Skill-entrepreneurship university in pipeline in Kerala
'In the case of the Skill University in Telangana, the institution comes under the industries department. We are yet to make a decision in this regard.'
He said the university is being planned in the Public Private Participation (PPP) model.
'It may have a governing board comprising leading industrialists and technocrats. They are the ones who know what the industries need,' the minister said.
As to who will lead the governing body, and where the university will come up, the decision is yet to be arrived at. In Telangana, the institution is headed by the chief minister, he pointed out. 'We are studying the skill universities in Gujarat, Maharashtra and some other states,' Rajeeve said. According to the university concept, companies will formulate course modules.
'Each industry needs skills of its own. So, it is apt that the courses be developed by them as per their requirement. Once the students get trained in these skills, provisions will also be there for them to be placed with these companies,' the minister said. And it is just not skills the institution will develop.
'Entrepreneurship will also be promoted at the university. Once students have the requisite skills, they can easily start a venture of their own and provide employment to others,' Rajeeve said. Welcoming the development, Group of Technology Companies (GTech) secretary Sreekumar V said, 'This is the need of the hour.
It is something that we have been demanding for a long time. We want students to acquire hands-on training. Many agencies are conducting courses. However, those are just classroom training. That's not what the industries want. They want proof of work. Something which shows them that their prospective employee has learnt the skill and has it too.'

MoU signed for four-lane road, CCRC amenity centre in Kochi
Kochi: State govt and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) on Wednesday exchanged MoUs to facilitate development of two major community infrastructure projects, including development of a four-lane road to Ambalamugal Industrial Hub. The MoU was signed at chief minister's chamber in Thiruvananthapuram. The second project is construction of an amenity centre for Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC). The road development would be carried out in association with public works department (PWD). According to BPCL authorities, the company will contribute Rs 25.12 crore towards the road development and construction of a bridge over Chitrapuzha River, in partnership with PWD. The 2km road stretch from Chithrapuzha Junction to HOC Junction would be developed. Apart from constructing a bridge, the existing bridge would be strengthened, said a BPCL source. The amenity centre at CCRC is intended to support patients and bystanders. The facility, with a capacity to accommodate approximately 185 people, is being supported by BPCL with funding of Rs 11.34 crore under its CSR initiative. The MoU was signed in the presence of industries minister P Rajeeve, PWD minister P A Mohamed Riyas, health minister Veena George, BPCL director (refineries) Sanjay Khanna and others. Kerala Aviation Summit to be held at Cial on Aug 23 & 24
Kochi: In a move to position Kerala as a major hub for the nation's growing aviation sector, Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial), in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (Ficci), will host Kerala Aviation Summit on Saturday and Sunday. The two-day event aims to attract investment and foster innovation in the rapidly growing industry. The conference will feature in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics critical to the future of aviation. The sessions will cover policy formulation, infrastructure development and strategic changes within the sector. India successfully test-fires Agni-V intermediate-range ballistic missile
NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday successfully test-fired the 'Agni-V' missile, in a step to strengthen its policy of 'credible minimum deterrence.' The Ministry of Defence said in a statement: 'Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile 'Agni-5' was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha.' The launch validated all operational and technical parameters and was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, it added. TNIE had earlier reported that the surface-to-surface Agni-V uses a three-stage solid-fuelled engine and can strike targets up to 5,000 kilometres away with a high degree of accuracy. Designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Agni-V is a canister-launched system transported by truck. With its range, it is viewed as a deterrent against China. Broadly classified as an intercontinental ballistic missile, it can carry a payload of 1.5 tonnes and weighs about 50 tonnes. India is the eighth country with ICBM capability after the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France, Israel and North Korea. The Agni series ranges from Agni-I to Agni-V, with the latter the most advanced and first tested in 2012. Other missiles in the series include Agni-I (700 km range), Agni-II (2,000 km), and Agni-III and IV (2,500–3,500 km).
