It's official: Android's best flagship chip is coming much earlier than expected

TL;DR Qualcomm has confirmed that the Snapdragon Summit will take place from September 23-25.
The company always uses this event to announce its next-generation flagship phone processor.
So we're expecting the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 to be announced at this year's event.
Qualcomm usually announces its next-generation flagship Android phone processor at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii each year. We've previously heard murmurings about an earlier launch, and the company has now made it official.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon gave a keynote address at Computex 2025, and one of the presentation slides confirmed (h/t: Notebook Check) that the Snapdragon Summit would take place on September 23-25. Check out the screenshot below.
This means the summit is taking place much earlier than in previous years. The 2024 event took place from 21-23 October, while the 2023 event spanned 24-26 October.
This earlier reveal would allow smartphone manufacturers to launch their next-generation high-end phones sooner. The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro were the first Snapdragon 8 Elite phones and launched on October 23. So don't be surprised if we see the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 phones arriving in late September.
One big question is whether blockbuster flagships like the Galaxy S26 series and OnePlus 15 will launch earlier too. In any event, a previous leak points to the new chip offering a second-generation 3nm TSMC design, second-generation Oryon CPU cores, and an Adreno 840 GPU. The current Snapdragon 8 Elite tops many benchmarks, although we also encountered heating issues when stress-testing a few devices. So here's hoping that the next-generation chip doesn't run as hot.

For value per dollar, the Narwal Freo X Ultra is still my personal favorite robot vacuum and mop combo. It's literally the one I use. Sure, the newer Narwal Freo Z Ultra is better, but it is also significantly more expensive—it costs twice as much right now, to be exact. Also, that's only if you have an Amazon Prime subscription; it's more expensive if you don't! And while the Narwal Freo X Ultra isn't the latest, it's also not really that old, launched in early 2024. That said, the Narwal Freo X Ultra was the last premium offering from the brand, so it is very capable. It features a mighty 8,200Pa suction power. I've seen it pick up metal marbles with ease. Regular debris and dust will be no challenge. Additionally, the tri-laser system is really efficient at avoiding obstacles. I've had no issues with it in this department! One of my favorite things about this model is its mopping system. It's kind of life-changing. The two rotating mops rotate, effectively scrubbing your floors. My previous robot cleaners would just drag a rag across the floor. Not only that, but when the robot returns to the dock, the system will recognize how dirty the mops came back. The robot will continue going back to mop until the floors are actually clean. Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority While we are on the topic of the base, it is super convenient. The dock can store both clean and dirty water, and the app will let you know when it's time to dump or refill it. The detergent goes in the base, too, and it is dispensed automatically. Additionally, the base will wash and dry your mopping pads, keeping funky, humid smells at bay. The hands-off approach is amazing if you want a robot vacuum and mop that will require little maintenance on your end. The tangleless brush means you won't need to manually remove hair from it all the time, which is excellent news for those of us with long hair or pets. And the dust bin can store up to seven weeks of debris! I honestly rarely have to mess with it. I just dump the dirty water and refill the freshwater tank about once a week. Again, this is a brand-new all-time low price for this model. Get it while you can. You will not regret it! It was released as a more affordable alternative to the brand's more expensive 2025 units, but it is actually very similar to the Narwal Freo X Ultra! Of course, the manufacturer made some sacrifices to reach a lower price, but it is actually better in some ways, too. Let's talk about the differences. For starters, the suction power gets upgraded to 8,500Pa, so it's slightly stronger. Something that catches my eye is that the newer front brushes are better at avoiding tangles, making it an even better option for those of us with long hair and pets! The rest of the experience is very similar in terms of features. The dock will wash and dry the mopping pads, obstacle detection is still outstanding, and you get the same seven-week debris collection time. Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority But, where are the downsides? Well, they honestly aren't many, and they aren't that annoying. The Narwal Freo Pro base doesn't have physical controls, so you'll need to rely on the app. That said, I have yet to use the physical controls on mine, so I personally wouldn't mind the lack of physical buttons. Additionally, it doesn't have automatic detergent dispensing. You'll need to throw in a tablet whenever you replace the freshwater tank. It's an extra little step, but definitely not a deal-breaker either. If I were to pay full price for any of these, I would honestly go for the Narwal Freo Pro. Its downsides aren't that bad, and it is actually better in some ways. That said, today's deals put them very close in price. I would probably pay the extra $50 for the Narwal Freo X Ultra, mainly for the automatic detergent dispensing. Again, these are both record-low prices, so go take advantage of these deals while you can! We don't see them sticking around for long. Motorola Razr Ultra vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Comparing Each Flip Phone
