The film also starred Barry Bostwick and future Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, and helped introduce future rock star Meat Loaf. The film was based on the 1973 musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show, with music, book and lyrics by Richard O'Brien. The cast album to that show bubbled under the Billboard 200 in November 1974.
The film opened in the U.K. at the Rialto Theatre in London in August 1975 and in the U.S. the following month at the UA Westwood in Los Angeles. Initial response was mixed to negative, but it soon became a hit as a midnight movie, when audiences began participating with the film at the Waverly Theater in New York City in 1976.
Adler received a Grammy nomination in 1976 for producing the cast album, which was released on his Ode Records (through A&M). The album eventually reached No. 49 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. The track 'Time Warp' has become a classic.
In 2005, the film was selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry for being 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.'
Adler, 91, is an industry legend. He founded Dunhill Records in 1964, producing hits by such artists as The Mamas & The Papas and Scott McKenzie. He helped produce the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967. He signed Carole King to his Ode Records in 1970 and produced eight Gold, Platinum or multiplatinum albums by her. In 1972, he and King won Grammys for album of the year (Tapestry) and record of the year ('It's Too Late').
Adler was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 (receiving the Ahmet Ertegun Award, presented by Cheech & Chong, for whom he produced four Gold albums). He received a trustees award from the Recording Academy in 2019.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has had a long afterlife. The Rocky Horror Glee Show aired on Fox in October 2010 as part of the second season of Glee. It featured cameos by Bostwick and Meat Loaf. An EP from the show, which included 'Time Warp,' 'Damn It, Janet' and 'Sweet Transvestite,' reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
In October 2016, Fox aired a modern-day 'reimagining' of the film titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again.

Country singer calls out Georgia fans over ‘Grown men barking at me' during football season
It is almost that time of year when everyone's favorite college football teams hit the field, working to become the next national champs. The Georgia Bulldogs have dominated over the last few years, making their rivalry with Tennessee even deeper. Country singer Greylan James, born and raised a Tennessee fan, joined the Paul Finebaum show on Friday to talk about all the smack talk that he gets from his friends who are Bulldawg fans. 'I love when Fall comes around and talking crap to my buddies because there are so many Georgia fans down here,' James said on Friday. 'Even when I golf with [Georgia fans] during football season, I just can't get over the grown men barking at me. That just hits on a level that I don't understand.' James called out his friends Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean, about how hard it must be living in Nashville during football season. 'They're not just barking at you, they're winning,' he continued. 'Jason [Aldean] and Luke [Bryan] are wearing $40,000 watches while they are also, their team is just killing us. It must be painful for Georgia fans, Alabama fans, and rivals of Tennessee that they have to live in Tennessee because Nashville is here, and they have to be in our state.' Georgia holds a 29-23-1 advantage over the Vols. The Bulldawgs and the Vols are scheduled to face each other again in Week three in this upcoming season. Today's Wordle Hints And Answer Wordle Bot's Starting Word: SLATE My Starting Word Today: CRATE (54 words remaining) The Hint: Herbal. The Clue: This Wordle ends in a 'Y'. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. CRATE was a very good opening guess today, leaving me with just 54 words, though I only had one green box. SOILY was my attempt to use all new letters. I wasn't even sure this would work because I wasn't sure if SOILY was actually a word. In fact, Wordle Bot said: 'Excellent choice. soily is one of the most efficient guesses in this situation. (I'm limited to more familiar words in suggestions to readers.)' I don't think I've ever seen that from the Bot before. In any case, I chose MINTY because the rest of the words I could think of all had double letters (like FIFTY or WITTY or KITTY). Lucky for me, it was the Wordle! The Bot and I each get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying, which brings our August totals to: Erik: 4 points Wordle Bot: 3 points "Minty" comes from the noun mint (the aromatic herb, from Old English minte, from Latin mentha, from Greek minthē) plus the adjectival suffix -y, meaning 'having the qualities or flavor of.' It's been used in English since the 19th century to describe something tasting or smelling of mint. The UK's favourite royal revealed - and it's no longer Princess Kate
Since she officially joined the royal family through her marriage to Prince William in 2011, Kate Middleton, now Princess Catherine, has seen her popularity grow exponentially with every passing year. Often compared to the late Princess Diana, for her warmth and unique connection to the public, Princess Kate is undeniably one of the most loved British royals in history. You may also like Kate Middleton and Prince William's holiday body language explained Only a few months ago, in February 2025, the Princess of Wales was still in first place in terms of popularity, with her husband following behind, just as she had last year. Something has shifted in public opinion over the last couple of months, as for the first time in a while, another member of the senior royal family has taken the top spot. Prince William is now the most liked member of the British monarchy, with 74% of Brits having a favourable opinion of him. Overall, the results were good for the royals, with the majority of British people holding a positive view of the family. In the poll, 59% of people believe the monarchy is beneficial to Britain, 54% consider the royal family good value for money, and 47% say they are proud of the monarchy. Prince William's rise in popularityPrince William has always been popular with the public since he was a young boy. If, at first, it was his mother, Princess Diana's popularity that helped him conquer the public, he became an international heartthrob in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His popularity grew even further once he married his then-university girlfriend, Kate Middleton, in a grandiose wedding, and it hasn't stopped since. Last year, people saw the Prince in a new light when he had to face his wife's illness and consequently took on more royal engagements and responsibilities on his own. The public has been able to see a more personal and vulnerable side of the future King, which may have contributed to his growth in popularity, ultimately leading to him overtaking Princess Kate in the poll. Princess Anne's popularity confirmed Princess Anne has held third place in the polls for some time now, and her popularity remains unchanged, with her still securing the fictional bronze medal. The Princess Royal has often been described as an asset to the family, as well as King Charles' unofficial secret weapon and right-hand. She has always been one of the busiest working royals, but last year, especially, she took on even more engagements to allow her brother, King Charles III, time to recover after his cancer diagnosis. Tanya Curry, the chief executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, of which Anne has been patron since 2008, told HELLO!: "She's incredibly kind, and her human approach comes across. You feel as though you're talking to someone who really cares and understands." Moazzam Malik, Save the Children's chief executive, also had some warm words for the Princess Royal: "She's low-key, she's self-effacing, she doesn't want to take the limelight, but she's very committed. You can see that she cares about the state of Britain and the state of the world." The sentiment is widespread, as the Princess has never disappointed royal fans. Journalist Tina Brown wrote in her book The Palace Papers: "There are plenty in palace circles who believe she is the best king we will never have." Her sense of duty is undeniable, as she famously once said, "The idea of opting out is a non-starter", and it's easy to see why the King and Queen decide to rely on her for support when necessary, just as the late Queen Elizabeth II used to do before them.
