In this trade target series, we examined Brock Nelson yesterday. Today, we will shift our focus to defense and examine how well Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres would fit.

The Sabres are last in the Eastern Conference with 53 points in 56 games. This is despite a 7-3-0 record in their last 10 games and a two-game winning streak.
The Sabres' blueline is crowded, with eight defenders currently signed to NHL deals. Mattias Samuelsson, Owen Power, and Rasmus Dahlin are all locked in long term. This could make Byram available to the proper suitor.
Byram is a fantastic skater who isn't even in the prime of his career yet. He can play a lot of minutes in many different situations. This season, he averages 1:15 on the powerplay and 1:57 on the penalty kill per game. His two-way play would be a great addition to any team.

He has spent 70 percent of his ice time with either Power or Dahlin. His ability to play the right side as a left-handed player makes him very versatile, which coaches certainly value.
Absolutely, yes. He is at the perfect age to acquire and could be a mainstay for years to come. His acquisition could allow the Red Wings to take their time with other defense prospects to better develop their potential.
His easily digestible cap hit and abilities on the ice make him a perfect candidate to be a long-term blueline solution for the Red Wings. However, my only reservation with a Byram acquisition would be his injury history. He has had concussions multiple times in his very young career. In my opinion, that is the only reason to second-guess a Byram deal for the Red Wings.

Some called her "trash" while others said she should just enjoy being the daughter of billionaires. There were other nasty comments as well. "You sold this match on purpose," one person wrote. "Can't wait until Karma spends the block back on you. Hopefully your first born child will be a still birth." Pegula added that "every person" on the Women's Tennis Association deals with some type of awful remark. "I get told my family should get cancer and die from people here on a regular basis. Absolutely crazy," she added. "I've seen stories of comments/threats/stalking making headlines in other sports…well news flash tennis I can guarantee it's 100 times worse. The comments are nonstop for us. Win or lose – it's whatever they bet on. "I actually had threats come through the NHL that they were worried about and sent to me. My response was, 'oh that's it? I get those all the time' that is so messed up that that is my response. Normalizing death threats!" Pegula added that staying off social media was unavoidable because most of their sponsorship deals involve posting on their platforms. Pro tennis players Arthur Bouquier and Caroline Garcia also shared threats they've received in recent years. New survey finds Pittsburgh among the best cities in the U.S. for hockey fans
The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't been in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2022, but according to a new survey, that hasn't lessened the enthusiasm Pittsburghers have for hockey. Despite not having the same level of popularity as the NFL, NBA, or MLB, the NHL is still growing, with a revenue of more than $6 billion this past season. WalletHub's latest survey found that Pittsburgh is the third-best city in America for hockey fans. "The Penguins are an extremely popular team, and they have the most engaged fanbase of any team when it comes to followers on social media, as well as the highest share of people who have a positive opinion of them," the survey stated. Ahead of Pittsburgh, coming in first was Boston, and in second was Detroit. "The Boston Bruins are the second-most valuable NHL team, worth $2.7 billion, and they have the third-most engaged fans on social media," the survey said. As for Detroit, the survey found that the Red Wings are the sixth-most valuable team in the league with the sixth-most engaged fans on social media. Along with team value and social media activity, the survey looked at franchise success on the ice as well as collegiate hockey in the region. The Penguins' five Stanley Cup championships are tied for fifth all-time in the NHL behind only five of the Original Six franchises, the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, and Chicago Blackhawks. Here in Pittsburgh, we have the Robert Morris Colonials, which boasts some of the most affordable NCAA Hockey tickets in the nation at $150 for season tickets. Just behind Pittsburgh is New York City and the Penguins' long-time, in-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers, clocked in at 12th in WalletHub's survey. If the Red Wings want to deploy a defender as an offensive weapon, they have a prospect who can fill the role better than DeAngelo can. These available defenders are either too old or don't move the needle in a meaningful capacity to warrant an NHL contract. They might be helpful for other teams, but they aren't the right fit for the Red Wings. Yzerman, grab your shades, these shiny objects aren't worth it.
