‘He wasn't supposed to be there': Family mourns Air India cabin crew who took emergency duty; dies in crash
THANE: The Badlapur-based family of Deepak Pathak (32), who worked as cabin crew with Air India, said he had not been assigned duty on the ill-fated flight on Thursday. He was on sick leave, and was scheduled for a trip to London on June 14.
However, he got a call from officials citing an emergency on June 11, and left for Ahmedabad.
The accident occurred on June 12. The family said Deepak was a dedicated employee, but had he refused to resume duty that day, he would be alive today.
His two sisters left for Ahmedabad on Thursday. Their DNA samples were taken on Friday to help identify his body. Deepak was a resident of Katrap, Badlapur East, where he lived with his mother, father and his wife of four years.
Deepak's father, Babasaheb, retired from Central Railway 15 years ago, and after retirement, they shifted from Mumbai to Badlapur.
Deepak's cousin, Sachin Khadtale, told TOI he was promoted from crew member to cabin crew six months ago. He mostly worked on international flights and sometimes came home after 10 to 15 days. Recently, when he came, his health was not good.
Deepak's elder sister Shruti said whenever Deepak went on a trip, he used to call his mother and tell her about his trip before taking the flight.

The majority of candidates fell in the 301-550 mark range, with more than 1.26 lakh scoring between 301 and 350, and over 3 lakh between 144 and 200-the minimum qualifying range. UP had the highest number of qualifying candidates at over 1.7 lakh, followed by Maharashtra (over 1.2 lakh) and Rajasthan (over 1.19 lakh). Subhash Baporia, a resident of Basanti Colony, quit his business in 2019 to dedicate himself to serving the poor and destitute through his organisation, 'Nar Sewa Narayan Seva'. What began as a personal mission has now grown into a network of over 1,000 members, with 21 active volunteers and 100 regular donors. "God has given me everything, and I wanted to give back to society. I will continue serving the needy until my last breath," says Baporia, who lives with his wife, three sons, daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. The organisation serves breakfast to 25 people, lunch to 40, and dinner to 50 individuals daily. NEET 2025: Karnataka students bag seven ranks in top 100, four in top 50
1 2 Bengaluru: Seven students from Karnataka made it to the top 100 of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2025, which holds the key to medical and dental seats in the country. Of these, four students cracked the top 50. As many as 1.5 lakh students had registered, and 1.4 lakh appeared for NEET from Karnataka this year; 83,582 students qualified. The numbers were down from 2024, when 1.5 lakh students appeared and 88,887 qualified. Even then, Karnataka is in the top five states with the most NEET aspirants. Uttar Pradesh sent the maximum number of NEET aspirants with 3.4 lakh (1.7 lakh qualified), followed by Maharashtra (2.5 lakh registered; 1.2 lakh qualified), Rajasthan (1.8 lakh registered; 1.1 lakh qualified), and Bihar (1.6 lakh registered; 80,000 qualified). Tamil Nadu had 1.4 lakh registered and 76,000 qualified candidates. Harini Sriram, AIR 72, was among the top 20 female students in the country. Nikhil Sonnad (AIR 17) and Ruchir Gupta (22) made it to the top 20 male candidates. K Prajwal Singh Rathod, NEET rank 263, was top 10 in the Scheduled Caste category.
