Mobland Season 2: Fans Finally Have An Answer About The Future Of The Show
MobLand fans have finally been given the update they've been waiting weeks for.
On Monday evening, Paramount+ confirmed that they were renewing the crime drama for a new batch of episodes, meaning a second season is officially in the works.
The weekly 10-part series premiered in March, and features an impressive cast led by Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren.
Chris McCarthy, an exec at Paramount, enthused: 'With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph – driven by the creative brilliance of Guy [Ritchie], Jez [Butterworth], Ronan [Bennett] and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen.
'We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to number one in the UK.'
As MobLand's audience grew over the weeks that season one was streaming, it quickly became one of Paramount+'s most talked-about originals, with its premiere episode pulling in the platform's highest ever viewing figures.
It was executive produced by Guy Ritchie, whose recent forays into TV have included Netflix's The Gentlemen and the upcoming origin story Young Sherlock, based on his movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
Tom Hardy previously shared his hopes that MobLand would be renewed during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in April, claiming: 'The plan is definitely to see more seasons. The question is: Does it become international?'
He continued: 'There are international elements to organised crime, which are touched on in season one and the control of drugs and ammunition and weapons and people and all kinds of things that go through Europe and from Africa through to South America, Pakistan and the variable commodities that move around Europe.
'There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kind of commodities through and who polices that and how that fits into a world stage.
Meanwhile, former James Bond star Pierce recently spoke out about one of the show's most polarising details – his Irish accent.

The Director of Marvel's ‘X-Men' Movie Just Got Confirmed in the Most Roundabout Way
A new X-Men movie is coming. This much we know to be true. Jake Schreier, director of Marvel's recent film Thunderbolts, is also expected to be directing it. That had yet to be officially confirmed, but io9—and one of Schreier's fellow Marvel directors— both agree that it's true. Speaking to Metro Entertainment about his new show Ironheart, executive producer Ryan Coogler (who also, of course, directed both Black Panther movies) shut down rumors that he could direct a new X-Men movie because 'Jake is directing that.' Jake, as in Jake Schreier, who was in early talks last month. io9 reached out to Marvel about Schreier's involvement, and a spokesperson confirmed the news. Jake Schreier is directing X-Men. And while both we and Coogler have confirmed the X-Men director, someone should tell Schreier. Speaking at a film festival in Malta, reported on by Collider, Schreier was asked if he was directing X-Men and he would not 'fess up. 'Even if I were confirmed on that movie, I don't think I would be allowed to answer that question,' he said. 'I guess what I would say is that it always starts from character and working with great writers and collaborators, and certainly thinking about how to do something different with any project that you take on. That's as much as I can say.' Well, Jake, we'll say it just like Ryan said it. You're directing X-Men. At least for now. There's always the chance things could change before the film goes in front of cameras. And, it might be a good long while before that happens. Marvel is currently in production on only one film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to come out next December. Because of that, the studio is not doing a major panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, which is where news on X-Men could be broken. Will we have to wait a year for more information? That seems possible. But in that time, we now know Schreier is on the case. Want more io9 news? Check out when to expect the latest Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, what's next for the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the future of Doctor Who.

Paramount Plus with Showtime is getting a rebrand
'Paramount Plus with Showtime' has always been one of the more awkward bits of branding to come out of the streaming era, but soon subscribers will know the tier by another name. This week Paramount informed Paramount Plus subscribers that Paramount Plus with Showtime — the platform's most expensive tier that features Showtime programming and minimal ads — will now be referred to as 'Paramount Plus Premium.' The renamed tier will still cost $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year. Paramount Plus Premium will also still offer Showtime's series and catalog of films, but it won't feature the TV network's name. 'Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers,' Paramount said in a support post about the new tier name. 'Showtime programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!' The clunkiness of the 'Paramount Plus with Showtime' branding felt like a reflection of the rockiness that marked Showtime's integration into Paramount Plus and the subsequent shutdown of Showtime's standalone streaming service. Paramount executives warned employees about potential layoffs after CEO Bob Bakish first announced plans for a merger with Showtime back in 2023. Several Showtime series were cancelled or halted as a result of the deal, and by the following year, the new service had already gone through two price hikes. As strong as the Showtime brand is, 'Paramount Plus Premium' is definitely a better name. That said, coming so soon after Warner Bros. Discovery's recent decision to pivot back to HBO Max, Paramount's latest move feels very much like a response to the competition. None of us ever called it 'Max, the one to watch,' and WBD was right to stop trying to make that happen. But it's a little wild to see Paramount downplaying its connection to one of the networks that really helped bring cable TV into its own.
