Rohit Roy: Who says I've quit TV?

Time of India26-07-2025
Rohit Roy, after a hiatus from television, expresses his eagerness to return with a compelling project. Known for roles in shows like 'Swabhimaan' and films like 'Shootout at Lokhandwala,' he's keen to explore comedy, a genre he believes is untapped in his career.
Rohit Roy
has been missing from television for a while now. So, has he quit the small screen? The actor replies, 'A lot of people think I don't want to do television shows. In fact, some close producer friends of mine were surprised when I told them I'm keen to do a good project on TV.
It just has to be something I can dig my teeth into because the medium needs a different kind of commitment — 12 hours a day for a year, and if it works, then even longer. So, I want to love the show, the character and the writing.'
Rohit, who has been part of TV shows like Swabhimaan, Kkusum and Virasat, and movies like Shootout at Lokhandwala and Kaabil, says that he wants to explore different genres, including comedy. He shares, 'Earlier, I would be offered only boy-next-door kind of roles.
Then I did Shootout at Lokhandwala and people started seeing me as this rustic, slightly dirty guy, someone who could be dangerous. Then I did Kaabil, which was also different.
But I feel there's a side that no one's tapped into and that's comedy. I did a show called Baat Ban Jaye early on; it was a comedy and did well. Unfortunately, newer filmmakers haven't seen that comic side. But I know I'm good at it.'
Earlier, talking to us about how his fitness journey began, he shares, 'I was a complete bookworm. But the moment I signed my first film, I realised that unless I went to the gym and made myself presentable, it wouldn't work. After that, very early, I realised that working out is essential. You become disciplined, you feel better, and your day starts on a high. My fitness journey started as vanity, but soon became a lifestyle for me.

‘I would work for 22 hours non-stop,' Chetan Hansraj recalls working on Ekta Kapoor serials: ‘I would take a nap in between shots'

In the early 2000s, Indian television was going through a massive transformation as Ekta Kapoor put out one show after another, and all of them were major hits. It was during that period that television actors, and crews, were working round the clock. Recently, actor Chetan Hansraj, who was often seen in negative roles in Balaji shows, shared that he would work for 22 hours every single day, and he continued to work in that fashion for three years. Chetan was seen in Kkusum, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat in the early 2000s and he shared that this was a 'transformative' experience for him. In a chat with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Chetan shared, 'I was doing three shows at once. I was shooting non-stop. I used to shoot 22-hours-a-day for those 2-3 years in the beginning, non-stop. I would take a nap whenever I got a chance. I would sleep in between shots. I used to carry on like that.' The actor shared that he would get a day off every week or two weeks because he would be too tired, but apart from that day, he would work without taking any breaks. But, unlike many who have spoken about that experience in a negative way, Chetan Hansraj called it the 'most amazing experience of my life', and said that this was the 'golden period of television.' Thanking Ekta Kapoor for the opportunity, Chetan recalled how his life changed in the first year when he worked with the production house. 'When 2004 started, my bank balance wasn't that great. In fact, it was too weak. But, by the end of 2004, I got married, I bought a house in Bandra and I bought a car, my first car so my life was transformed,' he said. In a chat with Bharti Singh on her YouTube channel, Shweta shared, 'Our industry was known for the fact that no one ever used to sleep or take rest. I used to shoot for 72 hours straight, without a break. After working a 30-day schedule, I used to get payment for 45 days, and that is because my first shift used to be from 7 in the morning to 7 in the evening, and the second shift was from 7 in the evening to 2 am in the morning.' Previously, actor Krystle D'Souza, in a chat with Siddharth Kannan, said that she would faint because of exhaustion but even then, she wouldn't get a break. 'I have shot for 60 hours non-stop. I have fainted on the sets so many times. The team had to call for an ambulance. I would get IV drips and medicines, and go back to shoot. There was no time even go to the hospital, (laughs) they would bring the hospital on set,' she said.

'Rohit Sharma itna maarega na tere ko': Yuvraj Singh runs into viral sensation who rose to fame because of India captain

Veteran India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh had an interesting meeting with Rohit Sharma's doppleganger in Mumbai. Yuvraj made an appearance at an event for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, joined by Indian stars Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues, along with former captain Mithali Raj. Yuvraj Singh caught up with a viral sensation who rose to fame because of Rohit Sharma. At the event, Yuvraj met social media creator Amit Maru, known for his viral videos impersonating Rohit. Having gained widespread attention for his mimicking in recent months, Maru was recognised by Yuvraj. The hero of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup jokingly told the content creator that Rohit might give him a beating when they meet for all the mimicking he's been doing. "Sharma ji ke bete (Sharma's son). Tere ko dekhega na, itna marega tereko woh, itna marega na tereko woh (If he sees you, he is going to beat you)," Yuvraj said in a video which went viral on social media. Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announce retirement from ODIs too? Rohit recently announced his retirement from the Test format ahead of the England tour; meanwhile, a report in Dainik Jagran has emerged that he might also bid adieu to the ODIs too soon. With the Bangladesh series scheduled for August being called off, India's next ODI assignment will be an away series against Australia from October 19-25. The report suggested that both Rohit and Virat Kohli are set to retire after the Australia tour. Meanwhile, a recent report in PTI suggested that the BCCI's current priority is the T20 World Cup. "Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have something in mind, they would tell the BCCI brass like they did before the England Test tour. But from an Indian team's perspective, the next big assignment is the T20 World Cup in February and preparations before that. The immediate focus will be on sending the best team for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, hoping all players are fit and available," a BCCI source privy to the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. Rohit, who travelled to the UK for a break after IPL, returned to Mumbai recently and might start training soon for the ODI series. Kohli recently posted an Instagram story after an indoor nets session, which is an indicator that he has started training.
