Logano responds to criticism from Hall of Famer, asks 'Has Chipper Jones ever driven a race car?'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Joey Logano wondered Tuesday if Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones had ever driven a race car at Talladega after the former Atlanta Braves slugger criticized the NASCAR champion in a series of social media posts.
Jones was defending Austin Cindric, winner of Sunday's race at Talladega Superspeedway, after Team Penske teammate Logano unleashed an expletive-laden rant about Cindric around the halfway mark of the race. Logano was furious he did not receive the help he needed from Cindric, which allowed rival Toyota driver Bubba Wallace to win the second stage and earn valuable bonus points.
'Way to go Austin. Way to go. You dumb (expletive). Way to (expletive) go," Logano said on his team radio. "What a stupid (expletive). He just gave it to him. Gave Toyota a stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What the (expletive).'
Jones was angered by Logano's rant and in six social media posts congratulated Cindric, called Logano selfish and celebrated Logano being disqualified for failing postrace inspection.
'Good teammates are hard to come by, Boss! Remember that one of urs MFed u on national tv, when in all actuality, u did everything possible to keep from wrecking him,' Jones wrote. 'Some people are 'hooray for our team as long as I'm the star' as every team has them. Hendrick, RCR, JGR, Penske, etc. Sometimes karma is glorious.'
When told of Jones' comments on a Tuesday appearance of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's 'The Morning Drive," Logano said he was unaware of them. Once he was told, Logano asked: 'Has Chipper Jones ever driven a race car at Talladega? That would be my first question. I'm pretty certain he hasn't.
'That's like me saying something about baseball. I know nothing about baseball. That's like me saying something that he did something in baseball that was wrong. That doesn't matter."
Logano continued by saying that as a former professional athlete, Jones should understand there was more to the situation than what he saw on television. Jones grew up outside Daytona International Speedway and was once the grand marshal for the Daytona 500.
'Chipper Jones, he seems like a cool dude, he's done a lot, right? He's a pretty popular, good baseball player, but he's not a race car driver, and I know he wasn't in the room with us when we set in place the way things are supposed to go,' Logano said. "You would think somebody that has been in professional sports and has been in meetings like that would probably take a step back and say, 'Man, there's probably more to the story here than what there is.' I'm surprised it went that way. Maybe he was just bored. I don't know what his situation is. I tell you I don't care.'
Logano said he and Cindric cleared the air in Penske's Monday meeting.
'Austin and I talked about it. We've got to move forward. That's what it is," he said. "I explained my side. He understood. We move on. There's no sense in airing our dirty laundry and airing out what the actual rules are because that's private information that doesn't need to be out to everybody. But the facts are that what we set in place wasn't happening and that's why I got frustrated. Like I said, we talked about it and we moved on.'
Logano did acknowledge that he probably should not have hit the radio button and 'spouted off so much.'
'Probably blew up into a little bigger situation than it needed to, but the conversation, either way, needed to happen. Just more people are talking about it now,' he added.

2026 Toyota bZ Pricing Starts More than $2000 Below 2025 Version

Toyota announced pricing for the 2026 lineup, which cuts $2170 off the base price of last year's car. The 2026 lineup starts at $36,350 for the base trim and extends up to $46,750 for the Limited AWD trim at the top of the range. Toyota reworked the bZ for 2026, with changes highlighted by increased power and significantly improved range. Maybe customers thought "bZ4X" had too many syllables, and that led to Toyota chopping off the latter two—but, whatever the reason, Toyota has opted to rename its electric crossover to simply "bZ" for the 2026 model year. And the automaker went with a smaller price to go along with the shorter name—at least for the bottom half of the lineup. For the base trim, the 2026 bZ cuts $2170 off the price when compared with the 2025 model. That brings the starting price for the front-drive XLE to $36,350 when it's equipped with the standard battery. Upgrading from the standard 57.7-kWh pack to the XLE Plus with its 74.7-kWh pack increases that figure by $3000, while adding AWD tacks on another $2000, bringing the XLE AWD to $41,350. Unfortunately, the Limited models don't offer the same olive branch as the XLEs. At the upper end of the lineup, the front-drive Limited trim nets a $44,750 starting price, making it $1500 more than the 2025 equivalent. Adding AWD means coughing up an additional $2000, bringing the Limited AWD to $46,750. Along with changing the name, Toyota made a whole slew of changes to the bZ. All the trims come equipped with an onboard NACS charging port, giving access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Thanks to updated batteries and new electric motors, range and power are up for nearly every trim as well. The front-drive XLE Plus gets the largest rating of the bZ lineup at 314 miles, while the base XLE is forced to contend with a smaller battery and earns the worst estimate of the bunch at 236 miles. Toyota Finally Confirms Small Truck Maverick Rival — ‘Not If, But When'

Toyota Finally Confirms Small Truck Maverick Rival — 'Not If, But When' originally appeared on Autoblog. Toyota's Small Pickup Truck Is In The Pipeline Toyota will launch a small pickup truck aimed at the likes of the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick, replacing the Tacoma as the brand's new entry point to its pickup lineup. The small truck, which will fit in under the Tacoma, will be a smaller alternative brought to production just about as soon as Toyota can: "Decisions have been made," said Cooper Ericksen, Toyota Motor North America's head of planning and strategy. The question is when we can slot it in. It's not a matter of 'if' at this point. Cooper Ericksen, Toyota Motor North America, Head of Planning and Strategy Speaking to MotorTrend, Ericksen confirmed development of the as-yet-unnamed small truck. The automaker has watched the segment grow since the Maverick and the Santa Cruz debuted in 2021. Since then, the popularity of these small, affordable trucks has ballooned. Toyota told the outlet it estimates it could sell between 100,000 and 150,000 units annually in the US alone. Toyota Is Behind The Ball While Shoppers Think Small Toyota hesitated, and whether that was the right or wrong decision remains to be seen. However, the effect that decision is having today is pretty clear: Ford sold 131,142 Mavericks last year, and Hyundai cleared 32,033 Santa Cruz sales, while Toyota sat on the sidelines. The brand used to be a default for shoppers seeking a sensible, affordable small truck, but the Tacoma ballooned in size and price alongside other midsize competitors. It's easy to see why shoppers may be interested in smaller, more affordable cars. Even wealthy buyers are looking at more affordable cars as costs skyrocket amid tariff negotiations and supply chain disruptions. American buyers are seeking small, affordable cars with excellent tech, and while Toyota caters to that demand in other places, it has yet to offer something as small as the Maverick. Toyota Confirms Its Small Truck Will Be Unibody Ericksen confirmed that Toyota's small truck will use unibody construction as opposed to the traditional body-on-frame construction used in many larger trucks. Hyundai also employs unibody construction in its Santa Cruz. The truck's frame consists of a single piece onto which body panels are placed, while a body-on-frame truck consists of a rolling chassis that is mated to a vehicle body. Toyota should offer a hybrid powertrain, like the Maverick, and we expect the truck will share some similarities with other small unibody Toyota products, like the RAV4 and Corolla. We're also looking to Toyota to cater to demands from the off-road crowd with some TRD-branded options in the lineup, in addition to an affordable base price. However, Toyota's late to the party on this one, so don't expect to see the small truck for another several years.
