BBC Radio 1 sees three new presenters join Friday Early Breakfast
Three new presenters will join BBC Radio 1 to take over the Friday Early Breakfast slot (Fridays, 5am – 7am) on a monthly rotation, beginning this month (February).
Dan Draper, Alice Hopkins and Cloe Lee are the next wave of presenters set to host the show which launched in January 2021.
All three presenters were given their first opportunity to host on Radio 1 during the 2024 festive period as part of the hugely successful Christmas Takeover – an initiative created by Head of Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones, to showcase and support the next generation of presenting talent.
Kicking off the rotation will be Dan Draper from Harlow who will take on Friday Early Breakfast in February. Dan currently presents a weekly show on community station Riverside Radio and is also a podcast host. He presented Radio 1 Anthems during the 2024 Christmas period.
Dan Draper says: 'I had such a great time hosting Radio 1 Anthems as part of the Christmas Takeover 2024, that I'm back!! I'm super excited to be hosting Early Breakfast every Friday in February. So expect a lot of energy and laughs to start your Fridays in the best way!'
Next up, taking the reins in March, will be Edinburgh-native Alice Hopkins. Alice has had presenting gigs on BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Oxford, Berkshire and Solent hosting a variety of shows including BBC Introducing, and hosted Radio 1 Anthems during the 2024 Christmas period.
Alice Hopkins says: 'I'm so beyond buzzing to start peoples Friday mornings with some Scottish tones and chatter come March!!
'Presenting Friday Early Breakfast on Radio 1 is something I've dreamt of doing for so many years now - ever since it launched as an opportunity for new presenters. March can't come soon enough!'
Taking on the slot in April will be 25-year-old Cloe Lee from Brentwood. Alongside her day job in social media, Cloe has hosted shows on an independent digital radio station – including her own queer country show - and during the 2024 Christmas period took over Radio 1 Anthems.
Cloe Lee says: 'From sneakily listening to Radio 1 in French lessons, to performing my own jingles in Year 4... I've wanted to be on the radio my entire life! What a dream to be back on Radio 1, I had the best time presenting at Christmas and can't wait to be on every Friday morning in April! Let's be havin' ya!'
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: 'Supporting and developing new presenting talent is at the heart of what we do at Radio 1, and the Friday Early Breakfast slot has been a key part of that since its launch in 2021.
'I'm excited to welcome three new presenters from our 2024 Christmas Takeover initiative and can't wait to see what they do with their shows.'

Chris Kamara agrees on Jeff Stelling's 'lowest point' on Soccer Saturday
Chris Kamara has agreed with Jeff Stelling on the most embarrassing moment of the legendary presenter's career. Kamara, as an in-vision match reporter, and Stelling, as host, were an iconic combination on Sky Sports ' Soccer Saturday. Passion, drama and plenty of hilarious moments ensued as the pair combined to create football TV gold. On one occasion, Stelling was left red-faced after he was corrected by Kamara for forgetting that West Ham had moved to the London Stadium from Upton Park. Stelling jokingly dubbed it the "lowest point" of his presenting career. Kamara agrees with his great friend, telling the Daily Star: 'Yeah, it's true, it probably was the lowest point in his career!' The former Brentford and Leeds defender added: 'But we had so many laughs along the way, too many to mention. What a great time we had, the best of it all. 'And those memories and the way people treat myself and Jeff these days, they obviously enjoyed it as well. So that's a great thing.' During his Sky career, Kamara was renowned for his 'Unbelievable Jeff!' phrase. He's grateful for the public's continued love, explaining: 'If I go out every single day, somebody will say, 'Unbelievable Jeff'. And they go, 'You must be fed up with that?' "No, I'm not, not at all. I'm proud of it, if I'm honest, to have a catchphrase that's got longevity. Don't knock it.' Kamara left Sky as he battled with apraxia of speech, while Stelling stood down as long-time Soccer Saturday presenter in 2023. The pair remained close before they were unexpectedly reunited on TV when Kamara was hired to report on Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham as part of Amazon Prime Video's Boxing Day coverage, which was fronted by Stelling. 'That was great, absolutely great. I couldn't believe it,' said Kamara, who is managing his apraxia symptoms, which affects sufferers' ability to plan and coordinate the movements needed to produce speech 'I thought it was a wind-up when I got the call from Amazon. They said, 'We've got an idea. Because it's our last round of games, and Sky have got all the future Christmas games and stuff... we've got an idea, we're going to get you reporting with Jeff in the studio.' 'I said, 'Are you sure you want me back?' And he went 'Yeah, yeah we do.' Nottingham Forest laid out the red carpet for me, put my picture on the big screen, 'Welcome back, Kammy.' They gave me boardroom tickets. 'It was just wonderful, and I said there and then if that is my last game, then so be it. The last game I did before that for Sky was when my condition was really bad, Rotherham versus Shrewsbury.' Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Midlothian woman transforms mansion into a magical family escape
