Ever felt that music streaming is just a bit too sterile, that your Spotify playlists lack the satisfying clunk of a real button press or the gentle whir of magnetic tape? Then this modern cassette player from We Are Rewind might just be your new obsession. The Edith WE-001 isn't trying to compete with AirPods or hi-res DAPs. Rather, it's going for totally pure audio fidelity and utterly unfiltered nostalgia.

Yes, it's a cassette player. In 2025. And I love that. While most tech marches relentlessly forward, Edith takes a stylish sidestep, slinging us back to the mixtape era with just enough modern flair. It's got Bluetooth 5.1 for your wireless cans and USB-C charging (because no one actually misses AA batteries). That said, if you're the sort of audiophile who demands your headphones be tethered with a proper cable, there's a 3.5mm jack waiting for you.
The Edith lets you record audio via a mic or 3.5mm line-in. It only supports Type I tapes, so you'll probably need to rummage through your parents' attic – but that's half the fun. Just don't forget your pencil. You'll need it when the tape inevitably unspools, and We Are Rewind gives a nod to this analogue ritual by including one in the box. It's silly – no, perfect.
The design is proper eye candy too. With its brushed aluminium shell and unapologetically chunky buttons, Edith's got more in common with vintage Leica cameras than the plasticky Walkmans of old. Cassette tapes are not about pristine audio. The specs are more about embracing imperfections than chasing sonic purity, with 30Hz to 12.5kHz playback. But audiophiles know there's more to sound than numbers.
You can grab the Edith WE-001 now for $159/£129. It's available directly from the brand or at Rough Trade, Selfridges, FNAC, Turntable Lab, and plenty of indie record shops.

The Glastonbury 2025 app includes this one gamechanging new feature

It's nearly time for Glastonbury 2025 and mobile network Vodafone has revealed its updated Glastonbury phone app (available for iOS and Android) which is obviously a must-have if you're going to the festival. The app includes a few new features, but crucially there's one that's going to be a bit of a gamechanger for groups split across the vast 900 acre site. You're now able to live share your location with your friends, which is a huge improvement. OK, so apps like Apple's FindMy can do that already of course, but speaking from experience this is going to be very useful to be able to do this across friend groups when you split off to see different bands and other acts. And in particular it's going to be handy to work out where people are within a crowd in a situation where 'we're by the bar at the left of the stage' won't quite cut it. Another new feature is step count tracking which will be part of the 'My Highlights' post-Festival wrap, so you'll be able to compare to see who covered the most ground around the site. Vodafone is also making donations to its campaign depending on how many steps festival goers do. As before the app includes a customisable festival lineup so you can create your own schedule of acts to see and you'll get reminders before the various sets begin if you add an artist. There's also an interactive map so you can get to all the stages over the vast site that straddles Worthy Farm. This is now fully searchable, so you can find everything from water and the nearest toilets to different types of food on site. Naturally, you can also search for artists to find out when they're playing as well as browse an A-Z of them, too. And you can toggle between a timeline as well as a list view. Features including Spotify integration, shareable Line-Ups, and map pinning also return to help you make the most of the festival and find your tent/car. In an update, Shared Line-ups will now automatically update, so your friends will see the latest version. You can also get directions to Vodafone's Connect and Charge tent so you can keep your device juiced up. Speaking of power, Vodafone also has a plan there, too – you can pay £20 (plus £10 deposit) for a battery pack that you can exchange daily for a new one at three locations – the Connect and Charge tent in the Leftfield market as well as opposite San Remo and in the Worthy View Campsite. Vodafone says last year's version of the app saw 226,215 total downloads. 88.9% of downloads were from festival-goers attending Worthy Farm, while 11.1% were from people viewing at home. Data consumption at the festival hit over 225 terabytes last year.

This retro-styled Bluetooth boombox makes me want to cancel my streaming subscription

Miss the days of shoving a cassette into a chunky boombox, pressing play, and hearing the sound crackle to life rather than scrolling through music streaming playlists? Then this modern take on the boombox from We Are Rewind might just be your new obsession. The GB-001 is a retro-styled boombox that marries the old with the new. That's not just in the design, but also in functionality with support for both Bluetooth and cassettes. Read more: Best cassette players and tape players in 2025 for a retro audio fix It's a full-blown stereo powerhouse, decked out with Bluetooth 5.4, a rechargeable battery, and a cassette deck that takes itself quite seriously. This boombox plays and records tapes, does Dolby B-style noise reduction, and makes me want to cancel my Apple Music subscription. Of course, it's also fully equipped for the modern world. Tap the Bluetooth pairing button to connect for wireless audio, or there's a 3.5mm jack for everything else. What's seriously impressive is just how far We Are Rewind has gone with the tech under boombox's retro hood. We're talking 104 watts of stereo output, with left and right woofers and tweeters that promise a full-spectrum audio experience. There's dynamic power control to rein in distortion, EQ tweaking knobs, and even a spatial audio mode. The GB-001 even comes with functional VU meters – gloriously backlit ones, at that. Throw in a microphone input with adjustable gain and a feature that lets it double as a guitar amp, and this thing is in retro territory. It even supports rap battles if you've got a spare wireless mic or two lying about. The GB-001 boombox is available to order now directly from We Are Rewind. It'll set you back £379/€449.

Android Auto gets a huge free voice control upgrade

Android Auto is getting smarter – and more hands-free – thanks to a major free upgrade powered by Google's AI assistant, Gemini. Rolling out soon, the update will let drivers do a lot more with just their voice, from sending smarter messages to digging up info buried in Gmail – all without touching the screen or remembering clunky commands. Gemini is Google's next-gen AI assistant; it's already available on some of the best phones, and it's now coming to cars that support Android Auto, with built-in models to follow later this year. Once active, it goes far beyond transcribing your words. You can speak naturally – 'message Joe in Spanish' – and Gemini will remember to translate future messages automatically. You can also fine-tune what you've said before sending, or have it translated into over 40 languages. Feeling peckish mid-road trip? Ask Gemini to 'find good taco places along the way,' then follow up with 'what do the reviews say?' or 'is it kid-friendly?' The assistant ties into Google Maps, Spotify, YouTube Music and even Gmail to help dig up info fast, all while you keep your eyes on the road. There's also Gemini Live – a more conversational mode. Say 'Hey Google, let's talk' and you can use it to brainstorm ideas, prep for meetings, or ask for advice while you drive. For example, 'How do I ask my boss for a promotion?' followed by 'When's the best time of day to bring it up?' This upgrade is part of a wider push to make Google's car software more useful and human. Gemini will be supported on over 250 million Android Auto–enabled vehicles and more than 50 car models with Google built-in, including upcoming launches like the Lincoln Nautilus, Renault R5 and Honda Passport. Google's also adding more third-party apps, including games and video (for parked downtime only), and expanding digital car key support to more vehicles from Audi, Volvo and Polestar. More updates will be shown off at Google I/O next week – I can't wait. Liked this? I got a behind-the-scenes look at Lego's fully drivable, life-sized F1 car collection
