Red Sox star's jaw-dropping sister breaks silence on 'surreal' online fame after being spotted watching his debut

Daily Mail20 hours ago

Lia Anthony, the jaw-dropping sister of Red Sox upstart Roman Anthony, has broken her silence on her new-found fame.
Lia has entered the limelight ever since her brother's Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday, where she sat in the first row of Fenway Park for Boston's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Roman was the No 1 prospect in baseball before his call-up, with much attention being given to him as the next face of one of the most storied franchises in sports.
Lia and her family were interviewed on camera during the game, with her looks sparking the attention of the internet. Her following on Instagram has jumped from around 3,000 to over 16,000 in less than 48 hours.
'Wow, I mean it's been surreal,' Lia said to WEEI. 'It's crazy… I've gotten quite a few DMs since that night.'
'I got a couple baseball [DMs]. But it was funny, somebody said something about how they accidentally hit their baseball [in my DMs] and asked me to throw it back.'
'I think [Roman] definitely was shocked. We all were. We all were kind of in disbelief. But, I mean, he's got bigger things to focus on. So, he's just been focusing on his debut and everything. But I think we were all just shocked by it.'
Lia was at Tuesday night's game alongside mom Lori, dad Anthony Sr., and brother Tony.
It is unclear when after the second-inning interview Lia found out of her new online fame.
'Lord have mercy,' one fan said, while another added: 'What's her @? Asking for a friend...'
There was more to Lia's Tuesday night than baseball fans wanting to know more about her.
'Oh my gosh. The people were amazing,' Lia added. 'It was an incredible experience. It was actually, this is my first time in Boston, and I had never been to Fenway… [The Red Sox] brought us to meet David Ortiz. It was just an unreal experience.
'My mom especially was so touched by it, because David Ortiz had shared a couple words with her, talking about how incredible Roman is and how he'll be the face of the franchise. And it's all just so surreal to hear that, especially about your brother, who you've grown up watching and supported his whole life. I mean, the whole thing is just surreal.'

Man City outcast Kyle Walker suffers blow in pursuit of a new club as European giants opt against signing the England full back

Kyle Walker 's permanent summer move to AC Milan is off but the Manchester City captain still has no future under Pep Guardiola. The Italian giants have decided against taking up their modest option on the loan right back and his immediate future remains uncertain. Walker featured 11 times for AC Milan since moving to the San Siro in January but surprisingly won back his England place under Thomas Tuchel, criticised for his role in a friendly defeat by Senegal. The 35-year-old was not included in City's squad for the Club World Cup and could be set for another loan next season. Fenerbahce have been credited with interest. The former club captain angered supporters on Friday by claiming on his BBC podcast that he would give up one Premier League title to have won silverware with Tottenham. 'I would, if I could change it, just to say that I was in that Spurs squad that won a trophy, [the first] since 2007,' Walker said. 'I know what it means. I'd give my second (title), it's hard to give one away, but for what that moment meant (I would).' Meanwhile, City have yet to field concrete offers for another absentee in America, Jack Grealish. Mail Sport revealed in January that Tottenham were possible suitors but that could be complicated by Thomas Frank's interest in Bryan Mbeumo. Guardiola's squad trained for the first time in Florida ahead of their Club World Cup opener against Wydad AC on Wednesday. New first-team coach Kolo Toure led the session.

Chicago Cubs broadcast leaves viewers stunned as Justin Turner is seen engaging in lewd celebration

Chicago Cubs fans were stunned on Thursday night as their team's home broadcast showed Justin Turner engaging in an extremely lewd celebration. Turner, 40, did not appear in the game for Chicago but was dubbed the 'Fan of the Game' by Marquee Sports Network, as they showed a clip of him celebrating with outfielder Seiya Suzuki. But the veteran Turner's cheers were from from typical, as the infielder was actually seen wearing a pair of fake testicles as he jumped up and down. The 2020 World Series champion smiled wide as he pumped his arms in the air while wearing the bizarre item, and fans couldn't believe that Marquee aired the NSFW moment. 'I was like is the camera guy blind or did he do it on purpose,' one fan asked on X, including a laughing-crying emoji in their post. 'Broadcast got some balls to show that,' a second joked. Suzuki rounds the bases after hitting a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning 'For most men, it's the simple things,' a third added. And a fourth said: 'Did we just win it all?' According to the New York Post, broadcasters Boog Sciambi and Jim Deshaies went silent for about 30 seconds afterwards as they seemingly realized what had happened on the broadcast. Nonetheless, it was a positive night for the Cubs as they beat the Pirates 3-2 to move to 42-27 on the year. Turner, in his 17th MLB season, has played a reserve role for the red-hot Cubs this season, only appearing in 38 games. In 110 plate appearances, he's hitting .213 with 11 RBIs and one home run. The Cubs have three more games against Pittsburgh this weekend before they'll welcome the Brewers to town.

How The Simpsons has survived on TV after 35 years

Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, believes early controversy surrounding the show, including bans and backlash over risque content, ultimately benefited its popularity by making it seem "exotic" and "forbidden." Groening highlighted an incident where Bart Simpson Underachiever T-shirts were banned in schools, contributing to the show's notoriety. Groening believes The Simpsons' longevity is due to its ability to tell stories and incorporate jokes across various mediums, including comics, video games, and merchandise. Showrunner Matt Selman hopes the eventual final episode will be "a really good story about the family," avoiding a typical, sentimental series finale. Selman mentioned a spoof 'finale' in 2024 that used AI to imagine an ending, inspired by the difficulty of creating a satisfactory conclusion to the long-running series.