Motorola's $1,300 Razr Ultra is making a big splash with its spring debut, featuring the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor along with case materials that include wood or Alcantara fabric. But that high price also stands above the similarly shaped Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 that starts at $1,100, which runs on last year's still-speedy Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. While price is an important factor -- especially in these tariff-conscious times -- both of these flip phones include powerful processors, high-end screens and come in a variety of colors, too. Watch this: Review: We Take the $1,300 Razr Ultra for a Spin 07:30 So let's compare a few of the most important differences between the Razr Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, as it's likely that choosing the best flip phone between these options will come down to a few specific preferences. But the TL;DR that I can tell you right now: If you are looking for a stylish and powerful option that you'll move on from in four years or less, go for the Razr Ultra. However if you want a phone that's still quite powerful and that you can use until it's broken, the Z Flip 6 will likely be the better investment for your money. The Motorola Razr Ultra comes in a variety of finishes including Alcantara (left) and wood (middle). Numi Prasarn/CNET Design Design may be the most immediately obvious way that Motorola's Razr Ultra shows off its $200 price difference from its more affordable rival. The flip-style phone comes in four color options from Pantone, and half of them also use unique case materials. The Mountain Trail variant has a wooden back, while the Scarab edition uses a dark Italian Alcantara fabric that is stitched along with vegan leather. The Razr Ultra also comes in Rio Red and Cabaret, which are red and magenta hues, respectively. While the Z Flip 6 sticks to a more traditional metal body, Samsung does include a rainbow of color options to choose from. The seven hues on Samsung's website are Crafted Black, Peach, White, Yellow, Mint, Silver Shadow and Blue models. The Razr Ultra also has larger screens than the Z Flip 6, including a 4-inch cover screen when folded and a 7-inch interior screen when unfolded. Motorola's Ultra has an obscenely high 165Hz refresh rate on both screens, meaning that both screens will animate quite smoothly. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 while closed. Andrew Lanxon/CNET The Z Flip 6 has a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch interior screen, with the former running at a 60Hz refresh rate and the latter at a smoother 120Hz. While both phones can use nearly any Android app from the cover screen, the Razr Ultra might take the advantage here because its larger screen gives apps more space. However the Z Flip 6 might be easier to use when unfolded exactly because its slightly smaller screen is more comfortable to hold than the Razr Ultra, whose 7-inch screen felt absolutely massive when I tried it out at Motorola's press preview. That said, for some people, the larger screen could be a more desirable option if you plan to use the Ultra for lots of videos and gaming. It's worth noting that at this point, six years after the first Motorola Razr and Galaxy Z Flip came out, clamshell foldables have pretty reliable durability. Both of these phones' successors refined their designs until today, where we can trust that the flexible inner screens of either the new Razr Ultra or Galaxy Z Flip 6 can be counted on to last for years of use. The Razr Ultra includes three 50-megapixel cameras: A wide and ultrawide on its exterior screen and a selfie camera on its interior screen. Numi Prasarn/CNET Cameras The Razr Ultra's higher price is also reflected in the camera specs, with Motorola touting the phone as the first flip-style foldable to include a triple 50-megapixel camera system. But don't expect to see a telephoto camera with that claim, as Motorola is referring to the wide, ultrawide and selfie lenses -- compared to other clamshell foldables, the latter front-facing camera got an upgrade. The Z Flip 6 steps down slightly, with a 50-megapixel wide lens and a 12-megapixel ultrawide. On the inside is a 10-megapixel selfie camera. Megapixels are far from the entire story for photos, though, and we haven't yet had the chance to fully test out the Motorola Razr Ultra's photography chops. However, both Motorola and Samsung tout that artificial intelligence plays a major role