Chennai police arrest drug racket ‘kingpin' nabbed in Delhi
CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Police on Saturday arrested an African national, T Abouf (39) and his local associate J Rahul (19) in a drug trafficking case in Delhi. A total of 15 gms of cocaine, 7 gms of heroin, 3 gms of methamphetamine and a sum of Rs 50,000 were seized from them.
Police had, in March and April, arrested 11 people in Chennai for the possession of narcotics, and Abouf is the alleged kingpin of the drug smuggling network. Abouf and Rahul were produced before a Delhi court, and then brought to Chennai.
It may be noted that the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit, along with Anna Salai police, conducted a surveillance-based operation on March 9. Five persons were nabbed and 23 gms of methamphetamine, 5.3 gms of OG-grade ganja, 2.6 gms of MDMA-based painkillers, a sum of Rs 1,67,600 and two digital weighing scales were seized.
Another suspect was arrested a few days later. Police also arrested five foreign nationals in April in Chennai and seized six gms of methamphetamine, 250 gms of ganja, a sum of Rs 3,500, four laptops and two weighing scales from them. The accused were allegedly linked to a broader trafficking network with international connections.
Based on the information gathered during the two operations, Abouf and Rahul were nabbed in Delhi.

JE caught while taking bribe
Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a contractor for clearing pending bills in Bargarh district on Tuesday, a Vigilance official said. Junior Engineer Susmita Oram had joined the government service under the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Bargarh, at Gaisilet block in January 2024. This was her first posting, the officer said. The JE has been apprehended by the Odisha Vigilance official while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the contractor (complainant) as the last instalment of her overall demand of bribe of Rs 32,000 for measurement and clearing pending bill in connection with the road improvement work under MGNREGA, he said. The estimated cost of the work is Rs 9.50 lakh, out of which, bills worth Rs 3.15 lakh had been paid earlier, he said. The official further said the JE was demanding a bribe of 10 per cent of the paid bill amount to clear pending bills. Out of the total demanded amount Rs 32,000, she had earlier taken Rs 24,000 a few days back and was demanding the remaining amount of Rs 8,000 to clear the rest bill. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the JE and seized, he said. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to the JE. A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is in progress, Vigilance sources said.

Three arrested in Rs 2.5-cr digital arrest scam busted by Chandigarh Police
The Cyber Crime Cell of Chandigarh has arrested three accused allegedly involved in a digital fraud case of Rs 2.5 crore. According to the police, the arrests were made in connection with an FIR, which was registered on June 1, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The victim, Sumit Kaur of Sector 10A, Chandigarh, was targeted on May 3, through a sophisticated scam, police said. She received a phone call allegedly from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), warning of misuse of her SIM card and an FIR against her. The caller was followed by WhatsApp video calls from individuals impersonating senior law enforcement officials, including a DIG CBI and even a justice of the Supreme Court. Using forged arrest warrants and high-pressure tactics, the scammers coerced Kaur into transferring her life savings — amounting to Rs 2.5 crores — into various fraudulently operated bank accounts for verification to clear her name, police said. A comprehensive investigation involving digital forensics, mobile CDR analysis, KYC scrutiny, and IP tracking led police teams to multiple states. Police said that the raids were conducted at Hathras and Agra (UP) on June 6, leading to the arrests of Dharmendra Singh (28) and Ram Kisan Singh alias Ramu (36). Both had knowingly opened and rented out bank accounts used in the scam, said Police. The police team also conducted a raid at Budhanpur, Saharanpur (UP) on June 8, resulting in the arrest of Sakib (24), who confessed to opening a shell firm and account, allowing his brother-in-law and others to use them in exchange for a 10 percent cut from fraudulent transactions. During the interrogation, all accused admitted to their roles in the scam and revealed the involvement of more suspects, a police official said. Police custody has been obtained for further questioning and investigation. DSP (Cyber Cell) A Venkatesh said the cybercrime team is actively working to identify and apprehend other members of the network.

Sonam offered Rs 20L for murder, helped push body into gorge: Sources
Lucknow: A day after the murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi took a dramatic turn with the arrest of his wife Sonam Raghwanshi and the exposure of a murder-for-hire plot, it has come to the fore that Sonam offered Rs 4 lakh for her husband's murder and then raised the amount to Rs 20 lakh. According to reports, the hitmen hired by Sonam first met with the Raghuvanshi couple in Bengaluru, from where they took their connecting flight to the Raghwanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi, Murder Plot, Indore Tourist, Lucknow, Murder for Hire Shillong police sources suggested that the plan of a one-way ticket to Meghalaya was Sonam's plan. Even though her boyfriend did not travel to Meghalaya, he did the planning behind the scenes and was in touch with Sonam, the reports added. According to top police sources, Sonam had also helped the other accused in pushing Raghuvanshi's body into a gorge in Meghalaya. Raja Raghuvanshi's body was found in a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district on June 2, days after he reached Meghalaya with his wife Sonam for their honeymoon. Sonam had allegedly hired killers to get rid of her husband as she reportedly wanted to be with her lover. As per sources, Sonam Raghuvanshi planned the murder with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha just a few days after her May 11 wedding in Indore. The accused first followed the newlyweds to Guwahati on May 21 where they stayed close to their hotel and then to Shillong on May 22. They killed Raja the next day, the sources said. On May 23, Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi went on a trek to a steep peak to see a waterfall, with the hitmen following their trail. At one point, Sonam pretended to be tired and started walking much behind her husband and the killers, the sources said. When they reached a deserted place, Sonam allegedly asked the men to kill her husband. The killers, however, refused to kill him, saying they were tired, as per the sources. Sonam Raghuvanshi then allegedly raised her offer to 20 lakh, they said. According to sources, Sonam also helped the accused in throwing Raja's body into the ditch. As per the preliminary autopsy report, Raja Raghuvanshi was hit twice, once each on the back and front of his head. The Meghalaya Police knew on June 3, a day after they found the body of Raja Raghuvanshi in the gorge, that his wife was involved in the murder. The Meghalaya Police has claimed that all those involved in the conspiracy to kill the man from Indore - including Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan and Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi - have been arrested in the operation that they codenamed 'Operation Honeymoon'.
