Miami Herald22-06-2025
Welcome to the first annual Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup championship parade live blog, keeping you up to date with the second annual Panthers Stanley Cup championship parade down A1A in Fort Lauderdale.
The team and the Cup have left the IcePlex
The Panthers have loaded the buses and left the Baptist Health IcePlex at the War Memorial Auditorium for the parade. Among those on the bus with the Stanley Cup: defenseman Jaycob Megna, who was signed as a free agent in July and spent most of the season with the Panthers' American Hockey League minor league team in Charlotte.
Megna was born in Plantation on Dec. 10, 1992. The next day, during annual league meetings at The Breakers in Palm Beach, the NHL announced the granting of new franchises to be based in Anaheim and South Florida.
The daily precipitation comes early
Before the parade, around 10:55 a.m., a light drizzle came down near the stage area next to the beach. At 85 degrees with a 74% humidity, nature's sprinkling system was appreciated by the folks gathered there.
Wristbands for kids
Kids along the route are getting blue wristbands from Fort Lauderdale police with parents' phone numbers in case the kids get separated in all the hubbub.
With reporting from Herald reporters Jordan McPherson, Connie Ogle, Kaitlyn Pohly and Greg Cote.

Panthers sign rookie pass rusher, release 2022 draft pick

After making an adjustment to the cornerback position on Friday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers went on to do the same at outside linebacker just a few hours later. The Panthers have signed undrafted rookie outside linebacker J.J. Weaver, one of 14 players who worked out for the team this past Monday. To make room for the 25-year-old, Carolina released fellow pass rusher Amaré Barno—a sixth-round pick from the 2022 draft. Weaver played six years at the University of Kentucky, where he amassed 21.5 sacks and 41 tackles for a loss over 58 games. The 6-foot-5, 241-pounder also tallied two interceptions, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He'll now take the spot on the summer roster in place of Barno, who has spent each of his three NFL seasons in Carolina. Barno, limited in part by a knee injury he sustained in 2023, recorded 3.0 sacks in 29 appearances for the article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers sign OLB J.J. Panthers sign LB JJ Weaver, cut LB Amare Barno

The Panthers made a change at outside linebacker Friday, swapping players. The team signed undrafted rookie JJ Weaver, the Panthers announced. They released outside linebacker Amare Barno in a corresponding move. Weaver, 25, played six seasons at Kentucky. He was a three-time captain for the Wildcats and finished his college career with 21.5 sacks. Barno entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick of the Panthers in 2022. He tore his ACL late in the 2023 season and began last year on the physically unable to perform list. He had three sacks in three seasons, appearing in 29 games.
