April 9 (Reuters) - American tennis great Billie Jean King has been honoured with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
King, a 39-times Grand Slam singles and doubles champion who has become an advocate for social equality, is the first woman to be given a star in the new sports entertainment category.
"The important thing is, I don't want to be the last one," the 81-year-old said.
Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame were previously reserved for those in cinema, television, radio, theatre and music.
King's star is the 2,807th to be installed on the famous Hollywood strip since the custom began in 1960.
"My family loved music and movies. My mother would have loved this," said King, the founder of the Women's Tennis Association and trailblazer for gender equality in the sport.
King's work to create the WTA and the famous 'Battle of the Sexes' match against Bobby Riggs was portrayed in the 2017 movie of the same name.

Celtic fans demand ‘where can I get one?' as South American club release Hoops-inspired kit in homage to Parkhead side

A SOUTH American club have unveiled their new kit inspired by Celtic, with Hoops fans liking what they see. The jersey unveiled yesterday by Argentinian side Club Atletico Sarmiento is a double call-back to the Hoops. 3 Club Atletico Sarmiento have released a kit inspired by Celtic Credit: Club Atletico Sarmiento / X 3 The Hoops are in call-back to the Lisbon Lions Credit: Club Atletico Sarmiento / X 3 The announcement video shows a bagpiper draped in the colours Credit: Club Atletico Sarmiento / X The top is inspired by their own kit from 1968, which in turn was inspired by the European Cup winners of the previous year - the famous Lisbon Lions. Sharing the latest bit of gear, Sarmiento said in a social media post: "A t-shirt is more than fabric, it connects stories. "In 1968, Sarmiento used a design inspired by Celtic, the European champions. A Scottish club with an Irish soul. "Today, we relaunch that t-shirt to celebrate the union and the Irish legacy in Junín." The launch video shows a man in the Hoops wielding bagpipes, while a voiceover says: "More than a century ago, the Irish community brought work, customs, and a colour that will stay with us forever. "In 1968, Sarmiento decided to wear the green and white jersey like Celtic, European Champions. A Scottish club with an Irish soul. "That shirt became history. Today we wear it again. "A tribute to the Irish community, to our city, to its roots, which are also part of our history." Also shown is a captain's armband in tricolours emblazoned with a shamrock. And some fans of a green and white persuasion are enamoured by this top, wondering how they can get their hands on one. Celtic linked with ANOTHER winger and is Balikwisha a DONE DEAL One wrote 'that's class', while another said it's 'better than what we have and a nice armband'. A fan commented 'I'd buy one of these' while others asked where to do so. But it seems that may not be an easy task, as the club has confirmed an initially limited sale. Sarmiento said: "A beauty. The first units of the new model will be on sale exclusively for members at our stand at the #ExpoJunín. Limited units. "The Sarmiento Athletic Club thanks everyone who made this production possible." One keen Hoops supporter replied in Spanish asking if it would be available for online purchase and delivery to Scotland, but the answer isn't yet known. Emma Raducanu addresses love life and 'terrible' Carlos Alcaraz question ahead of US Open

Emma Raducanu has been met with relentless questions about her love life and friendship with Carlos Alcaraz, who she will be playing doubles with at the US Open Emma Raducanu opts to block out the noise from relentless speculation about her love life. The British tennis sensation will play alongside Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open mixed doubles tournament. ‌ The two former US Open winners have been friends for a long time, but many tennis fans believe they may be more than simple close acquaintances. Raducanu is currently experiencing what could be described as her finest season since her stunning rise from obscurity to winning the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2021. ‌ Nevertheless, the questions about the two-time Wimbledon winner keep being served to her. She was seen watching one of Alcaraz's matches at Queen's during the summer, sparking unfounded rumours about an alleged hotel rendezvous between the pair. ‌ Nevertheless, the 22-year-old firmly declared at the time she and the world No. 2 are "just friends." She has since tackled the suggestions in another interview with the Guardian. The British No. 1 said: "I guess I'm like, it comes with the territory, people being so curious. I think they're more curious about this news than any tennis results and tennis news. "But I just keep myself to myself, my private life to one side. It's always amusing when people try to dig something up, but I try not to pay too much attention to it." At Wimbledon, British tennis ace Cam Norrie was bizarrely questioned about whether he was romantically involved with Raducanu during a press conference by an overseas journalist who was digging into the Alcaraz rumours. The bewildered player, who enjoys a long-standing relationship with partner Louise Jacobi, replied: "Sorry?!" The reporter then sought clarification, asking: "I am trying to find out who is dating Emma Raducanu. It seems to be a question circulating among all the men's singles... I was wondering if you're dating her, please?" ‌ Norrie, clearly uncomfortable, responded: "I'm not, no. You can ask her. I don't know." Raducanu, finding humour in the awkward situation, chuckled and said: "That was terrible, terrible." She has previously opened up about her friendship with Alcaraz, which goes back many years, telling the Mail: "He's so nice, very happy, amazing values and just a really positive light to be around. I've known him for years. "Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him. He was always playing the day before me, I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too. "It was really cool to go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, we were staying in touch for the whole time and, yeah, it's nice. "We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago."
