Owen Farrell joins British and Irish Lions squad in Australia after injury to Elliot Daly
Daly broke his left forearm on Wednesday in the 52-12 win over the Queensland Reds in Brisbane.
ABC Sport will have live blog coverage of the British and Irish Lions' tour of Australia this July and August.
"It is heartbreaking for the group that Elliot's tour is over," Lions coach Andy Farrell said in a statement.
"He is a Lions legend who has added so much to the group on and off the field over the past few weeks and over the course of three tours.
"Owen will now come in and add to our options and bring his own Lions experience to the group."
Farrell will join his fourth tour, having played 18 times for the Lions, including six Tests across the 2013, 2017 and 2021 tours.
However, he has not played an international since leading England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, after which he took a break from Test rugby. He earned 112 England caps and is the country's all-time points record-holder.
Farrell has not played any rugby in two months. He was concussed on May 4 while playing for Racing 92 in his last game for the French Top 14 side. He recently signed a new deal to return to his old English club, Saracens.
Tadhg Beirne will lead the Lions on Saturday against the NSW Waratahs in Sydney, returning to the second row to partner fellow Ireland lock James Ryan.
Fullback Hugo Keenan, wing Blair Kinghorn and reserve scrumhalf Ben White will make their Lions debuts.
Keenan was withdrawn from the Queensland game after falling ill, which prompted Daly's inclusion and ill luck.
Kinghorn only joined the Lions this week after helping Toulouse win the Top 14 title last weekend. White arrived this week after the tour-ending injury to Tomos Williams.
Northampton clubmates Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith are the halves and Scotland duo Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones are the centres.

Rising star Oliver Peake hits impressive fifty on Australian A debut
The national ascension of young gun Oliver Peake seems a matter of when rather than if after the teenager looked at home on Australian A debut. Peake, along with Test contenders Nathan McSweeney and Matt Renshaw, propelled Aussies to a mammoth 4-332 in the first one-day match against Sri Lanka in the Northern Territory. The 18-year-old joined McSweeney with 10 overs left in the innings and struck an unbeaten 55 from just 38 deliveries. Peake reached the boundary four times and cleared it once as he raced to a maiden Aus A half century. The U19 World Cup teammate of Test opener Sam Konstas was the fourth Aussie A player to reach fifty on Friday. Jason Sangha hit 50 off 65 balls, Renshaw 80 off 84 and McSweeney 84no from 63 balls. McSweeney (nine fours and one six) rode his luck through his innings but was ultimately too good for the Sri Lankan attack. It has been a busy week for the left-handed Peake, after he penned a deal with Big Bash League club Melbourne Renegades. He also made a half century on first-class debut for Victoria earlier this year against Western Australia at the WACA. Oliver Peake raises the bat for Victoria. (Photo by) Peake was part of Australia's tour to Sri Lanka in February learning from Test stars and batting coach Michael Di Venuto. Speaking to SEN in March, Aussie coach Andrew McDonald said Peake was a player earmarked for the future. 'There's no doubt Ollie Peake has been earmarked as a potential first-class player and has he got the potential to play international cricket? Some are saying maybe,' he said. 'We had a great opportunity, supported by Cricket Australia, to bring over a development player and (Peake) was the one we chose. 'To watch him around the group, he had Sammy Konstas there as well, it's weird to have two come out of the under-19s World Cup team in the Australian environment. 'One is competing for a spot at the top of the order and the other is on a development tour – it was a strange set up but nice for him to have a mate on tour. 'To see him go to work was exciting for us and for him to connect with Michael Di Venuto, who has done a magnificent group with the batting group, I think that early point of contact is important to understand how we view cricket. 'Hopefully that spreads the word and helps shape him in some way.' Friday's match was the first of three one-day matches against Sri Lanka before two four-day matches round out the Northern Territory tour. AFL 2025: Richmond defender Josh Gibcus will return, while another Tiger will be unleashed on full minutes
