Imran Khan's sons meet Trump aide to launch US campaign for father's release
The brothers made a bold public debut in May, highlighting their father's imprisonment since August 2023 at Pakistan's Adiala Jail.
Serving a sentence related to a £190 million corruption conviction, Imran Khan is also facing ongoing trials under the Anti‑Terrorism Act linked to the May 9, 2023, protests.
In a photo shared on X, Richard Grenell stood alongside the Khans and U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom Vice Chairman Dr Asif Mahmood. Grenell issued a rallying message: 'Stay strong… millions around the world are sick of political prosecutions. You are not alone.'
Mahmood expressed admiration for the brothers' determination and praised Grenell's support, calling it a stand for justice and principle .
In a previous May interview, Sulaiman and Kasim revealed they had 'exhausted' legal and diplomatic channels, alleging their father was held in 'complete isolation' in a cell likened to those used for death row inmates, without access to lawyers or doctors . They appealed directly to high‑profile figures, especially former U.S. President Donald Trump, to generate global pressure in support of Imran Khan's basic human rights .
The siblings are now focusing on a campaign to confront what they describe as a suppressive wave against dissent in Pakistan.
Their U.S. launch is expected to coincide with a planned protest movement in Pakistan scheduled for early August, marking the second year since Imran Khan's arrest.
Although Pakistani officials have not formally reacted, Barrister Aqeel Malik, the Minister of State for Law and Justice, noted that Article 16 of Pakistan's constitution does not extend to foreigners, and that violating visa rules could lead to consequences.
Meanwhile, political voices within the ruling PML‑N are split over whether the Khans should be allowed to return to Pakistan.

Pakistan says it's close to US trade deal, Washington gives no timeline
WASHINGTON: Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday the United States and Pakistan were 'very close' to a trade deal that could come within days, but comments from the U.S. after Dar met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned no timeline. 'I think we are very close to finalizing a deal with US. Our teams have been here in Washington, discussing, having virtual meetings and a committee has been tasked by the prime minister to fine-tune now,' Dar said in a discussion at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington. 'It's not going to be months, not even weeks, I would say (just) days,' he said. Under US President Donald Trump, Washington has attempted to renegotiate trade agreements with many countries that he threatened with tariffs over what he calls unfair trade relations. Many economists dispute Trump's characterization. The US State Department and Pakistan's foreign ministry, in separate statements after Rubio's meeting with Dar, said the two stressed in their discussion the importance of expanding trade and ties in critical minerals and mining. A post by Rubio on X after the meeting and the State Department's statement mentioned no timeline for finalizing a trade deal. The Pakistan foreign ministry also said Dar 'appreciated the pivotal role' by Trump and Rubio 'in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India by facilitating a ceasefire.' The State Department statement did not mention India. Trump has repeatedly taken credit for the India-Pakistan ceasefire he announced on social media on May 10 after Washington held talks with both sides. India disputes Trump's claims that the ceasefire resulted from his intervention and trade threats. India's position is that New Delhi and Islamabad must resolve problems directly with no outside involvement.

PM Shehbaz approves first-ever ‘Skills Impact Bond'
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved the country's first-ever Skills Impact Bond, a performance-based financing model aimed at equipping the country's youth with employable, demand-driven skills to enhance their participation in national and global labour markets. The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by the prime minister on the youth employment roadmap. The Skills Impact Bond, based on a 'Pay-for-Success' mechanism, will attract private sector investment for skill development, with public or donor funds disbursed only upon achievement of independently verified outcomes such as job placements or income thresholds. PM Shehbaz directs modern IT training for youth to make Pakistan regional tech hub Highlighting the centrality of youth in Pakistan's economic development strategy, Sharif directed officials to enhance training opportunities in modern and market-aligned skill sets. 'Pakistan's talented youth are the country's most valuable asset,' he said, adding that providing quality education and employable skills would change the country's destiny. The prime minister stressed the need to prepare skilled individuals for overseas employment, including through training in local languages of potential destination countries. He instructed that a detailed roadmap, based on estimated job opportunities both domestically and internationally, be submitted for review. 'I will personally assess progress every two months,' he added. Sharif also called for a targeted awareness campaign to inform the masses, particularly the youth, about employment opportunities available through the government's Digital Youth Hub platform. Officials informed the meeting that more than 500,000 individuals have registered on the Digital Youth Hub, while over 1.7 million have downloaded the mobile application. The platform currently lists over 47,000 domestic job vacancies, 100,000 overseas opportunities, and more than 2,000 scholarships. Additionally, over 500 institutions – including Pakistani embassies, private companies, government agencies, and international NGOs such as the United Nations – are linked to the portal. The performance of relevant departments, including the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), was reviewed and termed satisfactory by the prime minister. He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration among these institutions to ensure tangible outcomes. The meeting also discussed annual employment estimates under the youth programme, which aims to promote self-sufficiency, entrepreneurship, and direct employment through targeted interventions. Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Attaullah Tarar, Chairman of the Prime Minister's Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, MNA Amna Batool, and senior government officials attended the meeting. IK summoned on 30th: Non-bailable arrest warrants of Shibli issued
LAHORE: A city magistrate on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz and summoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan also on July 30 in a case of attack on Islamabad police outside Zaman Park. The magistrate in his decision noted that Senator Faraz failed to appear before the court, therefore, 'he be summoned through non-bailable warrant of arrest.' Racecourse police had registered the case in 2023. An Islamabad police team had visited the Zaman Park residence of Imran Khan for the service of a court's summon.
