‘Dhams' set up on basis of faith, says Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said 'dhams' are set up on the basis of religious faith of people and not on the arrogance or ego of any person or government. Majhi was replying to a question here on the fate of his letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the row over naming a temple at Digha as 'Jagannath Dham'.
Without taking Banerjee's name, Majhi said, 'As dhams were established hundreds of years ago based on the faith of people, it cannot be changed by any person or a government. Adi Shankaracharya had set up four 'dhams' for Hindus and Puri's Jagannath Dham is one of them.'
'Yes, I had written a letter (requesting Banerjee to refrain from referring the Jagannath temple in Digha as 'dham') to the West Bengal Chief Minister. But she has not given a reply, but issued a statement which is not acceptable. The matter, which is based on the faith of millions of people, should be respected,' Majhi said.
He said Adi Shankaracharya had established four 'dhams' in different regions of India on the religious point of view for the protection of the Hindu religion. 'Her (Banerjee) statement reflects arrogance and ego. People will give a befitting reply to the person,' Majhi said. Majhi, however, did not give any indication of the Odisha government taking legal recourse over the 'Jagannath Dham' row. Earlier, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan had said that the Odisha government may be forced to take the matter to court if Banerjee did not withdraw the word 'dham' from the Digha Jagannath Temple.

CM inaugurates BBSR- Abu Dhabi direct flight services
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated direct flight services to Abu Dhabi from Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Thursday. An IndiGo flight with 180 passengers on board started its journey to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Bhubaneswar, Majhi said. Besides, 50 tonnes of mangoes produced in Odisha have also been sent to Abu Dhabi, he said. The inauguration took place on a day when the BJP government in the State was celebrating its first anniversary. The flight services were launched under Odisha's Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. The airline will operate flights on Abu Dhabi-Bhubaneswar route on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday every week, an official said. Speaking to mediapersons at the airport, Majhi said, 'Todayis a proud day for the State as the aspiration of the people of Odisha to have direct flight services to Abu Dhabi has been fulfilled.' Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and support from the Central government, the flight services to the capital of the United Arab Emirates have been launched as part of the State's new destination policy, he said. The Chief Minister said the flight services will create an opportunity for Odisha to directly connect with West Asian countries. It will help boost tourism, trade, investment and cultural exchange, he said. The flight services to Visakhapatnam were also restarted from Bhubaneswar on Thursday. 'Apart from infrastructure development, our government is taking steps for industrialisation and strengthening road, air and rail connectivity to enhance the State's GDP,' the Chief Minister said. To strengthen air connectivity, the BJP government has launched flight services to Dehradun, Ghaziabad, Goa, Indore, Kochi, Lucknow and Port Blair from Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai and Raipur from Jharsuguda, he pointed out. With the launch of flight services to major domestic and international destinations, Bhubaneswar is going to be a hub for the aviation sector in the coming days, Majhi added.

Majhi flags off ‘Vikas Vahan'
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday flagged off 'Vikas Vahan' – a special State-wide outreach initiative aimed at making people aware about the achievements and welfare schemes of the BJP-led State government. The programme marks the completion of one year of BJP government in Odisha. 'Vikas Vahan' will travel across all blocks and remote regions of the State, spreading awareness about government schemes, holding public interactions (chaupals) and facilitating on-the-spot registration for flagship programmes like PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Subhadra Yojana. Speaking to mediapersons here at the flag-off event in Bhubaneswar, Majhi described the past year as a period of both challenge and transformation. 'Today (June 12, 2025) marks a significant milestone in the political history of Odisha. Our government has completed one year in the service of the people. This one year was a test of our commitment. Despite facing many social and structural challenges, we have succeeded in providing better services to the people by working with determination. We have fulfilled the promises made to people for the welfare and empowerment of all classes, including women, farmers, tribals, youths and the underprivileged,' said Majhi. The Chief Minister said his government also laid special focus on infrastructure and industrial growth during the last 12 months. The BJP-led State government, without stopping at just signing of MoUs, ensured the completion of ground-breaking industrial projects worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore, making an effort to provide jobs to around one lakh youths, he added. 'With the launch of 'Vikas Vahan', our mission is to carry the message of development from Bhubaneswar to every village. The initiative will reach every block, every remote hamlet and engage citizens directly with our schemes and services,' said Majhi. The Chief Minister further said a magazine titled 'Pragati Prabah' has been released on the occasion to present the work and achievements of the State government during the last year before the people in a transparent manner. 'As we march ahead, our goal is to make Odisha one of the top five economically developed States in the country under the vision of 'Samruddha Odisha' by 2036, the centenary year of Odisha's formation as a separate State,' the Chief Minister added.
