economic transformation. Saudi Arabia Grants Extra 30 Days for Visit Visa
Saudi authorities have extended the grace period for visit visa holders who have overstayed, granting them an additional 30 days to leave the country, the General Directorate of Passports announced. The extension, which applies to all categories of visit visas, took effect on Sunday, July 27, and is conditional on the payment of any outstanding fines and fees in line with Saudi regulations. In a statement, the directorate said that eligible individuals can request departure through the 'Tawasul' service on the Ministry of Interior's digital 'Absher' platform. Officials urged visitors to make use of the extended window to arrange their departure within the specified timeframe and avoid further penalties. The initiative, first introduced in June, aims to streamline exit procedures and promote compliance with the kingdom's residency and immigration rules. Under the policy, which came into effect on June 26, overstayers were granted a 30-day grace period to settle fines and administrative fees before leaving the country, regardless of the type or classification of their visa. The latest extension is part of Saudi Arabia's broader effort to regulate residency and ensure smoother departure processes for visitors who remain in the kingdom beyond their visa validity.
