The longest pass of Archie Manning's career is the Saints Play of the Day
There are 85 days left to count down until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2025 regular season, which makes the longest pass of Archie Manning's career the Saints Play of the Day. Manning lobbed an 85-yard toss to Wes Chandler back in 1979, setting up a much-needed touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers. You can see it for yourself here.
Chandler would have scored on the play if not for a horse-collar tackle, which flung him out of bounds and injured his knee. But he returned to complete the 16-game season and ended up winning his first Pro Bowl appearance that season. As for this game? Both rivals entered the field needing their first win of the season, and Manning put on a clinic to get it done -- he completed 20 of 28 passes for 355 yards and two scores, including a 5-yard strike to Chandler earlier in the game.
New Orleans ended the year at 8-8 and second-place in the old NFC West, their best record in the franchise's history to that point. It's just a shame they couldn't sustain that success. The next season saw head coach Dick Nolan fired after an 0-12 ugly start, and by 1982 both Chandler and Manning would be traded to other teams as the Saints attempted to rebuild. The road ahead was bleak, but in this moment, both Manning and Chandler proved they could make a big play when their team needed it.

Analyst Calls Eagles Legitimate Target For Pro Bowl Cornerback

Analyst Calls Eagles Legitimate Target For Pro Bowl Cornerback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There are many reasons why the Philadelphia Eagles continue to be tied to free-agent cornerback Jaire Alexander. After winning Super Bowl LIX, the organization parted ways with two key starters in the secondary, including cornerback Darius Slay and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Advertisement With Alexander now a free agent after his release from the Green Bay Packers, the Pro Bowl cornerback is seen as a fit for the Eagles maybe in part if they don't believe in young Kelee Ringo. There is an underrated reason why Alexander is a strong fit with Philly, though. Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker was a quality control coach with the Packers during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Alexander was an All-Pro during his second season with Parker. Philadelphia doesn't have much money to give out for Alexander this offseason, but one analyst believes something could happen that would turn the tide on a potential deal. Advertisement ESPN's Adam Schefter joined 97.5 The Fanatic and addressed the possibility while saying Alexander could be a fit if the price is right. "Now, Jaire Alexander, if the price were right and you're doing a one-year deal – whatever the number is, a low number – they can go make that work if that's what they wanted to do," Schefter said. Things can absolutely change if Alexander - who was a $20 million plus guy under his previous deal. lowers his price. That said, Philadelphia has supported Ringo in earning the starting job this season. With larger extensions due the following offseason, Philadelphia is trying to save as much cap space as possible for next year. Advertisement And we say - with all due respect to Schefter - that leaves Alexander as an unlikely fit for the team at this point. Slimmed-down Travis Kelce is coming to Chiefs camp — NFL insider reveals stunning transformation

Travis Kelce is going to have a different look this summer as training camp nears. With the Chiefs set to start mandatory minicamp next week, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday that Kelce is going to have a different look this summer — a 25-pound-lighter look, to be exact. Kelce, who was listed at 250 pounds last season, did not attend voluntary OTAs — and was even spotted Thursday at Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final with girlfriend Taylor Swift — but is expected to be at practice Tuesday. 'He will debut a bit of a slimmer look,' Fowler said on 'SportsCenter' on Saturday morning. 'He's told people close to him that he's lost about 25 pounds this offseason. Played a little bit heavier in 2024, sort of a thing. He vowed to change it, and he has.' Fowler added that this season could be Kelce's 'last dance.' Kelce and the Chiefs were thumped by the Eagles in Super Bowl 2025, and questions lingered for the early part of the offseason about whether the tight end would retire. Travis Kelce is entering his 13th NFL season. Getty Images He was named to his 10th Pro Bowl in 2024, but he produced the lowest full-season receiving yard total (823) of his career with just three touchdowns. But on Feb. 27, Kelce texted Pat McAfee that he would indeed return for a 13th NFL season. 'I'm coming back, for sure,' Kelce told McAfee in a text that was read on the air on the ex-punter's show on ESPN. 'Gonna try and get to the best shape I've been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can't go out like that!!!!' Quarterback Patrick Mahomes said at the end of May that if this is the last go-around of Kelce, it wasn't apparent in how he was going about his business. Travis Kelce, left, and Taylor Swift react as the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers play during the first period in Game Four of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena on June 12, 2025 in Sunrise, Florida. Getty Images 'If it's the last ride, you would never know,' Mahomes told reporters. 'The way he's talking about football, the way he's talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year, he doesn't seem like a guy like it's his last ride, like he's tired of the job.' The Chiefs will start their AFC title defense in Brazil on Sept. 5 against the Chargers.

Micah Parson's strong message to Cowboys as extension talks linger: ‘Cost them more'

Yesterday's price is not today's price for Micah Parsons. The Cowboys' star and annual NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate told All City DLLS that the contract numbers in the handshake agreement that he and owner Jerry Jones previously reached are going to increase because of the delay in finalizing his extension. 'It's going to cost them more,' Parsons said. 3 Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons gestures during practice at NFL football minicamp, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, AP The problem is that pass-rushers T.J. Watt (Steelers) and Trey Hendrickson (Bengals) held out of mandatory minicamp as they seek new contracts. Parsons has seen the terms of the deal that Watt is seeking and it tops what he and Jones discussed, according to All City DLLS. Therefore, Parsons has a new bar to clear. The delay, as Parsons understands it, is in Jones reaching out to agent David Mulugheta to finalize the paperwork. Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase is currently the highest-paid non-quarterback at $40.25 million per year. 3 Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones arrives ahead of an NFL football owners' meeting, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, AP The Cowboys' delayed approach to finalizing extensions last offseason with quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb cost them millions because the top of the market at every position (even running back these days, thanks to Saquon Barkley) only continues to increase with the inflated salary cap. Instead of learning from their negligence, the Cowboys have taken the same tactic with Parsons, who has been extension-eligible since after the 2023 season. 3 Micah Parsons is waiting to get paid. AP Parsons has 52.5 sacks in 63 games and has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons. He participated last week in minicamp and is due $24 million on his fifth-year option. If the extension is not done by the time that the Cowboys report for training camp on July 21, he reportedly will stage a hold-in where he shows up to avoid accumulating daily fines but does not take the field so as to avoid risking injury.
