FIFA targets $1 billion revenue from Women's World Cup
The 2023 Women's World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand, broke even after generating more than $570 million in revenue.
'Women's football and women in football are crucially important…,' said Infantino.
'It's growing as well, and exponentially, and we are targeting that as well to have $1 billion revenue just with the Women's World Cup to reinvest in the women's game.'

The next women's World Cup in 2027 will be hosted by Brazil, making it the first edition to be held in South America.
The United States is poised to be named host of the 2031 edition, which will be expanded to 48 teams from 32.
Infantino also said there was massive potential for football to generate more revenue outside Europe.
'If the rest of the world, in particular Saudi Arabia or the United States of America, would do just 20% of what Europe does in soccer, we (could reach an amount of over) half a trillion (dollars) or more of GDP impact (with our sport),' he added.
'Saudi Arabia, by the way, is doing exceptionally good, as well, by creating a women's league, a women's national team. Women's football is really the only team sport for women that has such a huge audience and impact as well.'

Inter Miami calls Lionel Messi's leg injury ‘minor'
A return date for Lionel Messi to the Inter Miami lineup is uncertain, but the Herons announced Sunday that the superstar's right leg injury isn't serious. Messi came out of Miami's Leagues Cup match against Necaxa on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in the 11th minute, shortly after getting hurt in a collision with two opponents. After Messi underwent medical tests, the team issued a statement on Sunday that read, in part, 'The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment.' In Messi's absence, Inter Miami rallied late to equalize the match at 2-2, then prevailed 5-4 in a tiebreaking penalty-kick shootout. Through two Leagues Cup matches, Miami sits in second place in the MLS standings with one regulation win and one shootout win, good for five points. The top four of the 18 MLS clubs in the competition will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be joined by the top four of the tournament's 18 Liga Mx clubs. The Herons conclude the group phase with a Wednesday home match at Pumas UNAM. Inter Miami resumes MLS regular-season action on Aug. 10 at Orlando City. Messi, 38, has 18 regular-season goals this year, tied for the MLS lead with Nashville SC's Sam Surridge. In Leagues Cup play, he assisted on both of Miami's goals in a 2-1 opening win over Atlas on Wednesday. An eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and a 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina, Messi is in his third season with Inter Miami.

Photo: REUTERS South Africa's Twenty20 captain Aiden Markram wants his team's promising young batsman to use the opportunity of limited overs tours to Australia and England over the next eight weeks to develop their careers and display their international potential. South Africa have high hopes for powerful teenage slogger Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis, the prolific 22-year-old run scorer who first competed in the Indian Premier League three years ago, as they continue preparations for next year's T20 World Cup. "The last thing you want to do is to clip their wings. You sort of want to let them fly and let them do their thing," Markram told a virtual press conference on Friday as South Africa readied to depart for Australia, where they play three T20 internationals in Darwin and Cairns later this month. "I think we've seen on various stages around the world now that they are proper X-factor players and that they have taken to international cricket quite easily," he added. "So, I don't know if I have too much advice for them, besides the fact that they must keep taking the game on and not be scared of disappointments or failures. "It's been great to see their progress. They're going to play a massive role moving forward in cricket in South Africa and that's the thing that we're quite excited about," Markram added. Brevis, a regular in T20 leagues around the world, debuted for South Africa's T20 side against Australia two years ago while Pretorius, 19, debuted in last month's tri series against New Zealand and hosts Zimbabwe, scoring 51 in the final in Harare last weekend. The pair are also in the squad to take on Australia in three One Day Internationals after the T20 series. South Africa then head to England early next month for three ODIs and three T20s. "For us as a team it'll be about fine tuning a lot of things and preparing for that T20 World Cup, so a great opportunity in Australia and then followed by England and if we can get closer towards another trophy, that'll be good," Markram told reporters. South Africa were runners-up at the last T20 World Cup in the West Indies one year ago and Markram was the hero of their World Test Championship win over Australia in June. The next T20 World Cup to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in early 2026.
