Chelsea set asking price as transfer flop Joao Felix chooses next club

Metro4 days ago

Chelsea have set their asking price for Joao Felix after the Stamford Bridge flop held further talks with boyhood club Benfica, according to reports in Portugal.
Felix, 25, is set to leave Chelsea this summer after a dismal spell at the club.
Chelsea spent £45m to sign the Portuguese playmaker from Atletico Madrid last summer but he started just three Premier League games before being sent on loan to AC Milan in January.
Felix did little to win over new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca and suffered a similar fate in Milan where he continued to struggle, ending any hopes of a permanent move to the Italians.
Benfica have held talks with Chelsea over a deal for Felix and the Premier League club have indicated they will happily sell him – providing they receive an offer of at least £21m.

Portuguese outlet A Bola say Benfica are 'dreaming' of bringing Felix back to the club where he came through the ranks and first established himself as a potential superstar.
They even want a deal to be completed in time for Felix to feature for Benfica at the upcoming Club World Cup, which starts on June 15.
Felix scored 20 goals in his first and only season in Benfica's first-team before being signed by Atletico Madrid for £113m in 2019, making him the fourth-most expensive player in history.
Benfica now have the chance to re-sign him for at least £21m but the real obstacle potentially blocking the deal is Felix's huge salary.
A Bola say Benfica are not able to 'even come close' to matching Felix's Chelsea wages so the ex-Barcelona loanee will need to take a significant pay-cut to return to the club. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKFjY5fCDAo/?hl=en&img_index=1
Ex-Chelsea title winner John Obi Mikel recently urged his former club to sell Felix this summer and said he had 'no idea' why he returned to Stamford Bridge.
'The reason why he came back to Chelsea, I have no idea,' he told the Daily Telegraph. 'Spending £40-£50 million on bringing him back and letting him go on loan after a few months. More Trending
'I just don't understand it at all and how that happened. I'm sure Paul Winstanley and the rest of the guys have learnt from that, and not to make the same mistake again.
'He's been at the club twice now and not performed. It has to be sell.'
Felix was on the bench for Portugal during their Nations League semi-final win over Germany on Wednesday night.
He will hope to get an opportunity to make an impact on Sunday evening when Portugal face Spain in the Nations League final at the Allianz Arena.

Arsenal dealt blow as Nico Williams responds to Bayern Munich approach

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has told Bayern Munich he is 'very open' to joining them this summer, according to reports in Germany. Arsenal and Chelsea have Williams on their shortlist for the summer transfer window with both Premier League clubs wanting to strengthen in wide areas. Williams was one of Spain's standout stars at Euro 2024 and finished this season with 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao, who finished fourth in La Liga to secure a place in next season's Champions League. Bayern Munich have also entered the running to sign Williams having lost Leroy Sane, who arrived in Turkey on Wednesday ahead of his move to Galatasaray on a free transfer. According to Sky Germany, Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, and sporting director, Christoph Freund, have held talks with Williams' representatives. It's also claimed that Williams himself has told Bayern that he is 'very open' to joining them this summer. Bayern, however, will need to pay the €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in Williams' deal with Bilbao, as well as meet the 22-year-old's salary demands, which are understood to be in the region of €380,000 (£322,000) a week. More Trending Speaking in April, Williams gave no indication that he would push for a move away from Bilbao this summer. 'I'm super happy here and feel well,' the winger said. 'I've always wanted to feel important here.' Bilbao have also been in talks with Williams to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027. So much so that the Swedish striker is now threatening to go on strike to force a transfer. ‌ That comes as Sporting boss Rui Borges delivered a cryptic update on the future of the 27-year-old. Chelsea sent message by Dortmund over failed Jamie Gittens transfer

Borussia Dortmund have left the door open for Chelsea to make another attempt to sign Jamie Gittens this summer. Chelsea held advanced talks with Dortmund over a deal for the 20-year-old before the transfer window closed on Tuesday night. But after Chelsea's initial €35 million (£29.5m) bid was rejected, their follow up offer of €50m (£42.2m) was also turned down by the Bundesliga side. It's understood that Dortmund were holding out for a €65m (£54.9m) fee for Gittens, who has now been named in their Club World Cup squad. Dortmund will play Brazilian side Fluminense, South Korea's Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in Group F. However, Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admits an agreement with Chelsea for Gittens could be reached after the tournament. 'There was contact with Chelsea, who got in touch again yesterday afternoon,' Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten. 'We spoke again on the phone. In the end, we were unable to reach an agreement because we have different ideas about the player's current value. 'We're happy that Jamie will now be at the Club World Cup and are pleased that he's staying. More Trending 'We examined it very seriously, but in the end, we also made a decision for ourselves. 'But it's still absolutely fine that Chelsea made this attempt. And again, we're in good dialogue. We'll see how things develop in the future.' Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign begins against Los Angeles FC on June 16. Enzo Maresca's side will then play Flamengo on June 20 before their final Group D game against ES Tunis on June 25.
