By: James Wong Text Size: Let's go out and focus on securing victory to bag our first maximum points in this new season to build momentum for the next home match against Melaka FC on August 29. SABAH FC thrashed Bunga Raya 6-0 in the first leg of the FA Cup round of 16 match played at Stadium Tunku Abdul Rahman, Paroi, Negeri Sembilan on Sunday. As expected, Sabah FC ran circles around the little-known opposition, who qualified for the tie from the A1 Semi-Pro League after finishing fourth last season.
Advertisement It only took 10 minutes for Sabah FC to score the first goal through a header from Darren Lok off a cross from Daniel Ting. Fergus Tierney followed up with the second goal in the 19th minute from a delivery by Darren, and just before the interval, Miguel Cifuentes was brought down in the box. Deaxter storms to 400m gold, new meet record

Published on: Friday, August 22, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 22, 2025 By: Gerry Lewis Text Size: Deaxter's latest result confirms his rapid progress in the 400m event at both state and national school levels. PERLIS: Sabahan runner Deaxter Pius wrote his name into the record books after setting a new time in the Boys' Under-15 400 metres at the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Championships. The 15-year-old from Tambunan clocked 48.90 seconds at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium to win gold and break the long-standing meet record. Advertisement His achievement comes shortly after he set a new Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) record earlier this month with a time of 49.99 seconds. Deaxter's latest result confirms his rapid progress in the 400m event at both state and national school levels. Speaking after the race, he credited his performance to consistent training and support from those around him. 'This is the result of daily training and the encouragement of my family, coach and friends. I want to keep improving my times for Malaysia,' he said. Officials and observers described his performance as a strong indication of his potential to compete at higher levels in the future. The MSSM 2025 meet in Perlis has already highlighted several emerging talents, with Deaxter's record run standing out as one of the key results of the competition. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Ubaidullah plots to clip Brunei strikers Oliveira and Sananta

Tall order: Terengganu's Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili is still chasing consistency in his performance after three matches so far. — Terengganu FC PETALING JAYA: Terengganu defender Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili is gearing up for a stern test against dangerous Brunei strikers Miguel Oliveira and Ramadhan Sananta in their Super League clash today. The 21-year-old Ubaidullah knows the Portuguese winger Oliveira and Indonesian Sananta have the quality to punish the Turtles if they switch off at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium. 'As a defender, I know the quality that Oliveira and Ramadhan possess,' he said. 'Oliveira and Ramadhan are strong, and we cannot afford to underestimate them. After our defeat to Immigration, we've been reminded not to take any match lightly.' Terengganu are coming off a 1-2 loss to Immigration in FA Cup, a wake-up call that has underlined the need for tactical discipline and sharper defending. Terengganu started their Super League campaign on a good footing, winning their opening match 3-0 against Penang, followed by a 2-2 draw to Police last week. However, Brunei are still looking for their first win in the league after drawing 2-2 against Police in their first match, after which they fell 0-3 to Selangor. Ubaidullah warned that Brunei's hunger for a first win makes them even more dangerous but stressed that Terengganu must stay focused on their own game. 'We failed to convert our chances in our previous match against Immigration, and the defence wasn't the best. So that is something we need to fix. 'After three matches this season, I am still chasing consistency in my performance and trying to improve on the weaknesses I have,' said Ubaidullah. After returning from Brunei, Terengganu will be heading to Selangor as they take on the Red Giants on Wednesday (Aug 27), while Brunei's next match will be their second leg FA Cup fixture against Kuching on Sept 14.

Jake Paul set to face WBA Lightweight Champion Davis

Vasquez-Imagn Images/File Photo JAKE PAUL will fight the unbeaten Gervonta Davis on November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia in a bout that will be streamed live on Netflix, promoters said on Wednesday. Davis has been the WBA lightweight champion since Devin Haney vacated the belt in 2023, but the American's title will not be on the line against YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul due to the size difference between the two boxers. Advertisement Paul, a cruiserweight, weighed in at 199.4 pounds (90.45 kg) ahead of his win over Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, while Davis fought Lamont Roach at 133.8 pounds in March. No details have been provided on the weight limit for the fight. 'Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds,' Paul wrote on X. Davis is undefeated in 31 fights as a professional, winning 30 and drawing one, while Paul has a record of 12 wins and one defeat. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