Richmond defender Josh Gibcus will pull on the jumper for the first time in nearly 500 days when he returns to action through the VFL. Gibcus has had a difficult 18 months after sustaining an ACL rupture in the Tigers' second game of 2024. Prior to that injury, the promising key back had a series of hamstring troubles which he sought treatment for overseas. He will make his long-awaited return this weekend in Richmond's reserves against Geelong on Sunday. 'Yeah he's (Gibcus) playing some VFL footy which is awesome, he's been chomping at the bit for the last few weeks,' Richmond coach Adem Yze said. Richmond defender Josh Gibcus (R) will make his long awaited return through the VFL this Sunday. Picture: David Caird 'He's finally got that opportunity, a big smile comes on my face when you say his name and I can't wait. 'They obviously play the next day so there will be a heap of staff staying down to be there and support him through it. 'We can't wait to see him out there.' The Tigers will be without the experience of Tom Lynch in the senior side on Saturday but have some promising inclusions to the twos. Jayden Short will accompany Gibcus in returning from injury and, according to Yze, will play 70 to 80 per cent game time before being available next week. The Tigers will also look to 'unleash' untried draftee Taj Hotton, who has built steadily from ACL recovery in recent weeks. 'It's a bit about everything, really, we've got to make sure he's (Hotton) ready to play AFL footy and not just play, he's got to perform and be ready to perform,' Yze said. (Photo by Michael Willson/AFL Photos via Getty Images) 'Last week was his first full game, it was still managed minutes or managed rotations, so he's played 80 per cent game time at VFL. 'This week we'll let him go, we'll unleash him, he gets to play as much game time as he can. 'Then it's around recovery and how he pulls up, we've got eight games to go and we've got make sure when he comes in we want him to stay in. 'We've got to make sure he's pulling up OK, give him the best chance – he's obviously a highly talented guy but we've got to set him up the right way.' Stuart Kendrick confident Redford can bowl out Warnie in Glasshouse Handicap at Sunshine Coast
He's the $1m gelding who must bowl over warm favourite Warnie to win the $300,000 Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m), although trainer Stuart Kendrick is quietly confident Redford can put his rivals in a spin on his home track on Saturday. Bookmakers have rated four-year-old gelding Redford as a $16 chance in the Glasshouse, with the Ciaron Maher -trained Warnie the $2.90 favourite ahead of cult gelding The Inflictor ($4.80) and soft-track specialist Far Too Easy ($7.50). • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'If he can find his feet, get a little bit of space and then wind up, that's when he's at his best,' Sunshine Coast trainer Kendrick said on Friday about Redford. 'He's got a good record here (3:2-1-0) and I think the track suits him. He's not an overly big horse so a drop in the weights is definitely going to help us. 'With the awkward gate (11 of 13) he'll probably go back and with a light weight, it gives him a chance to really hit the line strongly.' Kendrick is wary about quality import Warnie, a Listed winner in Ireland, who he thinks will also be suited to the spacious Sunshine Coast track, which is likely to be in the Soft 6 range on Saturday. 'He looked out of his comfort zone at Ipswich the other day (fifth in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1350m) and this track will suit him where he can find his feet, wind up and have the last crack at them,' Kendrick said. 'Going on his run two races ago (third in the Group 2 Moreton Cup over 1200m at Eagle Farm), he's probably the one to beat.' TFI Racing paid just over $1m for Redford, part of the Arrowfield Stud draft, at the 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast and he was initially trained by Annabel Neasham. Kendrick and several others, including his wife Trudy, took over the ownership last year and Redford won his first race for his new trainer last September in a Benchmark 60 (1300m) at Corbould Park. The highlight so far came in January this year when Redford upset odds-on favourite Moravia to win the $250,000 Magic Millions Rising Stars (3YO, 4YO colts and geldings division) at the Sunshine Coast. 'He was quite an expensive yearling but he's been good for us since we've had him,' Kendrick said. 'Hopefully he can do something big for us tomorrow (Saturday), that'd be nice.'