in photo processing. The photo was taken on the Z Flip 6, and Galaxy AI was used to add this catlike creature into it. Patrick Holland/CNET Motorola's Moto AI includes a feature called Signature Style, which scans your photos to make suggested color and contrast tweaks based on the context of your photo. This includes details like the lighting conditions along with the subject, such as whether you are taking a photo of a friend or a picture of your dinner. Samsung meanwhile promotes the many ways you can change your photos using Galaxy AI, which include a Sketch to Image feature where you can generate elements such as birds in the sky or decorative elements to walls by doodling them yourself. Moto AI is a mix of Motorola's own AI service as well as integrations from the likes of Meta, Microsoft, Google and others. Numi Prasarn/CNET Software Support and AI While both the Razr Ultra and the Z Flip 6 run on Android 15, there is a major difference between the two in software and security support. Despite the high price, Motorola is currently pledging three years of major software updates and four years of security updates. Meanwhile Samsung is pledging a total of seven years from last summer's launch, which means that if you buy the phone in 2025 you'll still get six years of support from Samsung. Whether this matters to you depends on how often you like to buy a new phone. If you'll almost certainly pine for the next latest and greatest device in four years or less, then the Razr Ultra could still be a purchase that matches up with your needs. However if you want to make sure you can use your phone until you wear it out, then Samsung's longer commitment could stretch your dollar further, barring the possibility of purchasing a battery replacement to help extend the phone's life. The Interpreter mode on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 can assist in multi-lingual conversations. Andrew Lanxon/CNET Both Samsung and Motorola include their own AI suites, dubbed Galaxy AI and Moto AI, respectively. Samsung's take includes a variety of transcription, language translation and writing tools that are intended to provide proactive communication assistance. Meanwhile, Motorola has partnered with Perplexity, Meta's Llama AI and Microsoft Copilot to power features like Next Move, for providing suggestions based on what you are doing on your screen, and Catch Me Up, for summarizing notifications from various texting apps. Both phones also include access to Google's Gemini assistant and Circle to Search. Google Pixel 10 Release Reportedly Set For Aug. 20
Google is set to release the Pixel 10 family of devices on Aug. 20, 2025, according to a report by Android Headlines, in collaboration with OnLeaks, on Monday. Prior to the release, Google will officially reveal the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold at a Made by Google event on Aug.13, according to the report. There's no word on where this event might take place but pre-orders will go live on Aug. 14. Pricing also wasn't given. A representative for Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. While the global smartphone market is dominated heavily by Apple, Samsung and China's Xiaomi, Google is slowly starting to make gains in certain markets. In the U.S., Pixel devices account for 12.9% of market share, surpassing Motorola and OnePlus. Google is also gaining ground in the Canadian market for devices over $700, jumping to 8% market share. Phones like the Pixel 9a, budget-friendly devices that cost under $500, help bring Google's flavor of Android to a wider selection of consumers. Google is also expanding its presence in developing markets like India, where it launched an online store last month. While hardware, platforms and subscriptions only accounted for 12% of Google's revenue last year, it's still a massive $40.3 billion. Granted, it's impossible to know how much of that was from Pixel hardware sales. Still, Google continues to have a presence in mobile hardware to push its vision of an AI-infused Android. Per renders created by OnLeaks, the Pixel 10 will look incredibly similar to the Pixel 9 series, with a wide oval camera bar on the back. Diving into chip details Under the hood, the device will likely be using Google's Tensor G5 chip, which, if rumors are to be believed, will be a major leap in computational performance for Pixel devices. The Tensor G5 will switch manufacturing facilities from Samsung to TSMC in Taiwan, according to an Android Authority report from March. It'll be made on a 3nm process node whereas last year's Tensor G4 was 4nm. Smaller nodes means chipmakers can pack in more transistors. The more transistors a chip has, the more calculations it can handle at lower wattages and temperatures. For the user, this generally equates to more performance at less heat while giving better battery life. Google's Tensor line of chips have lagged behind in terms of processing weight against Qualcomm's Snapdragon, which powers many top-end Samsung devices. When comparing last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 4 against the Tensor G4, Qualcomm beat Google by wide margins, although the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 4 was made on a 3nm node.
