"Wherever Congress sees land, it grabs that through corruption": BJP's Poonawalla over National Herald Case

India Gazette05-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Congress party over the National Herald case, alleging it exemplifies the party's involvement in land-related corruption.
Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla claimed, 'The National Herald scam is proof of how the Congress party is connected to the land. Wherever Congress sees land, be it the Jija ji scam, MUDA scam, or National Herald scam, it grabs that land through corruption.'
Poonawalla further alleged that properties worth Rs 2,000 crore, which he claimed belonged to freedom fighters and the people of the country, were acquired by Congress through a special purpose vehicle named Young Indians for a mere Rs 50 lakh.
'In the case of National Herald, property worth two thousand crores, which belonged to the freedom fighters, belonged to the people of the country. By creating a special purpose vehicle named Young Indians and paying Rs 50 lakh, the entire property worth two thousand crores was taken. Now, when the looters are being asked to return, these people are playing the victim card...,' he added.
On July 2, Delhi's Rouse Avenue court raised certain queries to the ED about the shareholding of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and whether the Congress party was a victim, as It had given a loan to AJL.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju submitted that there was a conspiracy to siphon off the assets of AJL, a company with assets worth Rs 2000 crore, a fact known to Congress leaders.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne heard the arguments at length for nearly three hours and listed the matter for further hearing on July 3.
The ED filed a prosecution complaint (charge sheet) against seven persons: Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, Young Indian, Dotex, and Sunil Bhandari. The Congress provided a loan of Rs. 90.25 crore to AJL, which had no means to repay despite holding assets worth Rs. 2000 crores, ASG Raju submitted.
Raju alleged that the accused aimed to usurp AJL, with its Rs. 2000 crore assets, by creating Young Indian, a company controlled by the Gandhis. The ED argued that Young Indian acquired AJL for just Rs. 50 lakh in exchange for the Rs. 90 crore loan provided by the Congress.
The ED further stated that the accused firm, Dotex, gave a Rs. 1 crore loan to Young Indian, out of which Rs 50 lakh was paid to the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Consequently, Young Indian became the owner of AJL for Rs 50 lakh.
ASG Raju argued that a company with an asset value of even Rs 5 lakh became the owner of a company with Rs 2000 crore in assets, emphasising the absurdity of the transaction. Despite AJL's Rs 2,000 crore in assets, it struggled to manage its daily affairs. Raju argued that any prudent person would have sold assets to repay the Rs 90 crore loan, which was insignificant compared to the company's asset value.
The ASG alleged that the AICC conspired to usurp AJL's assets through Young Indian, created to siphon off Rs 2000 crore in exchange for the Rs 90 crore loan.
The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju questioned why the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had given another loan to Associated Journals Limited (AJL) when the company was unable to repay the earlier loan, asking why a prudent person would do so.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleged that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi wanted to take over AJL, a company with assets worth Rs. 2000 crores. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi takes EC dig over tea with 'dead voters'

NEW DELHI: Sharpening his criticism of the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday remarked that he had had the unique experience of having tea with some "dead" voters from Bihar. Rahul and other INDIA bloc netas are all set to embark on a 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' starting Aug 17, to make the "battle against vote chori a mass movement". Congress said, "Seven voters in Bihar, all very much alive, shared tea with Rahul Gandhi today - even as the Election Commission 's SIR lists them as 'dead'." "There have been many interesting experiences in life, but I never got the chance to have tea with 'dead people'. For this unique experience, thank you Election Commission!" Rahul said on X. Congress said they voters, who belong to RJD MP Tejashwi Yadav's constituency of Raghopur, were removed from the electoral rolls despite having completed the requisite paperwork. Congress also hit back at BJP for its claim of irregularities on seats contested by some top opposition netas, with Pawan Khera telling PTI the data shared points to the governing party's collusion with EC and demanding that 2024 Lok Sabha polls be considered "null and void".

Sonia Gandhi on poll roll before attaining citizenship: BJP

Sonia Gandhi (File photo) NEW DELHI: BJP on Wednesday sought to turn the tables on Congress over the latter's campaign against alleged "vote theft" by making the serious charge that Sonia Gandhi got herself enrolled twice as a voter without renouncing her Italian citizenship. "Sonia Gandhi's name entered the electoral rolls twice without meeting the basic citizenship requirement - first as an Italian citizen in 1980, and then again in 1983, months before she legally became a citizen of India. We are not even asking why it took her 15 years after marrying Rajiv Gandhi to accept Indian citizenship. If this isn't blatant electoral malpractice, what is?" said BJP IT department head Amit Malviya to counter Congress's claim that EC had facilitated BJP's victories by enrolling fake voters. On X, Malviya posted a copy of the electoral roll form of the official residence of then PM Indira Gandhi, claiming Sonia's name was added during the revision of rolls with Jan 1, 1980, as the qualifying date. . "Following an outcry in 1982, her name was deleted from the list only to reappear in 1983," he said. "In the fresh revision of the electoral rolls that year, Sonia Gandhi was listed at serial number 236 in polling station 140. The qualifying date for registration was Jan 1, 1983, but she was granted Indian citizenship only on April 30, 1983," Malviya added.

Endorsement of Congress drive is 'clip chori': Actor Menon

PATNA: Actor Kay Kay Menon has denied any role in Congress's vote theft campaign after a video surfaced suggesting he had endorsed the drive. The actor said the clip was taken from his promotion for a web series, edited and used without his permission. Menon's statement came hours after Bihar's Minta Devi, the "124 Not Out" poster girl of INDIA bloc's "Vote Chori" protest in Delhi, criticised Congress for using her name and image for the protest. "Please let it be noted that I did not act in this ad," Menon said in a social media post, adding "a clip" from a promotion for his web series "was edited and used without any permission". He reacted after the video used by Congress showed Menon's web series character, Himmat Singh , urging viewers to join the campaign.
