Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
Speaking to US actress Parker Posey for Variety's Actors On Actors series, she said: 'It (the series) was fun the whole time, because we had fun, the cast had fun.
'It was like a collaboration with the writers, because they were so great and nice and good.
'But me being Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being that it was work.
'I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work.
'And I remember like season two or three, and I was just doing it, and went, 'Oh my god, I'm not doing the work. I don't know if this is going as well. I'm not doing the work'.
'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. You don't have to do it anymore'.'
Alongside her role in Friends, Kudrow is known for starring in a number of TV series as well as comedy films Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite Of Sex.
In 2023 she thanked her late co-star Perry for 'the best 10 years a person gets to have' while filming Friends in a tribute following his death at the age of 54.
During their conversation, Posey, who has starred in films including Dazed And Confused and Superman Returns, spoke about one of her more recent roles playing a southern woman called Victoria Ratliff in season three of Mike White's dark comedy, The White Lotus.
She said: 'It was such a gift to have this middle-aged woman at this time in my life, in my career, to be the southern woman.
'I was reading Tennessee Williams in junior high and high school and southern writers and all of this. So I was like, I just ate it up.'

Now, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has slammed the duchess for trying to "wash her reputation" with her new show. The trailer sees Meghan cooking and baking alongside a number of celebrity guests in her swanky Montecito home. Kinsey told The Sun: "Meghan has a reputation for being ugly and a bully to some of her staff. However, Kinsey says the show seems "so staged", focusing on how a member of the filming crew can be overhead saying "right on cue" at the start of the trailer. They had secured a lucrative five-year contract - thought to be worth more than $100 million (£74 million) - with Netflix after quitting as senior working royals in 2020. However, this new deal has been signed for "much less", an insider told Page Six. Aniston mourning Perry 'for a long time' before death
Jennifer Aniston has said that, due to his struggles with addiction, it felt like she was mourning her Friends co-star Matthew Perry "for a long time" before his death. Perry, who was one of the most familiar faces on television, died aged 54 from the "acute effects of ketamine" in October 2023, according to a post-mortem examination. While Perry's on-screen character Chandler Bing brought joy to many, he had spoken candidly about his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction when filming the series. Speaking about his addiction, Aniston told US magazine Vanity Fair: "We did everything we could when we could. "But it almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. "As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better. I'm glad he's out of that pain." The actress played Rachel Green in the hit US sitcom, which also starred Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc. Aniston said: "What helped raise me is something I got to put into the world and help other people. If (Friends) was the only thing on my resume, I would be very happy and blessed." A post-mortem report summary said Perry was receiving "ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety", with his last known treatment one-and-a-half weeks prior to his death. The medical examiner ruled that "the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy", but was not able to specify the "exact method of intake" in Perry's case. A woman charged with selling Perry the dose of ketamine that killed him is headed for a September trial. Jasveen Sangha, who prosecutors say was known to her customers as the Ketamine Queen, is charged with five counts of ketamine distribution, including one count of distribution resulting in death. The Morning Show star Aniston also spoke to the magazine about the media frenzy she faced in the 2000s, a time when her high-profile relationship with Brad Pitt hit the headlines, particularly amid their divorce in 2005. Aniston said: "It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas, they had their tabloids. "It's a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally." She added: "I didn't have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it. We're human beings, even though some people don't want to believe we are. "They think, You signed up for it, so you take it. But we really didn't sign up for that." A man was recently charged with stalking Aniston and crashing his car through the front gate of her home, but a judge ruled he was mentally incompetent to stand trial. Referencing this, Aniston said: "People are out of their minds. Who wants to put that energy out there." She added that her security team is "not glamorous in any way. It's a necessity".

Tributes pour in as iconic rock star dies aged 77
He was best known for his work with legendary musicians such as Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Bobby Whitlock, iconic singer-keyboardist and co-founder of 70s blues-rock band Derek and the Dominos alongside Eric Clapton, has died aged 77. His manager, Carol Kaye, confirmed the news to Variety. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 18, 1948, Whitlock was signed to Stax Records at an early age and played with artists like Booker T. and the MG's and Sam & Dave. He later became an integral member of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, meeting Clapton while his band opened Clapton's supergroup Blind Faith. Following the release of Delaney & Bonnie's live album On Tour with Eric Clapton in 1970, Whitlock was invited to reunite with Clapton on his debut solo album and to accompany George Harrison in the studio for All Things Must Pass. Accompanied by Carl Radle and Jim Gordon, Clapton and Whitlock started Derek and the Dominos as a blues-rock group, releasing their 1971 double LP Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, widely considered to be one of rock's greatest albums. Speaking to Best Classic Bands in 2015, Whitlock commented on the supergroup's early breakup by calling it 'lightning in a bottle'. 'We did one club tour, we did one photo session, then we did a tour of a bit larger venues,' he continued. 'Then we did one studio album in Miami. We did one American tour. Then we did one failed attempt at a second album. 'Everybody was doing entirely too much drugs and alcohol,' he admitted at the time, while also recognising that Drek and the Dominoes were 'the very best band on the planet… We were better than anybody.' Following the band's breakup, Whitlock went on to release a string of studio albums in the 70s, including a self-titled record in 1972, which included all the members of the recently split group. He also made an uncredited appearance on the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street, and has claimed to have been cheated out of a co-writing credit for the song 'I Just Want to See His Face'. He also appeared as a guest musician on self-titled albums by Clapton and Doris Troy, Dr. John's The Sun, Moon & Herbs and Stephen Stills & Manassas' Down the Road. In 2024, Whitlock was awarded a Brass Music Note on Memphis' own Beale Street Walk of Fame for his work.
