The Mount Bar and Grill in Ammanford reopens as a bistro
This follows a five-year period where the pub only offered drinks after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pub now serves food from 9am to 3pm. (Image: Paul Griffiths) Owner of The Mount Bar and Grill, Mr Paul Griffiths said: 'We opened 12 years ago, and it was a harsh reality when Mr Boris Johnson announced that we were going into lockdown on Friday, March 20, 2020.
'Before that it was Mother's Day, and we had been fully booked on that weekend. But the announcement forced us to stop selling food and much of our stock went to waste.
'Until recently, we have just been open as a regular pub, selling drinks to our customers. But we feel relieved to be back cooking again. We're open as a bistro now from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday.
'It's a slow build but we have gone back to basics, and we are fighters, so let's see what happens. We have been in touch with the community council, and they are happy we are back open for food.'

According to Mr Griffiths, the local community have been supportive of the pub reopening as a bistro.

(Image: Paul Griffiths) Mr Griffiths continued: 'We were well-known for our food back in the day and one of our original chefs has returned to work for us. We're the only pub in Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen, so we have always been well-supported.
'There was something tugging on our heart strings to start serving food again. Nothing is off the table. However, with retirement looming for both of us, there is no guarantee we will transition into a restaurant and serve food in the evening again.
'However, it's always given me a huge sense of pride to serve outstanding food. Whether it's a family or a couple who visit us, serving them a great meal and getting a back on the back from them before they leave is a great feeling.'

Figures from LINK, the UK's cash machine network, show free-to-use ATMs in Scotland have declined by about 5100 in 2018 to around 3500 today. That means there's about one free cash machine for every 1600 Scottish adults. Campaigners say the decline of bank branches along with ATMs is a 'disaster' for remote and rural communities and vulnerable groups who depend on cash. Ron Delnevo, of the Payment Choice Alliance, said: 'It's a bit scary for Scotland, because once you get out of the big cities, there's not a lot left. It's pathetic.' He used the example of Edzell, near Brechin, which lost its only bank branch, a Bank of Scotland site, in 2016. Delnevo said: 'There's no ATM in Edzell, so if you want cash from an ATM you have to go as far as Brechin. That's a 12-mile round trip. "These people have suffered, in the last ten years, a massive deterioration in the service. "If you go all around Scotland, it's the same thing when you find small places. "In the UK, I think Scotland is worst affected, because taking into account population, we've got a massive geographic area and there are many isolated communities. "They've been badly let down by the banks." The relentless pace of bank branch closures - particularly across remote and rural areas - has coincided with the rise in online banking. The Covid pandemic also saw a drive by firms towards cashless payments. But LINK's own research shows cash remains the most trusted payment method, with 76 per cent of British consumers saying it's important to have the option to pay with hard currency. Douglas Ross, Tory MSP for the Highlands and Islands, said: 'The rapid decline of free-to-use cash machines is deeply worrying, particularly for older Scots and vulnerable people who rely on cash to manage their day-to-day lives. 'Access to cash isn't a luxury, it's a necessity, especially in rural areas and for supporting local businesses that still depend on cash payments. 'We need a clear strategy to safeguard the remaining cash machines across Scotland before it's too late.' It comes as Scottish Labour has today launched a new consultation to tackle 'scandal of financial exclusion' including issues with cash access to help tackle poverty. The party's finance spokesman Michael Marra said: 'Low-income families are often reliant on cash, and the loss of bank branches and ATMs has hit them hardest.' She claimed she had received a poor service and refused to pay £197,000 after they represented her during a case in Malta. An arrest warrant was issued for the entrepreneur after she failed to turn up to court and provide documents for the case. Meyer claimed she was unable to travel from Switzerland as she was suffering with conjunctivitis and didn't have a Covid vaccine. The Navy asked the Cabinet Office Forfeiture Committee to strip the men of their awards and King Charles gave final approval. Ammanford Indian restaurant wins prestigious national award

The award comes after My Indian was named in the Top 100 Asian Restaurants in the United Kingdom, an accolade presented at The House of Lords, Westminster Palace by 2025 Apprentice finalist, Anisa Khan. It's only been around a year since we first opened. 'We are a family-run restaurant, and it makes us feel extra proud to win this award together and be crowned the best Indian Restaurant of the Year. It's a great achievement. 'We are lost for words. Everyone has been highly supportive. We are so chuffed and excited. The support and feedback from the Ammanford community has been outstanding. Staff are so friendly, kind and can't do enough for you. The food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going again!' Another review from last month (June 20250 added: 'Amazing and the family, are lovely and attentive and friendly. 'The food is outstanding, and the service is impeccable. I Thoroughly recommend dining in this establishment you certainly won't be disappointed. 'We were a party of 13, and food was served promptly even though they were busy. Highly recommend trying here, you won't be disappointed, it's fantastic.' My Indian also currently has 87 reviews on Tripadvisor and an average rating of 4.8 stars out of five. Apart from Tripadvisor and Facebook, the South Wales Guardian tried My Indian and wrote a review about the restaurant.