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A Midlothian woman has transformed a section of a neglected mansion into a magical workshop for all ages. Gayanne Potter and her family spent months turning the neglected wing of Vogrie House into a mystical venue after they were offered it by Midlothian Council. She said: "I wanted to create a space that felt magical and enchanting, somewhere families could enjoy a slower pace for a while and reconnect through different imaginative activities. Take time away from screens, just be swept up in the wonder we've created in the different rooms. "Magic has no age limit and The Bubbling Toad doesn't either, it's for everyone.' The wing they painstakingly restored is now home to The Bubbling Toad, an experience like no other where children and adults alike can embrace their magical side as they make potions, create magical crafts in their various workshops and dive into the world of fantasy by following hidden trails in the Fairy Hollow. (Image: Supplied) Located in Vogrie Country Park, this handcrafted space also features a 'starlit' library and an 'everchanging' escape room that will be changed every few months. Having opened on Friday, June 6, their first escape room is Victorian themed. However, during specific holidays, it will be modified to fit the occasion. At Christmas, for example, The Bubbling Toad team will turn their Fairy Hollow into an Elf's Workshop while the escape room becomes Santa's Grotto. And to top it all off, The Bubbling Toad will also be bookable for parties where children can either let their imagination run free in the Fairy Hollow or let their creativity flow with an exclusive potion making party. Experiences start from just £8 for children's sessions, with adult experiences and crafting classes starting from £18. More information on The Bubbling Toad can be found here.

Kerry Katona shows true colours over Katie Price friendship after cancelled tour
OK! Magazine columnist Kerry Katona appears to have thrown shade at her long-term friend Katie Price after their joint upcoming tour was cancelled as she says she's finally 'back on track' Kerry Katona has shared her thoughts on some of the latest hot topics in showbiz, including Chris Martin's shock split with Dakota Johnson after eight years, Jessie J's breast cancer diagnosis, Jamie Laing becoming a first-time-dad, and Kerry herself feeling 'back on track' after her joint tour with long-term friend Katie Price was recently cancelled. Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson's shock split I was sad to read about Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson's split, I thought they made a really nice couple and seemed very happy. I hope they're both doing OK. I really like Chris and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. I think they're such a great family and it's amazing how they have managed to co-parent their kids and stay friends. I take my hat off to anyone who can do that, I wish I could have. I always wish Brian and I could have stayed friends. Molly went to watch him at a festival last week and I would have loved to have gone with her and been able to enjoy it as mates. His fiance is lovely and they've got a gorgeous little one. It would be great to have a better relationship. Love to Jessie J I'm sending all of my love and prayers to Jessie J after her shock breast cancer diagnosis, it's just awful. I want to give her all of the strength in the world, I can't imagine what she's going through. I know she's got a little one too, so my heart is going out to all the family. My health anxiety has always been bad and, as I get older, hearing about people being diagnosed makes me so nervous. I have a lump on my armpit which is just swollen lymph nodes, but I've got to keep an eye on it anyway, which scares me. I recently found out my biological family history, because I never knew my dad or what health issues were on his side of the family, and my grandmother had breast cancer. Thankfully, I've been checked and i'm OK, but it's scary. A decade of love Love Island is back and I cannot wait to get stuck in - it's my guilty pleasure! We've got Love Island and then my series of Celebs Go Dating, so it's a good summer for TV! I've been so busy that I haven't seen much about the new islanders, but i'm sure they will be great. The show is celebrating ten years on TV and I really hope they do something to honour Caroline Flack - the show was her baby and she loved it. I was disappointed to see that she didn't get a tribute in the Decade Of Love special they did earlier this month, I think that's wrong. Jamie's baby joy I'm so happy for Made In Chelsea couple Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, who have announced they're having a baby. They're a really great couple and I can't wait to see them as parents. It's such a beautiful thing to become parents for the first time and I'm wishing them all the best. I know they've been hosting Radio 1 together recently, which I think is great, but unfortunately I'm loyal to Heart FM - Amanda Holden cracks me up on the breakfast show! Back on track I'm feeling so much better this week after being run-down the last while. It's great to finally feel like myself again. I went to Oxford Natural Clinic last week to help me feel revitalised, and they topped up my Botox too, so I'm feeling glam again. Aside from filming Celebs Go Dating, which we are almost finished with, I've just been spending time with the family. Lilly has been home this week from Ireland and Molly's also just arrived, so I'm happy to have my babies back. I always love having the kids at home - it's the best feeling in the world.
