
US ice cream giants pledge to ditch artificial dyes by 2027 in health push
US ice cream makers on Monday announced plans to phase out their use of artificial dyes following pressure from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jnr to eliminate unnecessary additives from the American diet.

The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), which includes over 40 top ice cream brands, said its members would stop using petroleum-derived synthetic colourings by the end of 2027.
These chemicals have been linked in studies to conditions including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, and genomic disruption, yet serve no nutritional or functional purpose beyond cosmetic colouring, health advocates have long argued.
'I'm particularly happy to be here today because this is relevant to my favourite food, which is ice cream,' Kennedy said at a press event, lauding the dairy industry for its actions.
'This is a great day for dairy and it's a great day for Make America Healthy Again,' added the IDFA's President and CEO Michael Dykes, referencing Kennedy's MAHA slogan that is a play on President

Andy Jacobs, CEO of Turkey Hill, said many commercial ice cream manufacturers had already phased out artificial colours or were in the process of doing so.

Trump diagnosed with vein disease after being examined for swelling and bruises
The White House said on Thursday that US President Donald Trump is experiencing swelling in his lower legs and bruising on his right hand, after photographs emerged of Trump with swollen ankles and makeup covering the afflicted part of his hand. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, reading a letter from Trump's doctor at a press briefing, said both ailments were benign. His leg swelling is from a 'common' vein condition, and his hand is bruised from shaking so many hands, she told reporters. The disclosure sought to put to rest a raft of internet speculation that the 79-year-old Trump might be suffering from a serious ailment based on the photographic evidence. After Leavitt's briefing, the White House released the letter from a US Navy officer who is Trump's doctor, Sean Barbabella. It said Trump underwent a suite of tests about the issues. Barbabella said an ultrasound on the president's legs 'revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70'. The letter said there was no evidence Trump had contracted deep vein thrombosis, a malady that afflicted former US president Richard Nixon, or arterial disease. Additional exams identified no signs of heart failure, kidney impairment, or a systemic illness, Barbabella said.

Trump says Coca-Cola agrees to use cane sugar for coke in US
US President Donald Trump said in a social media post that Coca-Cola has agreed to use cane sugar in Coke beverages sold in the US. 'I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,' Trump said. 'I'd like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola.' Coca-Cola did not immediately return a message seeking comment. The company already sells a version of Mexico Coke that contains cane sugar. Coke's original soda currently contains high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener made from corn, according to the company's website. The syrup is commonly used in packaged goods because it is more shelf-stable, cheaper and sweeter than regular sugar, according to the Cleveland Health Clinic.
